TBS is tres bien shop i have a pair of ace cash and max stay cash and slp and a pair of diors ace cash is basically same cut as max cash except ace has a higher rise if you're comparing them to slp/dior, the best comparison would be the 17.5cms, but even then they're pretty different. for slp, the thigh is much more narrow than the acnes and the rise is pretty low even compared to the max cash. to address the other earlier question about the differences in fits between the different sizes, the slp and dior are literally the same cuts for each respective corresponding size; dior has not changed the cut since hedi left the helm. the numbers represent the width of the hem in cm at size 30. so the only differences between the two brands are the 15.5 and the 21 for slp and dior, respectively. 15.5 is actually a different cut than either the 17.5 and 19 - it has a higher rise. 21cms are basically 17.5cms with a wider hem and wider corresponding leg width. as for quality, acnes are constructed well but have awful qc, lose threads galore slp/diors are pretty decent in terms of quality but if you compare them to heritage brands such as ironheart/fh/whatever the difference is large. even n&f has far better durability. max cash = raw black tapered denim, low rise, 100% cotton max stay cash = black tapered denim, low rise, 98% cotton & 2% poly for color longevity and texture ace cash = raw black tapered, med-high rise, 100% cotton also i forgot to mention there are two sources of denim for diors, Japan and Italy. their japanese pairs tend to be narrower and have raw & selvedge varieties, and their italian pairs are wider and have washed & raw varieties but no selvedge. I don't know where slp sources fabric but I know for sure that their selvedge fabric comes from japan. idk for their other fabrics. I'd go for acne tbh, regardless of their seaming issues. I think I made it more of a deal than it actually is, but it's something you'll notice if you're spoiled and you come to expect workwear level quality for denim. I think 3sixteen offers some attractive options for what you're looking for as well. i was really confused about that too because the site describes ace as 'skinny' and max as 'slim' but in my experience they were the same cut minus the difference in rise

You're right that the ace has a higher rise but imo the ace has a stronger taper below the knee. If you compare the two in acne's fit visualizer thing it shows a difference. Also, mrporter lists size 30 leg opening of ace cash: 12.5", max cash: 14". Although if you wear size 29 the difference goes down to an inch: ace cash: 12.5", max cash: 13.5". If you have both pairs in hand I'd be interested to see your measurements

I can't take pictures because I'm at work, but I know for certain that my size 29/34 ace cash and my size 30/34 max cash both have the same hem - 6.5 inches. I measured them right after they came. edit: I looked up some stuff about this because I'm ocd curious. Two things: First, Mr Porter's measurements are really odd. eg, ace cash size 32 has a more narrow waist than a size 31; also, the leg opening measurements are all over the place - max cash 34/34 has an opening of of 6.25 inches compared to 31/34 which has an opening of 7 inches. If you compare that to oki-ni their measurements aren't as detailed but more consistent. http://www.oki-ni.com/legwear/acne-men-s-max-cash-jeans-acn0002raw.html http://www.oki-ni.com/legwear/acne-ace-cash-jeans-acn0001raw.html I'm not sure what to conclude from that tbh. Second thing to note is that acne has since changed the cut of the max line in ~2013; I've seen new and old versions being re-sold on grey markets. I have no experience with the newer cut, so you could be right about the difference in cuts.

Left Field Black Maria are a pretty popular black pair in the ~$200 acne range I think. Might be sold out in your size though.
