Joining the server doesn't work for me. When I follow the link and then let the browser launch the discord client, the TL server still doesn't show up in my server list.
Is there a link that I can enter when I manually want to join the server inside the client? This is the prompt:
"Enter an Instant Invite below to join an existing server. The invite will look something like these:

I totally do not get the system of the text channels.
I am in #welcome by default. I want to join an HS channel. I type !add hs to get into? Is this like /join #chatname?
Anyway, the only change i get is that i get the welcome message again. So there is no way for me to join a hs specific channel? What is this adding of games all about?

'add hs' should add a hs channel to the sidebar on the left. If you're having trouble message one of the blue or red names on the channel and we'll try assist you.

One issue I have is there doesn't seem to be any text chat linked to the voice channel you're in.
We often have people without mics who (in teamspeak) would just type while everyone else would talk. Or we'd be discussing something and want to share links/type something out. Is there any way to type to the group in your voice channel?

not at the moment, no.
This is pretty much the biggest concern I have with discord at the moment.

Why didn't you guys merge the /r/liquidlegends discord with the actual one?
Most of the LL community feels rather disappointed that most of the players/staff chose a random reddit community over the actual TL site about League.

Half of what TS was used for was off topic stuff like board games/random math/coding problems/hanging out, and all that's kind of impossible if we can't use text :<

Very simple actually. Not everyone who uses liquidlegends.net is a Liquid fan -- that's okay and in fact we want as broad of an appeal as possible. But a consequence is that the /r/liquidlegends discord is more tailored towards fans of Liquid (esp. the league team) rather than the wider TL community. Merging the servers wasn't an option for this reason. The TeamLiquid.net servers are for the TL network which isn't contingent on being a fan of the progaming team.

Yea I'm pretty sure 99% of the people in that discord don't even have accounts on the TL websites. I don't really want to interact with them.
With that being said it would be cool if players/coaches were also supporting the TL community discord, but they aren't obligated to do that

I'm really enjoying the discord server. I dont make much use of the pick up games that happen there, but they do happen. Pretty fun to watch when people stream them.

My biggest concern with Discord and why I won't use it:
Hosting.
I can't host my own Discord server, it always runs on their architecture. When they have problems, and eventually they will, then, well, sucks, nothing can be done but wait. My TS server runs on my own root server and if it has problems, I can analyze and fix them immediately on my own. Add to it the whole privacy concerns of a centralized architecture - yeah, I know, encryption, probably decrypted on the server and stored in plain text in a log file - and Discord becomes unattractive.
Since I've also read that they don't ever want to provide a way to host your own server, I just don't see it as a long-term viable alternative to TS. It's just another "Teamspeak-killer", just like so many (Ventrillo, Mumble, RaidCall, ...) before, better in some areas but missing one or more critical features that prevent it from replacing TS.
TS is not a good program, but it's hard to replace it if you don't replace all of it, and after 14 years of development that "all" is quite a lot.

I've been using discord for a while now and I always have issues with people cutting out at the end of their sentences. Probably has something to do with their auto-detect voice thing. Haven't seen any threads about people having similar problems. Love the app otherwise.

I think this has been brought up but the mafia people need our own game chat server so we can record our votes when we play voice mafia.

And how exactly would you judge that? My Discord name isn't the same as my TL name as i have not always used the same name across every community for the last 5 years since making the TL account.
I'm fairly new to discord but not aware of any setting that would let me set different names on a channel by channel basis.

I actually love Discord so much. Been using it for a while with a few other communities and it's so handy, so long as people stay active. When they finally get around to adding overlays, I'm gonna go nuts.

Mumble won me over in that long period where TS2 was showing its age and TS3 was vapourware. Both seem to have the same featureset and even use most of the same technologies so I don't see much point switching back, especially with the server being completely unrestricted with Mumble.
I agree with your other points though, I just think Mumble and TS3 need their text chat systems updated a bit. Maybe I'll feel better about Discord when they actually prove they have a working business model and confidence their servers won't dissappear overnight.

I think he meant the /r/LiquidLegends discord, which is really mostly Curse fans.

Only thing I worry about Discord is when it decides to introduce premium features and how bloatworthy it can get. If I'm not mistaken the client is actually a webbrowser that uses a lot more resources than my Mumble and IRC client.
I like the fact TL Discord is the only Discord I can talk in without meme images doe.

The voice detection and in general just speaking to eachother doesn't seem to work properly for a sizeable number of people. Is there maybe a way we could donate to keep the TS server up and running?

So the discord voice server has been shitting the bed all evening, randomly disconnecting me without any warning or alert, and not letting me reconnect...
Is this confirmed a one time thing? Because if this is going to happen every now and then discord is kind of useless

Discord seems to be having server stability issues every now and then; what I've been doing is moving the location of the server, rotating from EU West through US West whenever an issue happens.
I'm not sure there's anything we can do on our end since we don't own or maintain the server space in any way.

While that sucks, I can't help having a bit of Schadenfreude there.
I've argued against Discord for the exact reason that you can't self-host and so are reliant on their infrastructure with no way to fix problems, but people keep jumping on the "Discord is amazing" bandwagon.

When i join a voice channel i am always suppressed (cant speak) only happens on the TL server. Any help pm admins about it and haven't responded.

For my experience, I have found discord working mostly okay (not just TL but multiple servers) but in the last week it's been particularly poor.

I was in Discord back when it was new and just barely out of alpha, and it was so small I got to look at their finances. One way or another they will have to introduce some form of income, because they're losing a lot of money from this product.

Yes. Are you in the registration channel? If you type "add general" it should put you in the general section (which includes sports, community-general, mafia, etc.) Could also do "add all" if you want everything
