Relevent Material. + Show Spoiler + I also enjoy the reverence that is bestowed upon these cats, many of the rangers that are charged with the care of their territory take great pains not to kill them even if it puts themselves at dire risk. There was a picture of a ranger standing on top of his vehicle pointing his shotgun at a cat that was coming at him, and there was a guy running away, and several guys laying on the ground.

There's a time and place for everything, but not here and now lol. Depending on the severity of the attack, it's possible all he sustained was a flesh wound and the scalp could be reattached. Indian medicine is also not exactly 3rd world, so a doctor could have done a respectable job cleaning the wound and sewing the scalp back onto the head. Just my observations. On January 09 2012 04:32 Grend wrote: Getting scalped is not lethal so this is not exactly surprising.. + Show Spoiler + You find the one picture of a scalped individual surviving and automatically think scalping is not lethal? The time period for scalping was when people sawed off legs because they got shot in the foot. Scalping IS lethal because of the 1) blood loss 2) proximity to the brain 3) the use of crude tools in performing scalping. Oh yeah, people get scalped because of religious reasons, proof of death, or torture. In all three cases the person performing the scalping doesn't give a shit whether or not the scalped individual survives. Edit: The leopard doesn't give a shit either.

I mostly responded to the title: "Man survives being scalped by leopard [India]" And that is not really news since scalping is not lethal if you prevent infections and excessive blood loss.

Im sure that hurt like hell but it doesnt appear that he lost that much blood and didnt sustain much more than a flesh wound. Not to undermine the ordeal that he went through but that isnt really a life ending injury. Tought dude regardless though! No, I'm sure having a leopard claw its way into your brain isn't often life threatening.. There are other ways to die than off blood loss you know. I also think its cruel of nature to make something so cute, so deadly I just wanna hug it! Scalping only means removing the skin at the top of the head, it's unlikely that the attack opened the skull ( he wouldn't me walking after the attack if the skull was cracked open ^^). So yeah it's a wound that is impressive and bleeds a lot, but apart from the blood loss it's not really life threatening. For those of you who say that they hope that the leopard won't be killed... it would be a really big mistake to release, now that he has attacked human once he is much more likely to do it again. Even if they release him far from any urban area it's really hard to guarantee that this animal will never get into contact with humans again. It's really unfortunate, but it would really surprise me if they don't take him down.
