I've heard tons of rumors, tell me if it's true but apparently Rebecca Black will be casting GSL Code A matches. She has a 12 month contract with GOM and her manager said "TeamLiquid is by far the biggest audience of Rebecca Black, whe had to get her in the E-Sports business"

auto tune, welcome to 2011
MY generation gets to look back to the 70's 60's 50's great classic masterpiece works of art from the Beatles's, the doors, the who, Frank Sinatra, classic works of art. In 20 years will people really look back at all this utter crap "produced"(half assed) and have 10million rebecca black posters on their college dorm room's?
I really doubt she will last. The majority of her views have only been generated because of how bad it is. But there's no such thing as bad publicity. So you can guarantee that somebody or some company out there will be trying to exploit her for $$.
It's easy to see certain bands active in the last 20 years being held up on a pedestal in the future the same way people idolize 70s rock. Some already are right now. There was also a load of shit music back then too. We don't hear about it anymore. Old people chose to ignore it in favor of the legendary groups.
I do find it kind of funny that k-pop is incredibly popular on tl while the majority of people seem to hate rebecca black. I mean, it's not like k-pop has lyrical meaning, singing talent, or a lack of auto-tune.

(And yes, the video is awwwful)
Most k-pop artists are freakin hot and when you don't know korean the lyrics can't really bug you ^^

Showing that 6pools can be just as effective as standard builds, even in the music industry.

But otherwise you have a point, sir.
K-pop stars have other talents that elevate them in my eyes - they actually dance while they sing, which is much harder than they make it seem. Also, IMO, their songs are catchier and I don't hear a friggin' autotune throughout their songs.

Sadly, most of my non-StarCraft buddies put K-pop on the same level as Justin Bieber and Rebecca Black. They use the old defense that it is killing good music.
Korean pop singers are probably WORSE at singing than rebecca black, based on the few live performances I've had to suffer while watching PL finals or MSL finals and etc (two years ago, PL finals, live performances. Were a large part of why I stopped watching SC live. I lost most of my sanity from the hideously AWFUL performance by some female singer whose name I've very thankfully forgotten. And it wasn't just me, even fans of k-pop were commenting that she couldn't hit a single note and that it was painful to listen to).
Justin Bieber I would actually consider on a higher level artistically because he writes his own songs. Are they insipid and pointless? Yes, but he's like... 10. Making music for other 10 year olds. Korean-pop honestly sounds like 18 year olds singing kidz bopp.
They are more talented at dancing, old enough that it's not creepy that they have sex appeal, and a few other rather notable difference. Their korean lyrics are probably somewhat better (how could they be worse...). I don't think there's anything wrong with liking korean pop, it's just rather hypocritical of TL to criticize Black for things that are even more true of K-pop.
It's not exactly like they're always using autotune, but there's no way that they aren't lipsynching the majority of the time. Their music is even more formulaic than Black's (where is the old guy rapping about changing lanes in gg baby baby ?? It needs to happen).
edit : K-pop is mostly good for watching them dance with the sound muted. They really are usually quite hot, which isn't true of Black. But that could just be my opinion because i dunno, i'm 21 and not 13.

Kpop isn't all about idols in mass group dancing and singing bad catchy songs. That's like generalizing american pop song history to justin bieber. But its a fair generalization I guess since current trend seems to be mostly all about the idols. And I agree with nevuk 100% in that regard. Koreans themselves are aware of the oversaturation of idol types and that speaks volumes imo. Since we tend to blindly pursue trends instead of pausing for moment to think if this is too much.
2 things I wanna add:
While it is fair to say they don't always use autotuning, they're defintely guilty of overusing it. It doesn't always sound like tpain, bu its there, for those who can't sing and hit notes. Secondly, not understanding koren isn't gonna save your brain hemoraghing from english gibberish they insert to sound cool and exotic. I get the best (worst) of both worlds. Enjoying the korean and english lyrics in it fullest glory. Yay.
