sex discrimination lawsuit? maxim has deep pockets.

it was invalid entry to begin with and would have not passed the judges as it says on the rules.

au contraire mon ami. nothing prevents guys from participating. =D

2. ELIGIBILITY: This Contest is only open to residents legally residing and permitted to work within the fifty (50) United States and the District of Columbia, who are twenty-one (21) years of age or older as of April 2, 2012. Employees of Sponsor, Gotcast, LLC (“Gotcast”), and Intertaintech Corporation DBA Virgin Gaming ("Virgin Gaming"), any event sponsors, and their respective parent companies, affiliates, subsidiaries, and related companies, agencies, the judging panel (collectively, the “Promotion Parties”) and immediate families (defined as parents, children, siblings and spouse and their respective spouses, regardless of where they reside) and those living in the same household, whether or not related, are not eligible to enter, win or vote. Void in Puerto Rico, all U.S. territories and possessions and overseas military installations and where prohibited or restricted by law.

People are saying because he had a TL shirt on it could possible disqualify him. But that would probably disqualify the Tradechat girl as well (anyone wearing clothing labeled with anything but MAXIM apparently). They probably just removed him because they could, and he was a lock for the top 3 -_-.

sounds like pretext to me. if you look closely, all of the guys have been removed. there was another guy that had quite a bit of votes as well. he is gone. the only guys now are newly signed up candidates. looks like they had a cull over the weekend.

i, for one, will not stand for this blatant sex discrimination by maxim. if hot_bid doesnt want to sue, i will do my part and contact all of maxim's sponsors, make a post on reddit to recruit the pitchforks and potentially make a tl.net thread.

Have you considered the MMO-Champion forum? You are just as irrational and delusional with the right portion of nostalgic populism. By the way: The old Brood War was absolutely unplayable

it is up to their discretion and this is for "Gamer Girl" not "Gamer People". i have no idea why you're trying to legitimize male participants for a female contest by nitpicking details while ignoring "Gamer Girl" part. raise your pitchfork if they disqualify transgender or something but hotbid is clearly not finalist worthy.

Because its fun. I can't believe they never put it in the rules you had to be a girl. Seems unprofessional.

It was fun, but it was inevitable that Hotbid was disqualified. I'm sure it was an oversight when they forgot to write a rule that you had to have the XX chromosomes.

its illegal to exercise discretion in a way that results in sex discrimination. pretext is illegal. otherwise, what would be the point of having anti-discrimination laws? there is no rule against being a male, and i dont see a violation of any of those other rules. it was completely pretextual, which is evidenced by the removal of all males, not just hotbid.

i cant believe you are so pro-discrimination!!! let me lay out the factors for you:

- real life people hate discrimination
- it hurts everyone
- consider the feelings of males
- ku klux klan didnt consider their feelings as well
- really? are we going to be like the KKK?
- oh really?
- look at how that affected the world
- look at the first letter of each factor

....why does "Gamer Girl" fly right past your head?
are you upset about the fact that they made it Gamer Girl, not Gamer in general?
or are you upset about the fact that they didnt write "this "Gamer Girl" competition is for girls only"?

either way...it doesnt make sense to me why you're defending male participants for female contest, as the title suggests.

it was invalid entry to begin with and would have not passed the judges as it says on the rules.

au contraire mon ami. nothing prevents guys from participating. =D

They probably just removed him because they could, and he was a lock for the top 3 -_-.

sounds like pretext to me. if you look closely, all of the guys have been removed. there was another guy that had quite a bit of votes as well. he is gone. the only guys now are newly signed up candidates. looks like they had a cull over the weekend.

i, for one, will not stand for this blatant sex discrimination by maxim. if hot_bid doesnt want to sue, i will do my part and contact all of maxim's sponsors, make a post on reddit to recruit the pitchforks and potentially make a tl.net thread.

it is up to their discretion and this is for "Gamer Girl" not "Gamer People". i have no idea why you're trying to legitimize male participants for a female contest by nitpicking details while ignoring "Gamer Girl" part. raise your pitchfork if they disqualify transgender or something but hotbid is clearly not finalist worthy.

