I think the lifting examples are actually some of the worst you can come up with in this topic. Weightlifting is generally dangerous for your back, even if you do it the right way and our bodies are not designed to do this.

That being said, there is indeed a need for a healthy lifestyle when being immersed in the hardcore gaming world, which is the same for everything that involves sitting a lot (like office work).

Day9 has done an episode on at least loosening up your joints and muscles in between every one or two matches, but doing decently intense movement for at least 30 minutes each day is just a simple requirement of a healthy lifestyle to prevent those veins from closing up.

Being a biologist and hypocrit here by the way, knowing all that can go wrong, but not doing much myself
Comparing BW with SCII is like comparing a beautiful three-master sailing ship with a modern battlecruiser. Both are beautiful in their own way, both perform the same task, but they are worlds apart in how they are built and how they are steered.

What about those huge balls/balloons to sit on, do they work?
Or are they too tiring to sit upon for multiple hours?

Sitting properly should always be tiring in the sense that it requires muscular contraction and you to be actively thinking about your position. I sat on a ball for around a year prior to moving to a standing desk. It's a good primer to getting your glutes and abs more involved, but I found that once you toughen up you'll find ways to be lazy and cheat just like you did in a chair. They "work" by helping you learn how to sit properly, but they don't force you sit properly (though they will at first).

I think weightlifting and sitting at a computar desk must be conflicting activities physically for every person. I wouldn't think that musuclar weightlifting routines are the ideal method for better posture while gaming, but every body is different.

I'm no sure what you mean by humans not being designed to lift heavy weights;; I think any form of weight lifting is fine for yourself as long as its performed properly and not overly intensified.

here's a quote from Flash taken from an interview @ http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=426074

"Q: Will your ruler get a sponsor?

Flash: There was a time when my fans like to give rulers to me as gift. Before every game, I use a 30CM ruler to measure my mousepad, the height of the Mouse Bungee, the distance between monitor and keyboard, etc. When I saw the rulers from my fans, I realized for the first time that there are so many kinds of rulers. Sometimes I receive 5-6 rulers everyday. And they are all different."

I don't know what he menas by rulers but whatever

Chair height. Desk height. Feet height. (In respective order)
If you make this, your posture will be better. But it all comes down to your back. If you keep slouching with your upper back and neck. You will develop pain in your shoulder and upper back and cervical area.

I don't think you can just give someone information like "your table needs to be exactly 19cm higher up" or something. Just adjust things around your playing setup until you find something which you find comfortable.

I think there's a mentality threshold where you have to find your own comfort and focus more on playing the game than helping your own posture or perhaps the distances for sitting, viewing, etc.

This was the first thing I thought of when I saw the thread title.
I really want an adjustable standing desk. I really like stand-up desks.
I like corsairs.
