I'll be in Venice for at least 1 week, possibly a tad longer, Florence for a couple days, and Cinque Terre for a couple days as well. Wish I had some. Maybe check out pics from Pitti Uomo for suggestions on brands? Do your shopping in Florence for sure like lichter said. You also don't really need a week to check out Venice unless you got some special event going on.

hows the branding, was turned off cuz of that

well i love the branding so i'm biased

the stupid winding street is lombard street in case you haven't figured it out. golden gate park is pretty cool if you're into parks--there's also stow lake where you can boat around + the de young museum is around there too i think
ghiradelli square seconded, union square is worth a visit, and the palace of fine arts is pretty cool
|
The De Young is right in the middle of the park. Decent frisbee-golf course there as well. If you're around on a Thursday night the California Academy of Sciences has a 'night life' event with 3 or so bars and lots of cool exhibits.
If you're into movement I'd recommend checking out The Athletic Playground in Emeryville (the little town between Berkeley Oakland and the bay). They have classes teaching acrobatics, aerial arts (silks, trapeze), parkour, capoeira (a Brazilian martial art) and other fun stuff.
I'd recommend checking out the Ferry Building, Gott's diner there is pretty good, and you can take a boat across the bay to Jack London (Oakland) where there's lots of nice dinner options away from the feces and urine of SF. In Oakland I'd recommend Chop Bar (walking distance from Jack London ferry or 12th street bart) Forge Pizza (in Jack London), Actual Cafe (Emeryville) (uber/lyft from MacArthur or Ashby bart) and Burma Superstar (Oakland, uber/lyft from MacArthur bart). There's a Burma Superstar in SF as well, and a sister restaurant B-Star Bar a few blocks from it. They don't take reservations and the ones in SF typically have a long wait, if you hit up the one in Oakland on a weekday night (around 7:00) you can usually get a table right away.
The winding street can be skipped, I'd grab a pastry and hop on a cable car on California street near Embarcadero bart, the view is nice. I do this as a local every once in awhile to remind myself that SF isn't a complete sh*thole
As you can probably tell from reading this I live in the East Bay and I'm not so enamored with the City. It's dirty, noisy, there's always really bad traffic. I live in a nice quiet neighborhood in Berkeley where it's relatively clean and I can drive to the grocery store in 5 minutes and I don't have to worry about rush hour traffic 24/7.

Oh, and if you want some nice leather shoes... The Red Wing store in Emeryville is the place to go. It's easily accessible via BART and a free shuttle.

Thanks for all the SF recs guys, I appreciate it. I'll have some access to a car - is Napa Valley worth it?
