Not that it matters, even an armed Mk IX spitfire is no match in air to air combat against a 262, but at least it would have been a fight. :/

Here is a chart of WW2 fighters: Speed in Km/h vs Altitude in M ![]() Blue = Spitfire Mk. IX (on which the Mk. XI was based) Green = P51 Mustang Yellow = Spitfire Mk.21 Red = Me-262 http://www.csd.uwo.ca/~pettypi/elevon/gustin_military/perf/perf.html

Would you like to play the speculative historian and tell me your opinion? Had germany not focused so much on the V rockets and successfully completed the development of their jet aircraft, would it have changed the outcome of the war? I wrote a paper on this a couple years ago and found it an interesting topic.

I don't really know how good germany's preliminary jet fighters were on range (the focke wulfe was a hunk of junk, come on) but if their early efforts could give them the boost they needed in time, Britain would be mangled and it would be germany versus us, the americans, and the ruskies. I don't think they could have held their territory for long (especially if they'd occupied Britain as well) considering how fast they fell after Normandy. ![]()
