I'll start: I yoyo, unicycle, and origami (paper folding)
Yoyoing is a pretty big sport these days, there is a yearly world competition with 5 different divisions, with people from all over the world coming to compete.
The division are: 1a: this is one yoyo, doing tricks based on landing the yoyo on the string + Show Spoiler +
4a: this is one yoyo, but it isn't attached to the string + Show Spoiler +
5a: one yoyo, but instead of the string being attached to your finger, it's attached to a counterweight + Show Spoiler +
I do mostly 1a (not nearly as good as the video though), but I've dabbled in 5a and 2a.
Unicycles I'm still learning, right now I can only go forward, and turn. I'm learning to idle (stay in place) and ride backwards, but I'm not very good yet.
Origami is the art of paper folding, at first it might not seem that great...until you find something incredibly complex, such as this clock from one (very large) sheet of paper:
I've been folding for 7 years now, and am just starting to get into designing models. My best one to date is a person with all five fingers on both hands (don't have a picture though )

So, TL, what are your hobbies?
wow, the guy in the first vid totally looks like a teen/twen version of mark sloan from grey´s anatomy. oO
my hobbies?
starcraft, table tennis, procrastination. rather sad somehow.
i would say working out counts as a hobby, I'd call it one of mine at least although I have been too poor for a gym membership for some time now
one of my hobbies is watching anime, which sounds really lame but I was pretty intense about it and have learned a whole ton of japanese as a result, now studying some of it at university
holy crap, the yoyo thing with it not attached to the string is the sickest thing i have ever seen.
to anwser question, along with SC2, i play LoL and Minecraft as less frequent things, i play the Trumpet, bowl, tennis, and very limited access to, but well practice, moves to Pen Spinning.
Haha I'm glad someone posted some touhou screenshots. Good stuff, can impress people while playing even though it's not as hard as it looks (some are...). FFR and Stepmania are also good to impress people.
Well, I also like doodling in my notebook in class...
But I guess my favorite hobby is table tennis. It's a shame I can't play a lot in college (no people, terrible equipment).
Juggling (Haven't done for a while) Competitive Yu-Gi-Oh! (I'm one of the best in the world, unofficially ) Super Smash Bros. Melee (Best fighter ever)
Guess that's about it. I play video games, used to read a fair bit. I can juggle 5 balls.

