Welcome to TeamLiquid. This thread will help you get the most out of your stay. Please read it, and if you have any questions, PM a moderator.
Introduction
TeamLiquid is a private site created in 2002 by Liquid`Nazgul and Liquid`Meat. Since then, it has grown to become the premiere English BroodWar site on the internet. There is a great deal of information on this site, and more is always being added by a core of valuable members. We have more than 20,000 people visit on a daily basis, and more than 45,000 registered users.
Rules and Guidelines
Imagine your friend invites you to somebody's house for dinner. You would probably be polite right? Then, once you got to know people you relax a little bit. TeamLiquid is just like that. If you are new, show respect, be polite, and have something to contribute. There are many people here who have been visiting this house for a long time. Respect that too. If you have been to dinner before, show the new person around and help make them comfortable.
People who break these rules are removed from the site, much like an unruly house guest.
You should start at the top on this site. From left to right, the top menu bar will give you everything you need:
News - The news page features news from the Korean progaming world. Updates on tournaments, progaming gossip, interviews, and site updates are all here. Some worthy user created threads are also promoted to the featured threads section.
Forum - This is the meat of TeamLiquid. Clicking the Forum button at the top of the page will bring you to an index. There is a very active forum divided into many sections. There are also shortcuts to each section on the left.
If you wish to post here, keep the rules in mind. Before you create a new thread, search to see if your question has been answered. If you cant find anything, make sure your new thread contains lots of information and something to generate dicussion. Ensure that your title includes a tag such as [Help], [R] (for request), [Vid] for video, etc. Poor threads will be locked.
Please do not spoil results of tournaments, that is a simple way to be banned. We have anti-spoiler BB code (the [s] button), use that instead.
Any material not safe for work should be labelled as such. Posting tubgirl will get you banned.
VODs - Using bittorrent technology, it is now possible to watch all games played on Korean television. If you use this service, please say a thank you to the people who spend their time and money uploading VODs. Also, this is a community, so please make sure you continue to upload after you are finished. This will allow the original uploaders to move on to the next day's games.
Files uploaded to the tracker will automatically bump this thread.
Liquibet, Blogs, Replays, Articles - Liquibet is our own progaming betting league. Show your knowledge by picking the winners, and if you come out on top you get a cool icon.
Each user can create their own blog on TeamLiquid. Each blog entry is rated by other members, and the highest ranks blogs appear first on the Blogs page. To start yours, go to the Blogs page and click 'Create Blog'. Bloggers who bring something unique to TeamLiquid typically get the highest ratings and the most views.
Good replays are uploaded by staff in the replay section. You can comment and discuss the games there too.
The Articles section is a massive storehouse for the history of progaming. If you are new to the scene, this is the place for you to go and get the answers to your questions. There are also several FAQ's and quality interviews there.
My TL.net - This is your personal space on TL. Customize your profile, set various options, and send private messages from here.
Calendar - The calendar features the dates of upcoming live events. It is possible to watch these events live, and discuss them in real time on the forum. If you have a BW event, PM a staff member and they can add it to the calendar.
TLPD - The TeamLiquid Progaming Database is exactly what it sounds like: a comprehensive database containing every progamer and every official game played to date. You can find statistics for every player, every league, and every map, in addition to embedded VODs of over 2500 games.
Staff
There are numerous people who work on TeamLiquid. People with blue lettered names work on news and other special features. People with red lettered names are moderators who keep the board clean. People with black lettered names... you'll find out.
These people have all shown themselves to be excellent at what they do, and deserve respect for helping this site continue to prosper. If you are having trouble or have questions, send a private message to a moderator, and they will be glad to help you.
Have fun
By using the top menu bar, and respecting a few simple rules, you will be able to enjoy one of the best forums on the internet. Feel free to poke around, as there are many features not yet mentioned.
Before making an inquiry, please make an effort to see if you question has been answered before in the past. The best way is to use the search function, which you can find in the right side on the screen, half way down. By default it searches for thread titles, but you have the option of searching for thread content, along with other search criteria. If you want to know what kind of career Garimto has had in the past, a simple search for "Garimto" or perhaps his korean name of "Kim Dong Soo" will yield results for your viewing pleasure. (careful not to bump old threads unless necessary though!).
Another thing to keep in mind, is that the search function does indeed accomodate string searches such as "zealot rush" or "unit control".
Checking the "sort results by forum" can be very useful if you are looking for results in the broodwar section, but want to keep an eye for other threads that may have been somewhat misplaced.
Along the same lines, it is often worthwhile to check the first page of the appropriate section of interest. If making a thread about that Savior game that happened 2 days ago, just check the thread list in the broodwar and tournament sections beforehand. Maybe there's already a thread about the very topic you wanted to discuss. If not, go ahead and make the thread under the correct subforum, making sure to include ample information that will fuel the discussion that will ensue therafter.
Edit: GOOGLE SEARCHING
You may notice that next to the "search" button is one that reads "google". This is a nifty feature where a google search is employed on the website's threads, enabling a potentially more powerful results list. However, it doesn't allow for the kind of filtering that the custom search function allows (such as subforum limitations).
Its most striking advantage is the ability to use words of 3 or fewer letters as the search criteria. "zvz" for instance, is finally searchable by using google search. However, note that this returns hits on both post content and thread title, with no subforum filter. Might take a bit of sorting through the results to find what you're looking for.

Unfortunately the search function does not handle 3 letter words such as pvp, pvz, OSL, MSL, and other potentially useful keywords. The reason for this is server resource limitations. However, for OSL/MSL, sometimes using the sponsor name such as "uzoo" or "shinhan" can yield good results. Also, the articles section has some nice summary threads on league results.
Another thing to keep in mind, is that the search function does indeed accomodate string searches such as "zealot rush" or "unit control". However, it cannot handle strings that contain word lengths of 3 or below, such as "pvp help".

I came up with this good idea, and I've been trying to use it whenever possible. I use the matchups just like a tag, ex: [PvP] or [PvZ]. That way, when a user goes to search, they can search for the string "[PvP]" and yield results, opposed to searching "PvP" and getting nothing back. Perhaps this is something we could start doing more often. You can even use it with things like [OSL] [MSL] [RWA] [FPR] etc etc
[edit] for some reason I always thought this worked but I guess it doesn't...? Or at least, it doesn't right now. I'd been including those tags anyway to help my threads stick out, but perhaps such a feature could be implemented into the search engine to allow us to search using [] tags.
Oh, and it may also be useful to mention the google search when looking for three letter strings. I'm surprised this isn't used more often, actually.

ah nesix, i've read about boht the [] and google searches but I personally never got around to using them. If you can write a brief description on especially how the google search helps complement the regular search, it'd be great

I must be blind, I've never noticed that the mods all had red-lettered names. I noticed the blue ones though and I guess I just mentally believed all the staff to be blue.
Oh, so that's how you use TeamLiquid. I've been doing it all wrong!
Haji: For the search, 3-letter words work in quotes as long as there's at least one 4+ letter word. You just picked a bad example: for whatever reason "help" is filtered out. "pvp build" works fine.
Mani: I think the bit on the articles should be more prominent. Maybe in bold.. and hammered to their foreheads. Or maybe just mention that there's an interview with SlayerS_FuckinG_`BoxeR` in there.

It's so simple! All you have to do is type the thing you're looking for in the search bar here at tl.net(can be literally anything, even just a space!), and instead of pressing enter or clicking Search, you just press Google. That brings up a page at teamliquid.net similar to the regular search function page, except it uses google to search and therefore searching PvP returns relevant results! It's rediculously easy (and perhaps even easier because you don't have to flip between title/content/both), and will return a search for literally any string, no matter the length. And what's even better is that you never even need to leave the Teamliquid.net website to use it!
i would like to add: click the adds once in a while, i'm guessing they are not for show (and maybe you could say something about Closed threads and Webside feedback topics)

FUCK YO SITE NIGGA!
Please don't use the N word.
Nigga (Especially in that context) isnt bad in most circles. Using "Nigger" is bad imo (done all the time on this site). So if that really offends you, gl with getting people to understand here.
I realized another useful way to search is making Google perform their search only on TL's domain. That way you can search the site using all of Google's nifty tricks that make searches more efficient and specific--finding exact phrases for example. Unfortunately, these can't be used with TL's Google search function so you'll have to type it on browser's Google search bar or from google.com.
For example, here are the results of a Google search for a specific phrase:
The text within the parentheses is the exact phrase that is being searched for and TL's domain follows site:
Here's an example of trying to use the phrase specific search using TL's Google search function:
1. The person whose username is written in the secret forum's "Ban Thread" will definitely be banned. 2. If no reason to ban is stated in the same post, the person will be banned for no apparent reason within 40 seconds of writing the username. 3. If you write a reason to ban a person, you have 6m40s to do so before the person is banned. 4. Those who post on TL.net will be able to see and communicate with the Gods of Ban (like Rekrul).

