Hey guys! We'll be closing this thread shortly, but we will make an American politics megathread where we can continue the discussions in here.

Personally, for myself, I'm happy that Obama won. I truly think that, in the long run, he will do better for our country as a whole, and I agree with him on the social issues (gay marriage, etc.). And as a guy who will be graduating from college in May, I want a president who is actually in my corner.

On the other hand, my dad is a small business owner (manufacturing) in CT. Obama being reelected could very well mean my father going out of business within the next couple of years. The mandated medicare is really going to hurt him (and, in turn, the family business).

It's a little bitter sweet, tbh.

Yes people that vote Democrat are the people that want things. Meanwhile Romney was gonna give everyone a 20% tax cut. Better luck next time.

Can you disprove his statement though? I can tell you that out of the 30 or so people I know that openly voted for Obama, 13 of them mentioned they would get more "stuff" for free easier on their Facebook page. One even joked that Obama was personally sending him a new iPhone. Whether or not they will get "Free" items, they believed it will happen and voted based of that assumption. Is it right? I do not think so, but they are over 18 and can vote

Facts are... 12% unemployment for people without a high school diploma, 10% of those with no secondary education are unemployed as well. That's what the numbers say and those individuals helped shape the future of American Democracy.

sounds like you got trolled. hard. let me guess you spam anti obama stuff daily and they troll you in return. i see it on my feed for weeks xD You've got to be reallllly gullible to think people vote obama to "get free items".

Mandated medicare? I think you're confusing it for just simply requiring coverage, I don't think it's medicare. Even as a supporter myself I'm wondering how that part will end up affecting businesses. I wish the best of luck to your dad and his business.

A summary of the health care law, a timeline of implementation, and a flowchart of implementation. Hopefully this info will help you or your dad figure some things out if you haven't had time to dive into everything yet.

http://www.kff.org/healthreform/upload/8061.pdf
Summary of requirements for employers.
Assess employers with 50 or more full-time employees that do not offer coverage and have at least one full-time employee who receives a premium tax credit a fee of $2,000 per full-time employee, excluding the first 30 employees from the assessment. Employers with 50 or more full-time employees that offer coverage but have at least one full-time employee receiving a premium tax credit, will pay the lesser of $3,000 for each employee receiving a premium credit or $2,000 for each full-time employee, excluding the first 30 employees from the assessment. (Effective January 1, 2014)
• Exempt employers with up to 50 full-time employees from any of the above penalties.

We just need to remove employer based healthcare. It would give people more job mobility which could drive wages up which would be awesome =)

Only reason the Democrats didn't win the House(or make significant gains) was because of redistricting where the GOP drew the lines recently. Yes Democrats are also guilty of redistricting and it's something that needs to be changed ASAP. It's why things have gotten as divisive as they have since politicians are drawing their own demographics and know whoever they put up with an R in a certain district or a D in a certain district have no chance of losing.

For those curious check out Florida House Districts. Check out those squiggly lines! You literally have some districts surrounding other districts in order to split the vote. So you have a situation where a Democrat would have a seat and a Republican would have a seat(under normal block redistricting) but due to how they drew the lines it split the Democratic vote equally between those two districts leaving Republicans with both seats.

We won't have fair representatives of the people(at least in the house) until this bullshit goes away.

Gerrymandering is something both sides do. It's completely hilarious, because given how my neighborhood is split, my neighbors vote under one sub-section and I vote another.

Yup, unfortunately I don't see it changing anytime soon.

I work for a small plating shop in Ohio, around 35-40ish employees. Today when i walked into work, our boss called a meeting to tell us that he's "99% sure" that he's going to be dropping the company health plan. Something about it's going to be impossible for small businesses to provide health care to their employees now.

Thoughts, anyone?

So I guess it will be four more years of basically hung government with the parliament rejecting all the president's ideas and the country moving nowhere

I'm happy that Obama won, but I guess with republican parliament there will be no substantial changes for the better.

sounds like bullshit to me. But yet another reason we need more healthcare reform and to get rid of employer based health insurance (at least where that is the main portion of your insurance).

Speaking of work.....I was greeted with a "Hello Comrad" when I came into work today........pretty sad ;( I thought the guy was more intelligent than that.

Under 50 employees = no requirement to have health plan.

Your boss has no plans to grow his business beyond 50 employees, and does not want to partake in the projected average $2.5k+ increase in individual premiums ($100k per year). He also knows that you, my friend, are a captive audience because you have nowhere else to go in this stagnant economy, so he decided that he will save the additional $3-6k/yr he is currently paying for your health plan. I hope you did not vote for Obama, but if you did, viva le Justice Poetique.

Oh well, we all knew this was coming. I guess that you should have paid more attention (sad that an Ohio voter of all people is this clueless / uninformed unless trololol).

Its a far better alternative than having bad things done by the Republicans. And plus there are still things that can be done monetarily instead of fiscally that can improve the economy.

Lol, you mean printing money? Please describe in detail as to what can be done "monetarily instead of fiscally that can improve the economy."

What "bad" things would the Republicans have done in terms of the economy? A decisive majority of the electoral vote gave Mitt the best scores with respect to the economy, even though many of those people ended up not showing up to vote / deciding on other issues. Not that you would understand this, being a BlackPanther and all; didn't I see you and your "bros" in Ohio on Tues?

Now that all this is over (almost) and obama is da winrar.

WTF is up with your guys election process?

you live in a democracy.....BUT from what i know of your system its nothing like that at all.

correct me if im wrong, but if 1 person can get 270 electoral points(state vote thingy pont shit) by winning each state by only 100-1000 votes. then not get a single vote in every other state he can still be president?

please tell me that isnt the case and im horrible mistaken.
