For the sake of mankind, I seriously hope you do, I know I will try, but I also fear I will fail horribly considering I've been raised in a society where nobody gives a damn about anyone but himself, and where going against the current only means the rejection of everything you know, and even though it's possible, god damn it's hard.

At the end of the day, that image is cliched fiction, no matter how you try to spin it. You're right, the OP doesn't explicitly state that there should be only real-life pictures in this thread. In fact, I think he even mentions something along the lines of being open to more "artistic" images. However, I believe somewhere he does state "photographs" and the thread took off with that in mind. The beginning of this thread is great but it eventually gets derailed by trivial nonsense such as the image I mention. A picture of fictional characters struggling in their fictional world with their own fictional choices is weak considering the abundance of powerful, real-world images here. With no sarcasm or animosity at all, I can say I'm glad that picture had an impact on you; but compared to the other images here that abundantly suggest this thread should stay on more "real-world" subject matter, the Batman image is weak. EDIT: Typo.

It's still not a Vietcong prisoner, it's a peasant farmer. I have been at the very location he was shot at and the museum where they have his whole family tree on display: The guy was shot without any trial on an open street, that's why it's iconic: He was the Gutamano bay version of the vietnam war. i watched the clip of him getting executed in history class in grade 10, wasn't a pretty sight. First time I saw that photo, I thought he was crying, only later when I saw the full series, did I understand that his face is contorted by the air expelled by the gun before the bullet exits the barrel. It's an amazing photo and really captures what was going on in Vietnam. Just to clarify; he was a Vietcong member (his wife confirms his affiliation) who was found by the dead bodies of some South Vietnamese policemen in Saigon. The authorities were enraged and shot him on the street without confirming his involvement in their death or actual status as Vietcong. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nguyen_Van_Lem