Cant make new topic so going to post it here. Sorry about this.
I am trying to play Starcraft with acouple of my friends through Hamachi and we can ping each other in Hamachi and see each other but when someone host a game we cant see that. We all got same verison. The other 2 guys im trying to play with also play C&C3 on Hamachi fine just cant seem to play SC on it. Any help would me nice, this was the only place I though might beable to help.
Thank you for your time and sorry I posted off topic in this one
This is a perfect example of a good first post at TeamLiquid, to all those who complain we always just say what we don't want to see, this is how you make a request when you're new here.
Humble, kind and aware that it is offtopic.
I don't have a solution though, never tried hamachi Try the feedback forum or use the search function, maybe this question was already answered before.
Hmm.. I believe up to a certain version hamachi no longer works with SC. There are people around here who know which I think I remember reading it in someones profile.Try the organizer of the Hamachi Starleague whoever that is.
yes that was true for a while, but the latest version of hamachi is compatible with bw, i used it just yesterday. dload the very latest version, and it'll work.

Here are the rules of "how to get banned by TL sissies":
1. Make a thread, point out any faults about TL.net, which is the worst site ever.
2. As TL lovers start flaming you, use logic to counter their arguments.
3. Once the TL lovers can't reason with you any longer (because they're all retarded and brain-damaged), they will ban you because they're afraid to hear anyone unveil their weaknesses and be unable to defend themselves.
4. Once you're banned, feel free to laugh at those newbs as they post 10 pages worth of nonsense after your final post.
5. Conclusion: TL is full of newbs and retards who can't reason but only flame and ban people so that their ugliness is not revealed to an extent where the entire community has to commit suicide.

It's funny how you claim to hate TL and the community so much, yet you are still here. You obviously love it, and couldn't get over the fact that you were banned.
One more thing though: Why register to a site that you dislike and declare publicly that you hate it and the community. Besides being a totally waste of time, it only proves you're under the intellect of a 10 year old.
Lmao the rules I mentioned above applied perfectly. Thank you for your cooperation. I guess it's my ban time so have fun with your shitty site when I'm gone.
Hi all, im here at may first post, i watch Star games from over 3 years on Teamliquid and using streams and i decided today to show my face as a member of this comunity. This is indeed one of my favorite sites and I visit it everyday. I try to post as much as I can on all topics I know of and watch all cool vods from this site. But I just have one concern. Maybe its just me, or maybe some of you guys haven't noticed but there are SOME (not all though, most are courteous), few moderators who "abuse" their power. Like putting down someone's post about one thing that's supposedly against the rules, but letting through other posts that do the same. And not hearing out the explanation of the person who violated one of the rules. I don't know what the deal is about them, maybe its racism, maybe its favoritism, maybe its a gay thing or whatever, I just wish there would be a small group of "overseers" to facilitate the actions of the many moderators of this beloved site. For the sake of us noobs, for the sake of the "slow", for the sake of those who can't understand that much, for the sake of everyone's enjoyment, for the sake of inviting more people in our forums while keeping the old, for the sake of Starcraft - let's all do our part in keeping it real guys!!!

