You're much better starting from clones though; much easier and will save you 1-2 months vegging time.
If you're doing it outdoors, you need to do it NOW. Actually you should have started in March or April. Weather patterns and light cycles are going to be your biggest problems when figuring out which strain you want. You need something tailored to your climate and have it finish in time before the cold weather hits (all dependent on region).

Also, don't expect to get any pot your first run through. 90% of people crash and burn doing this.


Edit: You should also look at a notable mmj growing forum for growing advice lol. Teamliquid might not have the biggest handful of growers here.

Edit:Edit: Just saw you are from Canada. Go knock on your neighbor's door and ask them for some cuttings. You have something like a 1/10 chance of them being a grower ha.
