lil wayne released the carter IV yesterday, and since there's no thread yet I decided to create one.
Personally I didn't expect much from the album since his last mixtape "Sorry for the wait" was his worst tape since a while. The mixtape wasn't bad though but when you compare it to drought 3, dedication 2 and no ceilings you cant help to notice that it's lyrically weak...And when you know that wayne's tape are so much better that his albums, you can hardly expect much for his next album.
But it's surprisingly good even if it's not as good as his mixtapes, the carter II or the carter III (imho),. The album has pretty good songs like "President Carter", "Blunt Blowing", "Mirror" (deluxe edition) etcetera. I also like "Novacane" (target exclusive track) but it's mainly because I had to slow down on the coke due to health (and money) so it it talks to me...
lol erm.. honestly wayne hasn't been good since like the leak. Carter 3 wasn't very good, no ceilings was ok but not great, ever since then he's been terrible. Listened to the album, wasn't expecting much, was pretty much as bad as i thought it would be. It's a shame because he used to be quite good.

Yeah but to be honest it's still better than a lot of the crap we can hear on the radio...With "I am still music tour" he doesn't spend has much time making tracks....I remember being a fan of wayne from 2006 to 2008, there was new tracks every weeks...Sadly it is over, but i still hope that the dedication 4 will mark the return of mixtape wayne though...
c4 is a classic. NUFF SAID. I'ts gonna sell 1,000,000 first week for sure. and i already know there's gonna be haters all over this thread but whatever. "You aint doin shit if you aint getting hated on." and ty HellKey for making this thread. Nice to see a fellow TLien into Wayne too. Tbh im one of his biggest fans. And for yall who have this pre image of lil wayne being just another "rapper" is just wrong. He really is a cool and interesting dude and makes great music and whoever thinks otherwise is just hater. Although i can understand if hip-hop just isnt your thing. We all got our different music. But Lil Wayne is good. and that's a fact. Hes got millions to prove it.
And whoever hasnt bought Tha Carter IV yet, go do it =] it's worth it.
Sales don't dictate skill, blackoni. Nas gets relatively few sales but is one of if not the greatest rapper of all time. Best track I've heard on the album was the Outro because of Nas, which didn't have Wayne on it at all. Admittedly I'm not a big fan of Lil Wayne, but the album really didn't do anything for me.
This album was by far his worst. Only one or two songs did it for me, Learn to Hate and John. After Sorry for the Wait I didn't expect much for this album, but it still disappointed.
In my personal opinion I loved Lil'Waynes' Carter 1 and 2 but I felt like he kept on slipping after every album he put out after those. I figured he was just going for the money and stopped caring about his lyrics so I slowly shunned him. Hopefully with the release of this album, which I have only heard a few songs from, will drag me back in.
This is such a shitty album. I and II were pretty damn good, III was alright and had a few good songs. This album is just complete shit. No relevance to anything important, complete bullshit lines. I'm 100 like a fastball? What the fuck? Horrible album and I really wish it had been better.
On August 30 2011 13:01 aphex1071 wrote: If you're listening to Lil Wayne for "the lyrics" then may god have mercy on your soul.
If you dont you obviously have no idea why lil wayne is (was ?) one of the best lyricist and probably never understood that poetry isnt just about pretty rimes & explicit messages...wayne has songs with really strong metaphors & similes...
You can think that wayne is just lollipop but he's way more than that... "Some of us are lovers, most of y'all haters But I put up a wall, and they just wallpaper"

Carter III had some fantastic lyrics. Just because his subject material is bitches, money and his ego doesn't mean he isn't an intelligent, funny and perceptive writer.

Dr. Carter is my all time favourite wayne song.
But i'd still put C2 & mixtapes above it
Fair call. I haven't listened to anything but C3 and some of C4. And I'm too lost in the mystery that is OFWGKTA too care about many other hiphop releases.