Long live Team Liquid!!!!
Racism on a forum where we are represented solely by our words? Seems unlikely. Gay thing? I have no idea what you meant by that. Favouritism, sure, if one guy has impressed mods by his quality posts and another has not then I see no problem with the mods giving the former more lenience than the latter. Lenience towards good posters keeps the forum full of good posters without making the rules a joke.
To be honest I have no idea what you're talking about. I don't know which mods you feel are abusing their powers and I have no idea why you think there is no accountability. If you dispute a moderators action pm them and ask for an explanation. As long as you're courteous you will be treated with respect. If necessary pm Manifesto, he's the daddy of the forum. There is however no need for overseers to police the mods as the screening process to become a mod is so strict that the dedication of the mods to making tl a quality forum is beyond question.
If you seriously have a problem then just name the moderators and what you think they did that was inappropriate. Doing so will not get you banned. I had a long argument with Mani about the ban of a long time poster (Chibi) and was treated with respect, despite our disagreement. On an unrelated note, what's up with the speech? "For the sake of Starcraft" "Let's all do our part" etc... Just say what you mean.

Install something to view the stream, the easiest would be the VLC.
Then just wait for instructions to be posted when the next attack is here, it is very easy to follow.

I don't know if the black lettered names thing really is as significant now. I mean, rek is awesome but if I remember right he still hasn't gotten his banning privileges back yet?
And lol, why don't the quote tags work for that guy. He must have messed something up somewhere.

Now, people may ask why do i even bother.. Its true, i only need this page to see the games that will get played, but still, sometimes i can help with reporting the match so i decided to make an account.. Now i dont say that i am an angel, but i do expect that if i get banned, ( i never ever got banned on any forum bdw ), i get a proper explanation why, not this garbage.. I got no response to my mail as well, which is lame..
You cant just go and PERM ban people.. You give a reason, warnings etc, or what is the point.. You cant ban people because they disagree with you, that is the point of the forum. If you are an admin, you specialy need to be an example for others, not offending and spamming like fakeSteve is doing, specialy not offending the progamers that this page is dedicated to talk about..
I would like to have my ban removed, because i dont like to use multiple accounts, i rather dont have an account at all..
But if this is the way admins are running things here, then just say it, and i wont bother to make an account or post anymore.. And you can have this "kid" abusing his powers because he feels strong behind the computer.

You cant send a message, when you are banned.. I have trouble because people admins are banning people without any reason.. You reply, and because they dont like your reply, they ban you..

His topic contains multiple offends , but because he is an admin, its ok. You reply to his topic, please stop using this kind of words, and u get banned? He banned multiple people with the reason GARBAGE DAY..

Seriously, you take the reasons they post up there as serious reasons? They do have reasons that are serious and a logical person usually would agree with. Majority of people that get banned are stupid posters and are usually the "'kid' abusing his powers because he feels strong behind the computer." If you look at the last few post the person banned made before being banned you should be able to put 2 and 2 together. There are also people that are banned by request something I'll probably request when school starts up for me. The reasons behind shit reasons like GARBAGE DAY is just them having fun with banning idiots. I know several people are banned for abusive use of the pm system not just posting. The Admins are competent people and if you can't see that then you might as well not have made your post here; because you seek no understanding you're just pissed. Anyways do you give warning to people that post like this http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/postmessage.php?quote=17&topic_id=75100 I can see where the ban lies its just you that can't.

i get sceptic that he is a competent person.. Giving a reason is the first thing you should do ,and usually you warn first, or ban for few days or a week, not just perm ban..

You can't tell a joke from just being mean can you?
Lol also you got banned by fakesteve either you really suck at sarcasm or you did something bad. Hes one of the nicer admins when it comes to banning.

You can't create new topics with a newly made user. I don't remember how long it takes to be able to.
To create a thread:
Click on the forum you want to create the thread in. For general, click general here on the left (<--) and you should see a link at the top of the page to create a new topic.

Don't feel too stupid, I had that problem for a long time, I could only find the Create blog one. Or maybe I just wasn't here long enough to create a different type of thread at the time. Either way, good question.
^ Since you've been around since November, you can make threads. So go to a specific forum (General, for example), and above Forum Index, there's a red folder icon thingy that says New Topic/Post Topic or something.

It changes automatically. It starts out 250, but I'm wondering why you still have the probe... I'd think you'd have a zealot, lol. The rest are for you to find out. Shh, it's a secret!
Cuz it's not just # of posts. It does change automatically when you qualify. e: and the formulas aren't public fyi. Or at least I don't think they are.
You have to be a member for a specific amount of time before you can up your icon. Once you've hit the time minimum as well as the amount of posts, you'll get your new icon.
