The numbers took a big hit with chipin and the twitch chat down, not to mention earthbound is just not a good game to watch. I'm glad they turned the chat back on, but I will probably only be back tomorrow for the PC games.

I can BS convincing-sounding and potentially even accurate programming-side technical explanations for most glitches in most games on the fly. Not perhaps the sort of in-depth analysis of routes and strats expected for pro-tier couchgoing, but maybe enough to stand in over someone's lunch break. I'd be willing to take, as a challenge, any glitch in any game on any platform during the marathon, but my meat and potatoes are zips, skips, undefined data and physics oversights particularly in classic 2D and first-gen 3D titles, and just about anything on NES.

Otherwise, I have literally made a professional career out of being the stop-gap expert in the room on any subject for which there is no proper expert in the room. I've put in enough play time on the following to explain plot and mechanics and recognize when a runner's strategy is not how the game would normally be played (and seen enough speedruns to take a stab at what they're probably up to instead):
Ape Escape (looong ago)
Ratchet & Clank
Kirby Super Star
SMW2
SMRPG
Sonic CD
Sonic 2
S3&K
SMB3
SMW
Keens (in a pinch; it's been ages since I did much with any but 4)
MM4,7,8,Forte
MMX
Blaster Master (sketchy beyond first half…)
Metroid Prime & Prime 2 (in an emergency)
Earthbound
DKC1 (...ago…)
F-Zero GX
Sonic Generations
Portal 2
Super Metroid
MZM
FFIX (in an emergency)
Zelda II (by BSing)
LttP, OoT (…dangit; I'll need to miss a big chunk of OoT, or else miss my flight out Tongue )

If any of those end up needing supporting commentary, I'd give it a go. With prior notice, I could even squeeze in some fresh practice/research time.

Yeah, the schedule for today is a bit lackluster. I don't think RPG speedruns like Earthbound are that good to watch anyways, they are just too long....

They showed some cool tricks but it isn't very interesting to watch. I keep it in the background but yeah... looking forward to Super Mario after this.

I'll take this short break I am getting because the stream is down to express my gratitude towards all organizers and runners who made this possible. I never really was into speed runs before, but the performances in this event made me realize how interesting they are and the event itself made me realize how great the people are who are doing this.

How can it be lackluster? There is a Donkey Kong Country race!

But in general it is just smart planning having these intentional downtimes, leading up to more intense sections. You can't have a room filled with enthusiastic people 24/7, and lining it up with the best viewing hours makes for a better stream. Plus I guess it's hard to fill 153 hours of stream without long games.

I've never seen the game run before, so it was pretty cool. Plus history lesson on sda in it too.

Anyone know why the timer was reset for the Mother run?

It happened when the stream went down. I'm guessing the computer crashed and killed their timer.
Even during difficult times, when I sat down to play the game, there were times where it felt like god has descended down and played [for me].

Stream crashed, and I guess somehow the timer got thrown off with that? However, if you look just to the right of the estimate, the 3:54:12 was the time when it crashed, so that + current timer = total time so far.
