You're on a hill. There's clouds above you. The trees all died because of a forest fire or something. The shadow cast only covers the hill you're on, but ahead of you is the desert that's blazing hot and orange.
At least that's how I interpreted it.

i'm also interested to know the story behind that picture with the man and boy with syringes in their mouths. that just looks seriously messed up.

I am not a particularly timid person, I have seen graphic violence before. Funny, the photo on page number one of the Chinese guys who are about to be buried alive made me sick to my stomach; I don't even want tto think about it.
