Hey guys, I know theres been countless threads about this but I just want to share my experiences. I actually woke up from one now, and want to share it when it's fresh in my head.
I only had 3 experiences total, and they were all in this year; 2 in January, and one just now. All of them started off with hearing a high pitch sound. I've noticed that it happens right after I realize it's a dream. In fact, I didn't have a lucid dream for a really really long time. I did a lot of research beforehand so I "tried" not to get freaked out, but it gets me everytime.
My first experience was the scariest. I heard the high-pitched noise as I "woke up" from my dream. I tried to move my left arm but it wouldn't move at all. I thought I fell asleep on my arm (cuts off blood circulation so I can't move it) but when I tried to move my right one, I knew that I was in sleep paralysis. I tried to move with all my energy and it actually felt like I was moving, but I realized that i wasn't even budging. I even tried to yell, I can hear my voice (in my head i guess) but I knew no one else could hear. I remember reading about seeing stuff and hallucinating so I just started to look around, but I saw nothing and was very relived. Then all of a sudden it felt like my head and whole body was twisting to the left, the high pitched sound got louder, and I heard someone whispering in my ear in gibberish which freaked the hell out of me. Then I really woke up and everything was okay.
My second time wasn't too bad. Again, it started with the high pitched sound and realized I was in sleep paralysis. At first I was going crazy trying to make myself move again, but didn't happen. I tried to breathe really loudly, and I heard myself but I'm not sure if I was actually doing it. After a few seconds, I just gave up and had no intention to move. For some weird reason, it felt so relaxing... then a few seconds after that, I just woke up.
The experience I just had now was different... I got it again hearing the highpitched noise and looked around. I saw the ceiling and it seemed like it was moving and I saw black spots everywhere. I had a feeling I was going to see something so I closed my eyes (if it wasn't already closed). That feeling described earlier where my felt like it was twisting, it was going crazy. I felt like I was being pulled or twisted by something. Then I heard someone whistling...I don't know if it was part of this paralysis or if it was actaully someone outside because I had my window open so I'm not exactly sure. After I heard the whistling, it scared the hell out of me. I was going crazy trying to get out of it, but unlucky, it took a while before I woke up. I woke up and now I'm here writing this thread.
It seems like I have my eyes open because I can see exactly as I would while I'm awake but are they open? or is it all part of my memory?
P.S. Is there a way to get out of it without having to wait?

Shit that's some very weird/interesting experiences man. Do those paralysis always last for only a few sec? Or do you totally have no notion of time while experiencing one?

Well, I'm too busy being freaked out by everything so I don't know lol. Realistically, I think it's about a minute, but it feels a lot longer tho.

If happens to me quite often but frequency varies a lot. Sometimes I don't experience this for a few months, but when I do it can be a few times in a very short period. Last time was in December, I was coming back from a party a bit wasted, and went to bed in the early morning. I woke up in that fashion about 3 times before I really fell asleep. It's quite unpleasing and scary at first but I got used to it over the years. I have absolutely no idea what causes it.

damn, although it probably sucks for you who have it all the time, I'd really like to experience it sometime:p sounds fascinating.. maybe it's just me and my grotesqueness(if that's a word)

When I have this, I'm usually sleeping on my stomach freaks me out because I'm afraid I cant breathe properly, only thing I can still control is breathe through my nose
I can only wake up by hearing a 'real' sound or I just close my eyes (not sure if they're open in the first place) and try to go back to sleep

so this isnt lucid dreaming huh? i read a lot about lucid dreaming tho, i want to experience it and all but i hear its hard =P

Reminds me a bit of something that used to happen to me occasionally: I'd think I woke up and be looking around my room, but when I closed my eyes I could still see my room. I guess it was just a little aardvark recurring dream. Didn't really freak me out, just confused me a bit until I was fully up.

i love when this happens to me.

lucid dreaming must rock, i mean going to sleep is boring enough but to be able to do watever in a dream sweet!

hmmm somewhat related.
probably for the last week or so, my sleep schedule has been completely fucked. one night ill feel dead ass tired and go to bed before 11. the next night ill be up til 2-3 am. however, no matter when i sleep, ive been finding myself waking up every 45 minutes to an hour and not being able to fall back asleep for a few minutes. and every time i have fucking crazy dreams. its like i dont get sound sleep, im always dreaming.
last nite one of them was me walking around in my neighborhood. i met some little girl who was supposed to be this child with super natural powers, she could sense when something bad was gonna happen. im walking down my street and all the sudden she says run...and a fucking car comes crashign into where i was standing. then 3 more. and other cars start blowing up. then theres helicopters in the air shooting at me and fucking the armys after me.
its been only a week, so im hoping it will pass. my friend offered to toss me some valium xannys or sleeping pills if i want. if it keeps happening ima go to the dr., but in the mean time, WTF?

