I've taken an interest in such music, any recommendations would be appreciated. I like Ave Maria, Moonlight Sonata, and Beethoven's Symphonies.

Beethoven is very good.

In classical music, I believe the stories behind the composers are almost as important as what you're hearing from them... for this reason I recommend Mozart.

Pretty much all of his work is very good, but especially anything from Requiem, The Abduction from the Seraglio, The Marriage of Figaro. Ave Verum Corpus has always been a favorite of mine also.

"The three B's": Bach, Beethoven, Brahms is a good start. Brahms is my favorite classical composer, no question. Don't forget Dvorskey. (Sorry for spelling, it's been a while since I had to spell their names.) SoLaR and RowdierBob are also right on with their picks. Great stuff.

P.S. Chopin is pronounced "show-PAN", not "KOPE-in". Almost everyone gets that wrong.

I've never heard anyone say 'KOPE-in' in my entire life, and I've worked in a music store.

Selling what? Classical music? If so, then your customers probably knew better. If you go to a local Sam Goody (or whatever chain store), classical newbs usually get the name wrong, and the employees don't know any better. So... I guess it all works out in the end, either way.

Sampler tapes are good also. I have one with Bizet, Dvorak, Vavaldi, Bach and Mozart. These kinds of collections are good because they are usually very cheap and give you a broad range of selections.

i rarely hear chopin pronounced wrong. but then again, i never see anyone go to sam goody to buy classical music. by the way, you spelled vivaldi wrong.

Thanks for pointing out the careless typo. By the same token, you probably already saw that I did not add the special characters over Dvorak's name. As I said in a previous post, sorry for the misspellings.
