Keep debates civil. |
As much as i dislike NdT i think he is right in this particular case.
NdT is verry often wrong, and then when confronted he tries to laugh it away and make his opponent look rediculous with some childish remarks. There is one video i saw from him where he lead an open discussion with various scientists where he critisised some ideas they had in a realy dumb and childish way, wich completely turned me off. I realy hope people are not seeing him as an authority on physics or annything important lol.

He's kind of right but kind of wrong as well. He talks about Columbus and traders of the New World, but both are incorrect examples. The question is, who built Columbus's ship to get him across the Atlantic? Firms like SpaceX are like those shipbuilders. SpaceX will build the ship that gets Columbus to Mars. All the investment and profit SpaceX needs comes from the government; there is no need for SpaceX to find revenue sources "out in the blackness of space".
Ironically he said all these things but did not relate them to each other.
In terms of actual free enterprise, maybe 1000 years from now when we actually will need to harvest resources from space.

Wow. Iron Man brought to life. I think as he said that they are on the verge of a breakthrough; not there yet. Right now, it looks like to be a huge improvement in viewing different CAD files; not sure how they are going to manipulate and create parts/assemblies. But they are on the right track. Can't wait until they have a breakthrough and the software tunnels down into the smaller engineering firms.

OK this might be offtopic, but i did not want to make another thread.
Since NASA website is shutdown, i'd like to ask, if anyone knows what's that about?

aliens!, pls aliens ... or, they might try and force a hand or two to get some funding
|
^ This is the first time I've heard of it despite reading the news daily... Is it even legit? I mean, it could be a massive troll attempt or something. It seems weird to me that NASA, upon making a momentous discovery, would wait and announce a date to announce it, although I don't claim to be an expert or even knowledgeable about that. Maybe they're spending time verifying their information!
On a separate note, NASA is "closed down" at the moment so will it still go through? O.O One day left, I'm still excited though!

Definitely Aliens.
Fundies are gonna poop their pants! Can't wait.

Hope it isn't something stupid being overhyped.
Any confirmation of it actually being Nasa?
|
My bet is that they have found reasonable evidence of biological footprint in mars. One guy already slipped and commented on an historical discovery a few months back but it was quickly dismissed, so this might be the followup.
A man can hope.

I see no reason to believe it is. Sounds like random rumour mongering 12 year olds do when they are bored.
It's interesting how many people are falling for it in the thread though.

ue to change in plans, we will announce this discovery earlier than previously expected. Tune in on October 6th to see what everyone is talking about. - See more at: http://www.rememberthe13th.com
Looks like its happening earlier than expected.

I hope it's alien life, but it would suck if it was just a habitable planet.
*Edit*
I hope it's a freakin' huge Martian alien skeleton, and it looks fuckin' mean. Like Phyraxian mean.

Not a legit news source but they make a very good point why that website is probably shit.
A new website called RememberThe13th.com is claiming to be an announcement from NASA that on November 13, 2013, NASA will announce a ‘Major Discovery’ that will ‘Shake the World’. The interesting thing about this ‘announcement is that the site is not on NASA’s servers, which are offline due to the historic government shutdown, now in it’s third day. The domain, RememberThe13th.com, according to DomainTools.com, has a Creation date: 01 Oct 2013 16:16:00 [1]
In NASA’s history of warnings, this one coming from namecheap.com appears to be the ultimate prank that will be difficult for NASA to refute given that their site NASA.gov is currently offline. Whether this is criminal fraud in causing alarm to potentially millions of people, remains to be seen. Its possible that desperate people are doing desperate things to attract attention and dupe people into some kind of commerce. ... Ask yourself, “Would NASA make an announcement of historic proportions and ask the world to wait until November 13, 2013?”

I have a feeling that that adorable website going up while NASA is shut down isn't just a coincidence. Someone is just trying to pull something.

Anyone who thinks that website is real should be slapped for their idiocy.