Crazy stuff yo. I woke up the other day with the EXACT same thing. My arms felt like they were asleep and I was trying to lift my head or open my eyes, but they kept just fluttering - it was so odd because I could see through them a little. I heard gibberish and voices just like you did and it terrified me so much that I even tried to cry out, "Oh God," which ended up being a strangled sound in my throat.
When I stopped struggling I even "felt" myself float up from my body - like when you watch a movie and someone dies, you see their soul sit up right out of their body. It was like that. I was so terrified that I tried "reaching" out to pull myself back into my body, then stopped struggling. I remember thinking: "I'm having a lucid dream!"
All of a sudden I opened my eyes - in fact, they just shot open, and I sat up.
Definitely weird shit yo.

P.S. Is there a way to get out of it without having to wait? You could in fact have your eyes open, because at that point in your brain's function, it is open to hallucinations (auditory, visual, etc.). Its very similar to lucid dreaming. I have never had sleep paralysis, but I have read you can train yourself to turn them into a more pleasant dream (in the same way to would normally lucid dreaming), so I'd try that if it happens again.

everyone on this site has this fucking sleep paralysis but me. im kind of jealous.

happemd to me like once a year, but quiet scarry since you are awake but cannot move at all. But I don't have to wait (i never tried) i just move with all force, still nothing happens, but this brings up slight panic and adrenaline and that allows me to move again.
|
when I'm awake like I am now, I kind of look forward to it because I want to experiment with it, but while it happens, I want to get out of it asap. Nullmind pm'ed me saying that trying to move my toes like how i would clench my fist will get me out of it faster, so the next time i'll try that.

i got sleep paralysis once (btw, i didnt even know i slept, and this all happened until the morning when i woke up)
i was sleeping over this hyungs house, and while watching some people play some ps2 game, i fell asleep. in my sleep before the pressure thing happened, i dreamt that the hyung was telling me about something in the revelations book of the bible, to be careful of satan or something like that. after this, i fell asleep in my dream and suddenly i heard this deep voice (it pretty much sounded like diablo's voice when you enter his place to fight him) and the pressure on the chest started. it was pretty much like everyone else's here, (like i couldnt get up, tried really hard to resist and open eyes). i kind of did open one of my eyes, and im sure i saw some hooded thing with red eyes. Then ninjas, thousands of them jk
the lucid dream before the paralysis was so real to me that i was like in denial that it never happened in real life
i wasnt even into d2 -_-;;

i wish i had cool dreams
my dreams are mostly me being something i was doing recently or something random like that
One time I was harry potter, playing pool with my wand ( was reading the book night before )

When i find myself in those type of situations i just pray to god and wake up

I dont remember or think this is sleep paralysis, but one time i was dreaming i was in my mom's old van. when the phone rang(there is not a phone in the van... dont know why it was there in the dream) all of the sudden i hear u will die in seven days.... WTF. and the weirdest part is that i feel sum1 grabbing my head and neck, i try to struggle... but i couldnt move, i woke up SCARED TO DEATH, yes the ring scared the shit out of me...... i was like 11 when i watched it and im only 13 now T.T.

well in Asian cultures they believe that a ghost or spirit is sititng on you. I used to believe that as well, until I did some research...

Who says its a bad situation, its just "different".
|
It'd be lame having to set it up every night since it doesn't happen often but maybe try to record yourself sleeping? You'd hear and see if you actually makes sounds or move around.
|
But 3 times in one year... that's pretty unusual isn't it? Have you been doing something off schedual? Sleeping in late or w/e?
|
i have been wide awake while asleep now several times if that makes sense
|
i have very lucid dreams and paralysis very often usually when im in a state of paralysis i go through Excruciating pain.. its something that i cant possibly describe in words.. but i get hit with waves of "noise".. Very painful noise and they hit me in waves each one longer and more intense then the last untill i cant take it anymore and snap out.. it kinda feels like that noise you hear in ur head from ur pulse or your blood pressure whenever your heart beats but its so much louder and 1000x more intense.
|
That's weird, I've had a sleep paralysis similar to yours except it doesn't get to the part about the head and body twisting to the left. And its been years since I've had that happen to me. The same goes for lucid dreams =(. I remember one of my lucid dreams where I was in a supermarket with lovely females shopping for groceries. I would just go up to one of them and start doing things that you can only do in dreams > . Now whenever I try to control myself in a dream I feel like my heartbeat starts to accelerate then I realize that I'm floating back to consciousness, aka I wake up. Now I can't control myself in my dreams so no fun dreams unless if I'm lucky.
|
I have had it, serioulsy fucked up. Remembering it make me shake, I remember having an intense feeling of falling then being pludged into an intense acid-like trip including thorn, poisonus plant growing at an incredible rate. Everytime I see someone write about dreaming I recall intense dream I had when I was youth and it make me want to quit weed just to be able to dream properly.