Look me all I'm so gangster in the ghetto rolling in my drugs and money. Oh look all these women and drugs this car goes pretty fast aswell. O man you can't fuck with this. Im so impressive look at me posture.
Yeah that is basically why I can't take rap seriously. Way to much of it is trash. I'm sure there is some good work like there is in all things but I can't be bothered to dig through a massive pile of garbage to find something worth my time to listen to.
I love Lil Wayne's style but I cant' believe people are praising his lyrics... If you guys think he's got quality lyrics then I feel sorry for you. You obviously are not knowledgeable about rap (no offense).

Please don't refer to wayne as "hip-hop". It's commercialized pop rap for white girls, just like Drake and Wiz Khalifa.

Big L says "Hi".
Lord Finesse, Kool Keith, All of Oakland (Pac, C-Bo, Mac Mall, etc.) Percee P, UGK and many more !!
Yes! These artists are the reason why I can't listen to today's rap.

You dont even know what rap means, it's rhythm and poetry, i you dont have knowledge about poetry you dont have knowledge about rap sorry dude...
The subject doesn't matter that much in poetry, the important part is how you do it...Baudelaire could have made a piece of art with a subject like water...

imo the only guys that play in the same league as wayne when he was in his tip top shape are nas jay-z & andre 3k.

yeah it's how you do it... and Lil wayne does it wrong. But go ahead, keep listening to shit, I won't stop you.
I have a feeling this is going to be a very volatile thread The rap hipsters against the world.
edit: Not saying that "rap hipsters" don't listen to good music, its just they tend to discount just about anyone seen as "commercial" without giving it a chance. Listen to Lil Wayne's songs that aren't on the radio if you want to give it a fair shake.
Wow I don't even know why I'm arguing... What lil wayne does, other rappers did it ten times better. How is it hard to understand? No disrespect to Lil wayne but people got to stop overrating him.
Never liked lil wayne, I think it is because of his voice since I know what I am getting into when it comes to mainstream rap. Though I like Keak Da Sneak, so... I can't explain it.

I've listened to all of the Carter albums, multiple mixtapes and a ton of other random tracks due to my friends. The Carter II was decent. Being commercial isn't what kills Lil Wayne, it's that he's an average lyricist who raps over annoying or generic beats and gets by because he has "swagger" than white teenage girls like - hence his sales.
And when millions blindly say he's the best rapper alive (because he says so) it's beyond absurd, given that most of them have never even heard of guys like Pharoahe Monch, Common, Canibus, etc... His "competition" in their eyes are the likes of Drake, Wiz Khalifa, Kanye, modern Jay-Z, etc...
It's like if millions of casual SC2 fans were to claim Idra is the best player in the world when they don't know who Nestea, MC, MVP, etc are.
Used to be a Lil wayne fan until after carter 3, he starting putting out crap that wasnt quality material. Personally, Im a huge Eminem fan and saying that Lilwayne is better then Eminem even in both thier primes, is rediculous. I guess im biased though, anyway lil wayne is trash now.

Lil wayne is no where near Eminem. Lil wayne in his "prime" doesn't even touch Eminem in his worst.

Eminem is God Tier.
^^^^ someone else who agrees with me, thank god there is more people then me out there that understand rap and starcraft XD
My favorite lil wayne song, 90% of people who like wayne haven't even listened to 'Tha Carter' and they missed out on the good wayne. Tha Carter 2 was sick also, but carter 3 wasn't that tight, neither were any of his mix tapes. I haven't listened to the new one but i definitely will dl that shiz
This album sounds more like his mixtapes than any other studio album. I think there's some good stuff on it, and I actually really like the singles off of it (more than some of the hits from C3). Obviously his mixtapes are good, but he's kind of evolving. "How To Love" is the first song that he "sings" on that is listenable, in fact, it's pretty damn good.
It's strange to me that people on this thread are talking about how bad Wayne is, and talking about the Rock music they like. First off, you're replying to a thread about a Hip Hop CD... if you don't like hip hop, your opinion on the album isn't really worth anything. Second, you're allowed to like more than one genre of music these days.

