It was quite the day (i live in caboolture and work @ west end brisbane) It took roughly 10 - 11hrs to make it out of the city back to my house once we got the message to GTFO of west end with flash flooding cutting all roads / transport back to my place and with brisbane river expecting to peak thursday my place of work is expecting take considerable flood dmg (right on the brisbane river)

All things considered i've come away without any major problems cept i'll be working from home for a little while!

definitely feel for those who have lost houses / vehicles / family

I don't care about Australia. They are countries that suffer far more yet people don't give a shit.

You decide what to care about based on what other people care or not care about? Just, wow.

No. I just care about countries that don't have the money or the means to help themselves. Australia has the money.

lol! Yes. Yes we do. I grew up in the town that got flash flooded, and it's amazing how normal a name like Toowoomba can become when you live there. I've gone to visit other places like... I don't know... Giligulgul, for example, and gone "lol what a stupid name," and then actually thought about it and been like "...wait."

On topic, I'm on high ground in Brisbane, and it's kind of surreal right now. All of a sudden it's sunny and hot as anything. It makes some internal sense to freak out about a flood when it's raining like mad, but when it's sunny it's hard not to think "what's the big deal? It'll all dry up before it gets here, right?"

Rofl, shows what I know of Australia. I emailed my cousin, (who moved down under with her fiance), to make sure she was alright.

Apparently she lives like 1500 miles away in Darwin or something and so is in no real danger. Huzzah!

Still, best wishes to anyone threatened by the storms, T_T

All the money in the world isn't going to reduce the death toll, show some sensitivity ffs.

Not good that it's sunny now, it means mosquitoes are going to be a huge problem especially if people are left without shelter. There have been some pretty horrific stories so far we can only hope that their prediction of higher waters later in the week don't eventuate.

Wow, I have 3 family members missing and possibly dead at the moment. Its ok though because as a country we have money...

So I've spent the whole morning on the telephone to friends and family. So far, the suburb where my friends and family live (Jindalee) is almost completely under water.

My parents house is gone...submerged all the way to the roof. My family managed to get out in time, and have spent the day in the boats getting neighbors and whatnot to higher ground.

1 of my school friends has already had his 2 story house go under. They got him and his family out in boats this morning.

Paddington is looking fine for now. Although we've been told to be prepared to leave. I went for a walk this morning to see how close to the river I could get. Got half way down Suncorp Stadium. (Castlemain Street)

Milton Rd, and Coro Av must be completely under water.

My thoughts are with everyone in Brisbane. Please stay safe! And keep your radio's on!

I'm curious if this is getting any coverage in other countries. On the one hand it's not at the scale of the flooding in the Philippines, or any of the huge natural disasters like Haiti in the last few years, but it's still pretty big. Some of the stuff that went through the Lockyer was just insane.

Also if anyone's associated with the uni in St Lucia, don't even try it.

Media in other countries usually briefly touch upon it for maybe 3 or 4 days, then forget about it. Anybody remember Pakistan flood last summer? That right, nobody talks about it anymore. Sometimes I wonder if all the water even receded. I presume same thing will happen to Australia. Once the rain stops and rebuilding, which is the toughest part, begins, people from other countries just go "Well, the worst is over, they'll rebuild themselves somehow sometime in the future." and just forget about it.
For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
