Sucky for WC3, mTw and for the undead race. This guy was a rising star with plenty of potential.
It's not really a big deal, I just got bored of the game after ESWC. This has nothing to do with the new patch, or any problems really, if anyone is wondering. Plus, this year's schoolwork is heavier and piles upon the college application process," Aether says.

Better to retire as a king, than quit as a n00b

Seemed like a cool guy. I met him @ NY/NJ WCG. The one thing that surprised me was how supportive his parents were of his gaming. There were there, cheering him on, talking to him between games. I don't know two much about the WC3 scene, but he seemed like a big-time player.

who fucking cares about w3 >>

His achievements are listed on the site, he was good, but imo more importantly a growing player with potential. His skills against Human were very strong! mTw will miss him bigtime.
He looks Asian, so something tells me he has Asian parents. That must explain the full support :D

I find it somewhat arrogant and ridiculous when someone announces their "Retirement" from gaming. I'm sorry i just do..
|
Never even heard about him, but well ... if it's bad for the wc3 community I feel pretty bad about it.

Heh, if Boxer quit I'd like to know.
Same if anyone I know would quit or if some prominent player quits.. Instead of wondering where did they go etc. Reduces threads with that theme too~~

It's a good point, but you got to realise that WC3 is a BIG THING and certain gamers are tiny celebrities with fanboys who would really want to know such a thing. That and sites want to cover such stuff, people like to be heard, etc etc!

No it is a horrible point

Unless it's a huge name progamer, such as Boxer, then announcing a "retirement" is pretty dumb.

starhunter retired too many times hahaa...........

aether was good, even if i dont follow w3 now, its sad when good players who have provided me such a good moments through replays retire
gl Aether

aether is posting here, right? maybe he just realized wc3 was boring when he heard ppl talk about bw. =)
and i don't think it's silly to announce when you retire from gaming as long as there are ppl who care (which is definately the case here).

Because of the unimportance of people to the game. If one guy who has absolutely no accomplishments announces his retirement from a game, it's pretty stupid.

Wait.. One second ago you said huge progamer name like boxer now you say if the person has any accomplishments it is okay..?
Drone isn't a huge name (compared to boxer), would you care if he quit?

He has plenty of accomplishments & fans, he's a member of one of the best teams out there (They won WC3L last season)
That and a person doesnt need accomplishments to be a big shot in a gaming community ...

I said, "if a guy has absolutely no accomplishments... it'd be stupid." That's not the same as saying a guy who has any accomplishments can announce a retirement.
I wouldn't care in the least if Drone stopped playing BW.
EDIT: Bey, in case there was confusion, I wasn't saying this guy shouldn't have announced his retirement, as I don't follow the WC3 community.

Because mediocre players are "retiring" all the time.
|
|
pretty crappy for mTw .... wizard leaves and plays for SK.int, now aether gives up playing, the only foreign guy they have left is ghostridah and that guy suxx like hell ...
|
i'm like 0-5 vs ghostridah, I guess I should just announce my retirement since I really suck =[
|
Aether is not mediocre.
Him retiring should definitely be recognized. Also, wcreplays.com had been doing article series with him for a time, even more the reason to announce his retirement.
|
i posted about this like 6 days ago in an obscure post on the MaDFroG thread.. no one noticed ^^
Anyway.. most top american players agree this game is dying. And a lot of people are quitting too, Aether [...]
Poor Aether..does he still post here under requiem?
|
Aether is one of if not the best player in the US. He climbed the wc3 ladder quickly, but he's a senior now and the college process is taking up a lot of his time.
I asked him the other day if he'd go back to wc3 when he's done with high school [me and him go to the same school] and he said he wasn't sure. It's not a no so for all you Aether fans cross your fingers.

heh, i didn't want to post anything about it, but my manager rax informed kidarctica (the person who runs the news on wcreplays.com) and then she pretty much got some statements outta me. they reasoned that there might me people asking questions about where i disappeared off to all the time, so i thought alright i'll confirm it for them then.

I'm pretty sure he's Chinese. That was also what kept him from going to WCG USA finals since he doesn't have US citizenship.

man i guess that sux for wc3 o well BW for life!

agreed gl dude. btw i loved "ask aether"
and for anyone who doesnt know, very big player, not in korea. but id say he's top10 non-korea in terms of warcraft. thats achievement enough, seeing that korea doesnt have the monopoly on gosu's when it comes to warcraft : ) .