5. ENTRY CONDITIONS: LIMIT 1 ENTRY PER PERSON. If more than 1 Entry per person is received or if any person attempts to submit more than 1 Entry by using the same, multiple or different names or email addresses, then each Entry or attempted Entries may be deemed void and that person may be disqualified from the Contest or any other Sponsor Contest, in Sponsor’s sole discretion. Entry must showcase the Entrant ONLY or Sponsor may disqualify the Entry. No illegible, incomplete, forged or altered Entries will be accepted. An Entry will not be submitted until Entrant checks the box on the initial registration screen to confirm that Entrant has agreed to these Official Rules. Each Entry: (i) MUST NOT include live weapons/ammunition (any use of live weapons and/or ammunition will result in automatic disqualification from the Contest) (ii) must be in keeping with the Sponsor’s image (as Sponsor determines in its sole discretion), (iii) may not be inappropriate, offensive, libelous or defamatory, pornographic, sexually explicit, contain nudity, unlawful or plagiarized content, as Sponsor determines in its sole discretion, (iv) must not be harassing, abusive, threatening, harmful, vulgar, profane, obscene, violent, racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable or offensive in any way, as Sponsor determines in its sole discretion, (v) may not violate or encourage others to violate any law, statute, ordinance or regulation, (vi) may not defame or invade publicity rights or privacy of any person, living or deceased, or otherwise infringe upon any person’s personal or property right or any other third party right, (vii) may not contain commercial or corporate advertising, including display of corporate logos, brand names and slogans, other than those relating to Sponsor, (viii) must not include visual references to alcoholic beverages, tobacco, drug paraphernalia, firearms or any depiction or representation thereof and (ix) may not include any virus, worm, corrupt file, Trojan horse or other forms of corruptive code or content that may harm or compromise the Site or the proper conduct of the Contest. Sponsor reserves the right to verify the accuracy or truthfulness of any information contained within a submitted Entry. Sponsor has the right in its sole discretion to determine if any Entry is not appropriate for publication on the Site or for any other public release and if Entry is in compliance with these Official Rules. Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify an Entry that is not in compliance with these Official Rules. Sponsor’s decisions are final and binding with respect to all matters relating to this Contest.

its illegal to exercise discretion in a way that results in sex discrimination. pretext is illegal. otherwise, what would be the point of having anti-discrimination laws? there is no rule against being a male, and i dont see a violation of any of those other rules. it was completely pretextual, which is evidenced by the removal of all males, not just hotbid.

i cant believe you are so pro-discrimination!!! let me lay out the factors for you:

- real life people hate discrimination
- it hurts everyone
- consider the feelings of males
- ku klux klan didnt consider their feelings as well
- really? are we going to be like the KKK?
- oh really?
- look at how that affected the world
- look at the first letter of each factor

- really? are we going to be like the KKK?
- oh really?

....why does "Gamer Girl" fly right past your head?
are you upset about the fact that they made it Gamer Girl, not Gamer in general?
or are you upset about the fact that they didnt write "this "Gamer Girl" competition is for girls only"?

either way...it doesnt make sense to me why you're defending male participants for female contest, as the title suggests.

It appears that my profile has now been removed. It's okay though, it wasn't a serious entry and I'm glad I helped some people vent about the ridiculousness of the gamer girl term and the contest in general. If you're still interested in it please vote for Anna, she's a good representative of our community.

might aswell lock the thread then. feel like its better to make a new thread for people considering 'serious' entries.

sex discrimination lawsuit? maxim has deep pockets.

it was invalid entry to begin with and would have not passed the judges as it says on the rules.

au contraire mon ami. nothing prevents guys from participating. =D

They probably just removed him because they could, and he was a lock for the top 3 -_-.

sounds like pretext to me. if you look closely, all of the guys have been removed. there was another guy that had quite a bit of votes as well. he is gone. the only guys now are newly signed up candidates. looks like they had a cull over the weekend.

i, for one, will not stand for this blatant sex discrimination by maxim. if hot_bid doesnt want to sue, i will do my part and contact all of maxim's sponsors, make a post on reddit to recruit the pitchforks and potentially make a tl.net thread.

it is up to their discretion and this is for "Gamer Girl" not "Gamer People". i have no idea why you're trying to legitimize male participants for a female contest by nitpicking details while ignoring "Gamer Girl" part. raise your pitchfork if they disqualify transgender or something but hotbid is clearly not finalist worthy.

Bah you should just take it a little less seriously. Which is like the competition is lacking some serious Gamer Girls. Like Slayers_Jessica, TossGirl, Scarlett, or any girl who has competed seriously in gaming or made an impact as a Girl Gamer. It really is a about who is showing the most skin or has the biggest rack. Why should we take it serious? All I can do is vote for Anna, but I would still like to have some fun at the expense of MAXIM which does nothing but promote a very narrow minded image of women.

- look at how that affected the world
- look at the first letter of each factor

....why does "Gamer Girl" fly right past your head?
are you upset about the fact that they made it Gamer Girl, not Gamer in general?
or are you upset about the fact that they didnt write "this "Gamer Girl" competition is for girls only"?

either way...it doesnt make sense to me why you're defending male participants for female contest, as the title suggests.

edit: lame. ㅡ,.ㅡ

i think you mean people who read posts with a pretense of troll post and who dont.
you did try hard...i should just ignore small minded/slow people, like you were pretending to be.

This is demonstrably false and has been shown in this thread actually. There may not be SC2 gamers, or 'hardcore competitive' gamers, but there are legitimate women that play video games in the competition. That's even making the concession that one has to play games at some competitive level or play an arbitrary list of certain titles to be a 'gamer.'

There are gamers that fit that description, but thats not what MAXIM wants, and its not what their contest is about. If it really was about that it wouldn't be open to anyone who wanted to make an account. They would have taken time and hand picked a dozen women to symbolized esports and gone with them. And you don't have to be competitive either for me to be happy. If I were to watch Anna's Baneling Costume video then watched a video of a girl playing competitive CS I wouldn't put one a head of the other. But if I watch that video of Anna's followed by one of TradeChats joke videos I would vote Anna a million times over (thats probably mostly personal preference). MAXIM is known for T&A and thats what they want.
