Been writing for about 8 years, stuff on my soundcloud is a bit old, got a few releases. Nice thing you have going here, I produce psytrance http://soundcloud.com/terrorbyte , would be nice to also get VST guides/demos in this thread. Do you have a lot of experience with DJing psy-trance? I really want to start to DJ psy-trance/ambient and perhaps some other electronic genres. But i have no knowledge nor piror experience. Do you think i should start doing it on my computer? And if i buy decks + mixer that wont sound really shitty, how much will it set me back (used or new)? Also what are your tips on beatmatching and so forth. Are there any good guides to getting started in those genres? Peace

Other than that, I've been noobing around with Virtual DJ and a Reloop midi-controller. The controller is pretty shitty though, so every time I want to make a mix I get discouraged. Hopefully I can look past that and start to make some mixes. I'm going to try and get some gigs at other clubs as well. GLHF to my fellow DJ's!

Some good tutorials/forums for beginner/intermediate level? Or should I just experiment and see what I come up with? Mostly interested in making downtempo/mellow hip-hop beats. Cheers I spent several months learning and getting comfortable on FL only to wish I had initially invested all that time learning and getting comfortable with Ableton. Just a heads up; I feel you can do much more with Ableton, and the interface is far better suited for complex automation. Youtube is your friend. Start by watching introductory videos that give you a tour of the interface. Once you get comfortable with the interface you can start learning how to make beats, and from there, synths.

I was planning on purchasing FL in a bit but other than that I'd also appreciate some advice on equipment and such for beginners. Also, would most of you recommend Ableton over FL? What are you going to produce ? How do you plan to produce (I mean, do you prefer to turn your ideas into music, or experiment with sounds on the fly) Watch this - It shows when Ableton is better. Other than that, there's successful people for every sequencer, and no sequencer is better than any other - it all depends on the way you do your work. The same goes for hardware equipment, no-one can really help you if you don't specify your needs as a producer ![]()