Yeah, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Lil Wayne > all or anything like that. Its just that he's going to get unnecessary hate he doesn't deserve for the sole reason that a lot of people think he's more popular than he should be. There's an argument to be made for that but i'm not touching it with a 10 foot pole. He's pretty darn good relative to what you hear on american top 40 on a weekly basis.

I don't think comparing IdrA to Lil Wayne is accurate because IdrA is good and lil wayne isn't.
Wayne's most clever lines ever, IMO ("Safe sex is great sex/So you better wear a latex/Cuz you don't want that late text/That "I think I'm late" text")
This album sounds so much like a rerun exercise, it really can't keep my attention too much. It's such a shame because he used to be a fresh wind but now it's just gone too stale for my tastes, like I've heard it all before.
Tech NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINE. (is the only reason I even care about this album). Strange Music!
but really, all the tracks I've listened to have been.... a pure bore. John (the song with Rick Ross) was pretty good until the actual rapping started. I just can't understand how the world came to a place where people like Lil Wayne would be pulling up people like Tech N9ne in terms of fame.
(actually, I know exactly why that happened, and it's perfectly reasonable, but it's still sad...)
i'm not gonna come into a lil wayne thread and rip on him lol. i dislike him but i gotta say he's got some catchy tracks with nice hooks. he's kinda like drake for me, more like a artist than an mc. nothing wrong with that tho.
wayne fucks up every song his featured in with his silly ass style. Its so annoying when the other artists on the track deliver some sick lines and then wayne comes in with "we are not the same, i am a martian" or some equally stupid shit.
I really want to like Lil' Wayne, ive read up a lot about him, love the fact that hes educated and likes to mix it up with rock music and loves tats etc.
However, as patient as i am, i keep getting let down when i hear his music.
I'll still keep some faith tho, and give this new stuff a try.

ahaaha I almost died laughing at that.
I miss the old wayne like this: at 2:40 (last person to rap)
PS: I know Drake is commercialized to hell and back now, but you can't say Drake isn't legit. He's marketable and talented unlike *cough* Soulja boy

Lil Wayne in his prime > Current Eminem. Current Eminem disgusts me.
Are you crazy? Lil Wayne can hardly speak... let alone be on the lyrical level of eminem...
And Lil Wayne absolutely cannot freestyle at all.. so for all i know he can't write either like p diddy and stuff gets written for him... so basically 0 talent, while eminem is 1 of the most talented in the industry and is a master at freestyle/battle as well.
Lil Wayne in his prime wasn't thay bad. He is awful at freestyle too, yes.
But my point was more to point out to the people who think current Eminem is "good" that I believe that they are complete tools that likely know nothing about good hiphop. Old Eminem was god tier, current is but a shell.
I refuse to be in denial, he doesn't show anything close to where he was in his peak in the Carter II era. It's just sort of sad to me to listen to Carter IV tracks and then listen to stuff like

OFWGKTA are kids who think they will save hip hop i guess they're better than your average modern rapper.
I listen to a lot of hip hop and Lil Wayne has always been a very poor rapper, and his albums are getting progressively worse. C2 is the only album I'd bear to listen really. Rebirth was so, SO bad I cried. Carter 4 is not much better. I expect this album to be forgotten just like lil wayne himself.

Bad meets evil might not be as good as some of his older stuff, but it's still 10 times better then anything lil wayne does...
Not to speak of the fact that lil wayne constantly bites lines of rappers better then him... which i kinda get the thought behind.. paying respect to them etc... but fact is most people buying his albums are clueless and don't catch that and think he has some deep lines... while all his stuff is either bitten or written for him.
This shit still sells? My god. What amuses me most is when semi-'intellectual' people listen to some incoherent mumbling of a coked out addict. Must be another messiah I'm telling you.
I like the way it sounds and the way the beat flows. Is there something wrong with that? I'm sure I could post something about your "oakland rappers" and "rappers that are better than lil wayne will ever be" but I unfortunatly have respect to what others listen to. Maybe you guys should get some instead of coming into a Lil'Wayne discussion and flaming him.
