Rick Perry basically filibustering through that question, holy shit.
Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul fighting!
But seriously, I'm taking notes on this for a paper, and I can't believe how many times I've written their answers then realized they had nothing to do with the question. But I do like Newt and Ron. ^.^

How the hell was he even elected as a Governor? That's my question.
I didn't vote for him. Though, to be fair, Governors in Texas have very little power. The Lieutenant Governor is actually widely regarded to have more of an impact in Texas affairs than the Governor.
This debate is yet another hilarious example of a bunch of liberals moderating a republican debate. Maria Bartiromo in particular has been absolutely atrocious.

I thought it was common knowledge that questioning politicians went something like this:
Questioner: Asks question. Politician: Well that is a very good question, [insert generic dodge], [insert whatever the **** the politician actually wants to say, that more often than not, is completely irrelevant to the question.]
Herman Cain - How to restore faith in markets for little guy? By restoring faith in business; volatility is being driven by uncertainty; grow the economy; almost mentions 9/9/9. Have to provide certainty--avoiding question.
Seriously, he answered every question with 9/9/9, ffs.
@xDaunt : I've been hella busy for the past few weeks and haven't been following this at all. Who seems to be the GOP frontrunner now? You can answer this after the debate of course.
Cain has been the front runner for several weeks. Romney still stuck in second. Gingrich is climbing the polls.
Intrade still favors Romney, and his price increased while Cain's fell due to a) the harassment allegations b) him not really helping himself with the pressers on that. For whatever you think those markets are worth.
Cain: "The 999 plan is the solution to everything" strategy is getting a little stale. Cain's going to need a develop a little more depth. I did like the Princess Nancy remark -- especially because it was off-color and grossly inappropriate given the current allegations against him. The guy has balls.
Romney: Another technically superb debate performance. No mistakes, and a few exemplary answers -- especially when he dismantled the loaded question about Romney's position on the auto industry bailout.
Gingrich: Gingrich was masterful tonight. I really enjoyed watching him tear apart the stupid moderators. If he keeps having performances like this one, he's going to continue to draw more support.
Paul: Very nice debate performance. Paul does well on these economic issues.
Perry: wtf? You can't even name the three federal agencies that you want to eliminate?
Huntsman: Huntsman had a pulse tonight! He came out looking very good during the first 30 mins. He looked focused and polished. However, he unraveled as the debate rolled along and lapsed into vintage Huntsman form. Apparently there were some topics that he didn't prep very well for.
Bachmann: Yawn.
Santorum: At least once in every debate, this guy throws out an answer that goes like this: "Why is no one supporting me? I have had all of these great ideas since 1992!" I think the answer is that people get that Santorum is kind of an asshole. However, he apparently took his medicine before this debate and didn't go after anyone like he typically does.
The moderators: This was easily the worst moderated debate so far. The questions were rambling and outright hostile. And what the fuck was with Kramer suggesting that corporate profits and job creation are mutually exclusive? He, of all people up there, should know better. This is CNBC, FFS. As for Bartiromo ... all that I am going to say is that she needs to be put out to pasture. That said, I laughed when it looked like she was going to cry after the audience booed her for bringing up the sexual harassment issue. What a cunt.

Well, I think these last set of debates have been particularly bad. I think Perry outright said in the CNN debate, when Cooper tried to get an on topic answer "No, you get to ask the question and I'll answer it however I want." Politicians are pretty good at dodging questions but these guys aren't even trying.
I played our last Canadian election debate immediately after a live primary debate and the contrast was stark. Oh they dodged questions alright, but they at least pretended and sometimes more then pretended.

Honestly, I think it's up in the air. Romney hasn't moved an inch for 9 months. Cain is hanging in there despite the sexual harassment allegations. Interestingly, it looks like Gingrich might be getting ready to take off in the polls. I expect a significant bump in his numbers after tonight.
Gingrich over Romney doesn't make sense to me. Isn't the main problem with Romney is that he is the establishment guy? How much more establishment can you get then Gingrich? (Except maybe Gingerich doesn't have the too-slick-for-his-own-good feel.)

They're both establishment republicans. The difference is that Gingrich has more conservative conviction than Romney does.

Really?
Gingrich has no conservative conviction. Furthermore, it was in a few debates ago he even admitted freely that he was for an individual mandate (and has said it is our duty to pay for Nationalized healthcare), and he has appeared numerous times with Nancy Pelosi in support of carbon taxes and other schemes. I could go on and on down the list. The man is a complete and total fraud.