I think the best way to get out of a dream is to think something real contradictory or ridiculous:
I had such a nightmare last night: I was jovially driving around in Vienna, with a Lamborghini (which was really cool), when I blundered into a car accident. I can't recall exactly what happened, but eventually I ended up squishing a passenger against the rear side of a police car. And with squishing I mean the ugly kind, blood spurting out and limbs hanging off awkwardly. It all seemed damn real! I saw the shocked faces of the witnesses. The guy was obviously dead. And at that moment, my first and only thought was: should I turn off the engine? Obviously I had to get out; of course I could drive backwards first, but then I might squish another passenger (yes, these were really my thoughts) and the guy would probably stick to my windshield. That's when I woke up :D

sleep paralysis is normal. waking up during it on the other hand is not. i recommend eating a banana or drinking milk an hour or two before bed, and reminiscing about the good things that happened during the day, or any happy thoughts in general while in bed before you fall asleep.

imagine waking up in the middle of the night in sleep paralysis then chibi comes in the room at the edge of your bed and says 'ah yess, daddy's special love potion never fails' then starts taking his clothes off

I actually registered to teamliquid to reply to an earlier thread on sleep paralysis
It's interesting to read on other peoples experiences on the subject, I had this happend three times when I was younger and didn't know about it being a well known occurence, so I was scared shitless (trying to kick and scream only to find that I can't) when it happened.
For me there has always been a loud weird sound that has always been the same, it is hard to describe but it something like the static noise you hear from a tv screen when its out of band, magnified to 120db. The actual paralysis has also been such that I suddenly snap to being 100% awake, seeing the room where I am in such detail that I know I'm not dreaming, and then things progressively get more surreal to the point where I fall back asleep. So I guess I gradually 'phase out' of it back to dreaming...
When I 'phase out' I see weird things and such but it's not as lucid as the first second where I actually see the room in detail. For example the first time I had this when I was 12 years old and I was home alone, I 'woke up' in my room, no big deal. Then I see lights coming from the window and think 'ok parents got back home' (my room was such that the lights could have been car lights when someone drives to our house). Then the loud static kicks in and I start to panic and notice that I'm powerless to move. Then things start to get out of hand, I remember feeling like there was someone sitting on my bed, only I cant see him/it because he's sitting above my head and I cant turn my head to look at him/it. The sound also seems to be emitting from him/it. So I'm seriously freaking out trying to fight back (whatever the thing is doing on my bed it seems somehow threatening). I also remember crawling on the floor and being injected with a syringe but this is already in a very dreamlike state where nothing is lucid. So at this point I'm already sound asleep, having a nightmare.
I wake up in the morning and nothing is out of place (no syringe marks, I actually checked ). I was so freaked out by this and never discussed it with anyone since I thought ppl would think I'm somekind of ufo abduction freak . I was very relieved to read about sleep paralysis later in my life, the whole ordeal suddenly made sense.

I think I had sleep paralysis about 5 times I think. Haven't had one in recently but I remember it freaked me out so bad the first time. First time I heard like a small high pitch laughter like what you would expect from a little girl. Then I started waking up and then the laughter grew deeper into like a DEMONIC laughing O_O That scared the shit out of me. Second time was just as bad. I heard like random loud noise which just freaked me out for some reason. Third time I heard like bullets and gunfire all over the place. Fourth time I heard like ghosts whispering and like Diablo. Fifth time was the worst. It was like demonic beings screaming "You're gonna die" and cursing and making death threats. Worse I think I saw something in the corner of my eyes and something pressing down on my chest and suffocating me. I woke up so freakin scared T.T Basically everytime I had one, it turned even more scary. I heard that sleep paralysis is different with everyone. Some people hear noises (in my case), some people see like a "ghost" pressing down on their chest looking into their eyes. Others just see "themselves" (wtf?) doing something in the room. But it seems that everyone can't move or yell.
