It's finally here. The latest Chili Peppers album. Their tenth album featuring new guitarist Josh Klinghoffer following the departure of John Frusciante.

+ Show Spoiler +
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RtBbinpK5XI
For me, the single released last month was somewhat of a disappointment. By releasing a very Stadium Arcadium-esque sounding song, I felt they were more trying to reassure fans it's still the Chili Peppers without John.

I've been excited for this album since it was first released. I was initially disappointed with Stadium Arcadium when it first came out. I missed the old stuff. As I continued to listen through it, I fell in love with 'every' single song on that album. I am listening through the album right now, and I'm loving it already. John Frusciante in hindsight really felt like the soul of RHCP, but Josh is awesome. He won't replace him, but he's really putting together something wonderful. Factory of Faith is definitely up there right now as my favorite right now (may change as I finish the album though!). Alright RHCP fans, discuss!

Considering that i'm not a huge fan of rock to begin with, the fact that they changed their guitarist didn't affect me the least. That said, I really enjoyed listening to that album!

I haven't listened to the whole album yet, but I'm pumped its finally out! Hopefully its another good one . Can't wait to get it and start listening.

And the single kinda disappointed me too, but after hearing it a few times its won me over and I really enjoy it now haha. The cow bell is amazing. And the music video is so awesome, I probably would have crapped my pants if I was there .

I've been very sceptical about the album due to the new guitarrist / backup vocalist.

But the new guy seems really talented and technically apt.
From what I've been able to hear so far, the album seems pretty awesome.

Also, I share Clicker's views on Stadium Arcadium completely.
I didn't like it very much at first and now it's one of my favourite albums of all time, loving almost every song (Storm in a Teacup sucks, tbh.).

Chili Peppers were the band that got me into listening to rock in probably about 98' or so, I saw them live in Hyde Park a few years ago. I love(d) their unique sound, and their wonderful funk/rock fusion of Californication, Blood Sex Sugar Magik, to an extent by the way, and Stadium Arcadium has a few songs that I loved, too.

Californication remains my favourite album of all time, and I'll fondly remember the band before they descended into middle of the road rubbish. This band, who have helped me through some interesting times, really have lost so much talent in losing John, and while this new guy is good -- this band just isn't the Chili Peppers I know and love anymore. Their sound is still good, I guess, but...

...I really can't stand this album

Dude! Storm in a Teacup is awesome. It's no Wet Sand of course, but still pretty cool. As a guitarist myself John (one of my favourite guitarists to imitate) leaving one of my favourite bands of all time makes me VERY sad. However, I am picking up the new album tomorrow so hopefully it blows my frickin' mind.

I won't pass too harsh a judgement, seeing that i've only listened to parts of it. But the sound and style seem way too smoothe. It seems like the grit and experimentalism of the old days are fading more and more. Now it all sounds like its been run trough the same sound-lab factory, where every finished product sounds more or less the same. Im sceptical.

I was really fucking high when I first listened to this album. At the start of Monarchy of Roses I was like "wtf is this" but as soon as that sick bass kicked in I knew I was onto a winner. This album is beastly and anyone that says otherwise doesn't appreciate RHCP for what they are.

I had no idea about all this. Sad the hear about John leaving, he has had some great side projects, so I guess he should be able to keep producing quality music, but I've always loved the chili peppers stuff and can only hope it continues to be awesome without him.

The single in the op didn't seem all that special, but maybe I'll change my mind after hearing it in the album.

I'll never understand why the first single they released was that one (Rain dance maggie whatever). After I heard that single I was very very skeptical of the album, which was very disappointing since I'm a huge huge RHCP fan. Having listened to it a few times, that single is far and away the worst song off the album, which is otherwise really good. Some songs are very different to any RHCP I've heard before (eg: Police Station), while most of the first half is vintage RHCP rock. 5-6 of the songs I'm really in love with.

Maybe it's partly because I came into it with low expectations, but I'm really grooving on most of the album.

Mmmm, yeah, I gotta say I wasn't really expecting anything great since John left, but this album did surprise me. It's got a fairly different style to their other music, a bit more bass driven now that John has left, but is still quite good. Gotta say though, favorite album by them is still Blood Sugar Sex Magik :D

I wouldn't say vintage RHCP, that for me is pre-MM. But it's definitely a great album, already on a ridiculously high play count :D

The band is far too repetitive to me. Every song sounds similar

I am a HUGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE fan of RHCP. Having said that, I enjoyed this album but the songs felt similar some how. Maybe because it is a new style and I'm not picking up on the nuances yet.

I've only sat down and listened to a couple of songs, the rest were in the background

Haven't listened to this yet but Frusciante was an amazing guitarist, so this guy has some big shoes to fill.

The only song I heard so far is Raindance Maggie and I wasn't a huge fan of it.

I quit RHCP with the depart of John. He was the core to the band, together with Flea. His solo stuff shows his greatness and it demonstrates why RHCP can't be on the same level anymore.

RHCP was the reason I ever picked up a bass. Regardless of if the band isn't whole, this is very much the same style we've all come to love or hate. Thus far it's on the top 3 albums of the year for me.

These guys were my first favorite band and the entire reason i started playing guitar. I still have the copy of By the Way my friend burned for me in 5th grade. Its amazing the range of music they have created over the past almost 30 years.

The straight funk of Hillel's playing on freaky styley and Uplift,

to the truly Rock and Roll playing of John on Mother's Milk and BSSM,

fuck dave narravo one hot minute was terrible,

But then John comes back from the brink of death and they put out possibly their most complete work with Californication. Follow up with the fantastic By The Way, and yea Stadium Arcadium is totally a piece that grows on you with time.

I haven't had time to really listen to the new album yet (stupid classes >.<) But I have faith that Josh will properly carry on what Hillel started so many years ago. Plus its really hard to mess up an album that Flea is playing bass on (again congrats dave narravo on managing to accomplish that)

He wasn't the core, Hillel was. John stepped in to fill the gap and he did so ridiculously well. John leaving doesn't mean it's the end, Josh is a beastly guitarist.

I'm rather disappointed with the new album... I think it is a little better than Stadium Arcadium. But not as good as 4 or so of the albums before it.

At a first listen, the album really sounded just bad to me. I didn't really enjoy any of it. But, it's definitely an album that has been constantly growing on me. I don't think it's their best album by a long shot, but it's actually quite good.

I like it quite a bit, but I can't help but wish John was still in the band. He was the perfect guitarist for them. But Josh does a damn good job and I did enjoy his work on this album. I watched their concert at the Roxy on Fuse last night and I think the new songs sound better live.
