.......hey all, I think a thread on this was posted some time ago but I had to start another because I just had first hand experience with it.
I believe it is called Sleep paralysis, and 2 nights ago, I woke up feeling half awake but half asleep if that even makes any sense. Anyways, I tried to move and felt like an invisible force just nullified all attempts to move or even speak because I tried to call for someone as I noticed my door was wide open.
I also remember reading up on this about how it's a demon sitting on your chest? I then remember conciously that I was going through this and told myself to remain calm, then I felt like I was falling outta my bed as if i was gliding off my bed. That subsided then I remember hearing someone scream twice, it sounded like a woman's voice. I got pretty freaked out at this point then it stopped and I was like, "wtf"?
ANyone have any similar experiences or comments?

I've had it a couple of times. It is pretty scary to not be able to move. I cant scream but I still try to everytime. It's cool afterwards but it dont happend so often so I have yet to test that I know what is happening ect. My mom has it too.

i keep hearing about it and i finally felt it couple days ago at school i was sleeping on my desk and i "woke up" but i could move any part of my body. you know how your arm/leg goes numb so bad your brain is telling to move it, but it wont move. I had that on my whole body. i tried then opening my eyes atlest but it wont. in my mind it was using my full force muscle to move any part of my body but it wouldnt move. then i kind of snap out of it, (felt like waking from a dream)

Yea happened to me once. I saw a nightmare, woke up, tried to move but I couldn't :/ It sucked, I was scared :D

The demons on your chest coems from the fact that if you try to control your breathing during this paralysis, you might feel a large pressure onto your chess.
Sleep paralysis is essential or else you'll act out your dreams.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_paralysis: Many people who claim to induce out-of-body experiences say that sleep paralysis is a golden opportunity to leave the physical body.
i would pay to have an obe (out of boy experience) , i tried so often but nothing T_T

I just remembered when I made a topic about Astral Projection and everyone laughed and were talking about DBZ, when in fact it's just as real as sleep paralysis.
|
This one time I was sleeping on the couch because I'm cool like that. When I woke up I realized I had been sleeping on my arm all night and it was just hanging off its joint, I couldn't move the arm at all, not my fingers or anything. There was this really weird painful feeling as the blood was rushing to the arm too. It's a good thing.

Not funny, especialy when u try to concentrate on moving while u can do nothing, no sense of touch, worst when u see everything around.

... yeah, except that sleep paralysis is real and astral projection isn't.
Oh yeah HAHAHAHAAHHAHAHA

Yeah, I experienced sleep paralysis like three-four nights in a row, the week I had a MAJOR project due. Temporary paralysis, feels as if somethings sitting on your chest, shadows are playing games with your vision, youre hearing indistinct voices in the quiet night. Its a very surreal experience.

I think I managed to fight this thing - I get this kind of dreams where I *know* that something strange or scary will happen, so I force myself to wake up. Anyway, just before I wake up I feel paralized and very frightened. I don't like this feeling so I'm trying to avoid it.
I think it has tome connection with lucid dreaming - because I know that I'm dreaming. But I cannot get rid of this fear, so it's useless in holy quest to dream about f*** that girl I saw yesterday. Bad luck.

ever had your legs run low on blood cause you slept on it and when you finally wake up and let blood back in, it hurts like hell?

I hate this :/
I sometimes wake up and I think I'm gonna suffocate because I'm lying with my face into my pillow. Only thing I can move right then is my mouth :\ And I just cant gather the force to move my arms or something

Had it once: I dreamed my grandpa had died and I was crying and crying, and then I fond out that since I cried so much, my nose got blocked up so I could'nt breath. I woke up from my dream suddenly due to the lack of air, I fond out that my nose really IS blocked up, and there are some real tears in my eyes. I tried to breath through my nose but I can't(It's blocked, obviously), and I can't move at all. it felt horrible, suffcating. Then in an instant, with out even thinking about it, I snapped open my mouth and gulped at the air. Felt pretty strange after that, not because I actually cried in real life because of a dream, also the dream nearly suffocated me by blocking my nose and my ignorant, or rather, paralyzed jaws.

edit: typo

that totally normal, this is just the 2 minutes when you awake and where your dream seems like their real

I'm surprised how common this is, since when I saw some documentary on it on TLC I was assuming that it's some kind of rare thing because it's never happened to me.

Tactile hallucinations (such as a hand touching or grabbing)
Vibration
i have these combo. and it's scary as fuck
i felt both arm grabbed and my my leg lifted really high. and boom! fucking shakes my leg.
my worst ever SP.
|
SP makes me angery every time since it disturbs my sleep and scares me shitless. I don't only lose control of every goddamn bodily function (including breathing) but also my thoughts...kinda hard to explain. Like it would be hard to focus on any given thing. My mind would wonder and drift, and random thoughts would seemly be forced in place of my own thoughts...like someone else was pushing buttons in my mind that trigger random thoughts...weirdest thing ever. It's also hard to gain control of my thoughts as something is talking/screaming/crying in the background with a very loud wind blowing sound. But the hallucinations are the worst tho of when you can actually see shit. Since everyone has similar experiences i wonder if this is super natural in anyway?
|
Well, I got it once. Scared the shit out of me as I was sure that something was sitting at the top of the wardrobe in the shadows but I couldn't turn my head to look at it... *boggle*
|
dang it goes on for mintues? now that must be hella fustrating/scary, mine lasted only 5 seconds or so.

only problem with this is that if you were totally paralysed for that amount of time (and I know REM sleep is short, but not that short - I do forget how long though, maybe half an hour) then you'd probably be dead :D
oh and once I woke up and I couldn't move my arm and there was someone touching my face it took a good few minutes before I realized it was my hand -.-

Happened to me. At first scary, but later funny stuff. Once I actually managed to sleep on both of my arms. I woke up, without feeling my arms. I recognized the potential of the the situation soon, I quickly got to stand up and started to spin for a second, than stopped ... it was funny, how my arms continued to move in the spinning direction till they hit the body. I spinned several times - left-right-left-... till the blood came back. Those arms were just a pair of ropes hanging from my shoulders.
