Just a few of the best songs from that concert. But really if you have the time and ability, watch the whole show. It was an amazing collaboration of musicians (Including people like Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, and Tom Waits) that culminated into possibly one of the best shows performed by an artist who I wish could have sang for us forever. p.s. In trying to find an appropriate thread, I came across this one. I hope this is an okay revival.

Heres one that blows my mind from a compositional point of view. The significance of this one is that it uses chromatic chord changes in an era of songwriting where they werent used very often. This type of writing would later be a big part of John Lennons sound and writing style on the White album etc. People always talk about breaking the "rules" of music... this is a great example of how the rules can be broken without turning your song into an atonal pile of garbage, and actually propelling it forward and making it stand out. The chromatic chord appears on the word "everybody", temporarily hinting at a transient key change, then quickly changes back to normal tonality immediately afterwards, preventing the songs harmony from sounding formless and atonal by obscuring the original key, which is a mistake made almost always in modern second rate writing. Here, John Lennon makes it seem effortless and natural.

The Beatles have so many great songs from that era that are often overlooked in favor of their later works (which are also awesome). All My Loving is another great song from the same album. Really? I feel that, at least for the average person, their early works are generally much more recognized. It's probably true for the ones ones who really like 60's music though. Anyway, 1960-1979 (in particular 1965-1975) is über alles when it comes to music. Probably the two most underrated Beatles songs, though I guess it's hard to call anything they have done underrated. From Sweden's best and most overlooked album ever. Greatest song of all time.

Though as you say, that's probably from people who don't like 60's music anyway. =) More country for the man from Australia! From the era of fucking bright suits: ^I can't help but smile listening to this... ^got some white noise unfortunately, but awesome anyway. ^Mr Jobangles y'all And for some good times/new genre introduction to the oldies thread:
