"Gamers smell bad and dont have time for girls.." - Page 9
Forum Index > General Forum |
Congratulations on reaching this thread. In the rare event that you are in grandmasters league, have a scorching hot girlfriend, and somehow avoided the terrible stench of being a gamer, please refrain from telling us about it. The 10 pages of people informing us that they do, in fact, have sex should provide enough of a counterexample to any non-believers. Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

I don't think what she's saying is without some grain of truth. It's not true for every gamer but there is a disproportional number of people with bad hygiene who love video games. so there are hunderes of people sitting in a fairly small and confined room with temperatures that are probably quite high. your body will start sweating and no amount of deodorant will stop that.

When someones asks you which hobbies do you have, do you really answer 'gaming'? I lie about the fact that Im a gamer - I dont want to be pushed into the same nutshell as 'the stereotype gamer'. If I was playing a game and somebody asked me what I was up to I'd say "ah I'm playing [whatever game], what's up?" And actually most people act surprised when I say I game once in a while. I don't lie about it. My hobbies are: Gaming Playing/Practicing Bass and Guitar Socializing (partying and going to gigs w/ my band basically) If anybody has an issue with it they can take their issue up with themselves, not me. Because I'm not the one with a problem, they are.

I went to an interview for a top bank once and was asked what my hobbies are. Part of my answer was that I spend a lot of my free time playing games. I got the job. Turns out, the 55 year old manager played WoW for 5 years non-stop and actually knew about the Starcraft scene a bit and the rest of the group (the guys anyway), played games like CoD, TeamFortress2 etc ![]()

I've walked in on him playing WoW after hours at work when I've been working late. Usually I tell him his class is noob then run away. I haven't played since BC he's always trying to get me to reactivate.

This is basically founded on "common sense" though as we all know "the problem with common sense is that the common human being is an idiot"(George Carlin) I can't understand German, so I don't know what position this girl has in the German TV industry(if at all) and wouldn't exactly take her on as an expert on the matter. Who is she? Edit: and why should we care about her?

I don't think that this is true at all and it appears to me as if people blaming WoW are making the same mistake as the people responsible for this RTL clip. The stereotypical nerd had a horrible reputation and associated appearance since the inception of video games, possibly even before that, and you'll surely recognize that if you just make an effort thinking about it. What WoW has done is to bring gamers, or gaming in general more into the spotlight, because it probably is one of the most successful, both in market penetration and commercially, game of all time. The number of gamers has increased drastically. WoW encompasses people of many age groups & social backgrounds more than any other game. It is played by mothers & fathers. It also united all of these people under its name, despite of where they came from and enables them to uniformly be called "WoW gamers". It simply brought more attention and that's why (WoW) gamers are more noticable. That's probably a much more plausible explanation than simply saying "WoW players are the worst, they ruined the reputation of us real gamers. We are better than them! How dare they". The fact that several people of our own crowd, in a thread specifically pointing to bad stereotyping & criticizing it, would go out of their way to attack other gamers is telling & disappointing. Don't you see it?

Who is she? Shes a university student, who took a job as a hostesse at gamescom. Shes presenting some game together with other girls and maybe got 500 euros or smth like that from RTL to participate in their report. So shes no expert shes just the opposite kind of person to those hardcore gamers.

Well, I smell, but thats because my dog got sprayed by a skunk last week, not a lot I can do about it. "They dont have girlfriends" Nope, I sure don't. I haven't really tried too hard to get one though either, so...... "They are addicted to games and because of that dont care how they look" I probably am addicted to games, but that's not why I don't care how I look. I don't care because I'm not a shallow, vapid shell of a human being.

I take a 7-10 mile run every single day that I possibly can. I care about how I look. Here we can observe a typical nerd. From looking at flashy colors all day long a curios symptom develops. He can be observed lying down and rapidly, under moaning of exhaustion, sitting up again. This is called an epileptic seizure and this poor fellow has to endure it well over 100 times a day. Sitting in the basement for most of the day alienated him from the natural world around him, with the result of him showering two times a day and wasting our natural resources without even thinking about it. Sadly he doesn't know any better - in computer games the water never goes away. After a long day confined in his basement the angry nerd, full of frustration from losing too many games, goes outside. Angrily he stomps mother nature for a good 7-10 miles to let go of his tension, knowing he wastes his life away with computer games.