Origami, but I haven't gotten to designing my own models yet haha
Yeah, designing origami models is hard. If you want to learn, i recommend the book "Origami Design Secrets: Mathematical Methods for an Ancient Art" by Robert Lang. It's a textbook sized book that teaches you everything you'll ever need to know to design your own models.
i spend 90% of my life with my gf. other 10% goes to tennis and paintballing and school. oh yeah, my gf and i play sc2 together so the 90% includes sc2 as well
hrm...some of my hobbies include: 1. reading up on history 2. playing pool (but i don't have my own pool table =( ) 3. playing guitar 4. playing saxophone (alto and bari, always wanted to play tenor, though)
Starcraft, Guitar, Digital Art. That's pretty much it. EDIT: I do know how to play two other instruments, but I have recently been out of practice (for almost a year now T_T) so I don't really consider it a hobby, at least for now. And I also play some tennis.
Starcraft, Super Smash Brothers Melee, Bzflag, Magic the Gathering (highest rated in vermont, wooo!) Ultimate Frisbee and jazz piano all competitively/seriously. Ping pong, basketball, biking, fencing, tennis and soccer all more casually. I also have an unhealthy addiction to reading fantasy novels. God I have way too many hobbies, I think I need a girl in my life.
This translates into putting a lot of time into work (which is interesting to me), reading wiki/news/literature religiously, attending random events (like lectures, festivals, etc), and meeting new people of diverse backgrounds.
Reading Starcraft (duh ) Chess (I play in official USCF tournaments and participate in many chess clubs) Pokemon Surfing Teamliquid.net (Of Course ) Considering making writing my new hobby and probably a future career. Having various fun with dogs Participating in my local 4-H and Boy Scouts edit: Singing(how did I forget?) edit2: lucid dreaming since I was born overall sleeping(10 hours a day! )
i think the less hobies you have the better because the more time u have to spend on something that can generate you money..... that;s what life is about. my hobbies: soccer reading, this goes with school i guess, i like going to school. i think it as a hobby starcraft2( havent played for 2 weeks, trying to quit ) Teamliquid= such a nice community!!! love it!
drawing, writing, chess, listening to 70's jpop music (Pink Lady, Momoe Yamaguchi, Candies), casual programing with a language called liberty basic (think visual basic but more dumbed down).
I used to be a workout freak but kinda slowed down.
Top computer games I'm currently playing are SC2, Minecraft and Civ4 (can't wait for Civ5 in a month).
Currently I have this weird hobby where I design 1 player boardgames with excel.
Playing Piano Playing SC Playing QL (no more becouse it doesnt work after beta but i still love it) Gym Fushall Cinema : ) Smiling all day long Reading TL forum
hm. I always enjoy reading threads of this nature, because I sometimes question what hobbies I have myself. Aside from the freebie of video games which I'm sure everyone on this board enjoys haha. Perhaps I can steal a hobby or two off some of the kind posters in this thread, though the first four pages have proved fruitless so far.
on topic, I enjoy video games and getting high sometimes I work out too, but I'm pretty impartial to it as a "hobby" oh and don't get my started about how much I love sleeping.
SC1(need new comp for SC2) Music listening(metal, orchestral, classical, chillout) Salsa dancing Game programing(currently on-hold) Piano playing(don't own a piano so it's kind of rare) Watching TV-series Drinking Reading(occasionally) Planning to learn/improve : spanish, snowboard, some martial art(aikido?)
Swimming, working out, snowboarding and I just started learning kiting. And I try to play guitar but I get more frustrated then ever :p And drinking sadly
Super Smash Bros + Magic TG Online +Futbol + sex (dunno if its a hobbie, but is fun for me, and helps killing the boredom.) + watching vods + movies + going to the movies with my gf
1. Video games - used to be WoW, now is SC. Finally decided to try my hand at the noob-friendly SCII after spending 3 years in awe of the Korean progamers and wondering why my units in BW never behaved like theirs.
2. Music - Piano is my primary, currently trying to learn the Tempest by Beethoven, a Chopin polonaise and looking for a Shostakovich prelude&fugue to do. Also do orchestral work as percussion and choir.
Piano Playing Super Smash Bros. brawl/melee with friends reading anime/manga playing video games and sometimes practicing parkour with friends solving rubiks cube and programing is always fun aswell =D
Especially science publication (math, physic, technology, some biology even if i lack the background needed to understand everything).
I also love the game of nations, to my eyes it looks like a carpet, every nation being a thread and if you pull it then the pattern around it begins to shift. If you want to understand a little how it works you have to read a lot, from many different sources/countries, to never trust what you read, etc etc. It has no practical use (aside from destroying every shred of faith in humanity one could have) BUT it is the most interesting show mankind will ever do.
Wish I played more SC competitively but alas no time =( Major soccer player Major volleyball player minor basketball player minor wow player I can solve rubix kewb Ive played some futsal now and again its alotta fun
Starcraft Magic: the gathering (competitively hell yeah) Touhou (I've only started playing these in the past few weeks... I can beat Touhou 8 on medium without using continues, but I have troubles playing 11 at all) Rock Band (gold star pretty much everything on drums aside from death metal dlc) real drums :3
i've been working on picking up some new hobbies this last year. So far I've started learning to fence foil, gotten an A license in sky diving, and just recently started learning to sail. Those, and some attempt at working out.
-Watching comedy (scrubs, always sunny in philly, weeds) -Finance (fuck bitches get money) -Theorycrafting everything under the sun -SC2 -Madden -Drinking -Snowboarding -Gym -Soccer (Football) -Jet skiing -Smoking weed -Partying -Sex (Don't be a fool...wrap your tool...for real...) -Hanging with friends
I used to speedsolve rubik's cubes - wasn't as good as the competition guys though (at best in the low 30s), now I fail and can only solve in under a minute. Working out is somewhat a hobby now (I guess), but yeah, I need more.
Probably just travelling is the thing I enjoy the most. I'm not so much interested in people as in seeing places and experiencing stuff. Otherwise all kinds of music, creating and listening. Sex goes without saying I guess..

1) Starcraft (of course) 2) Pokemon occasionally (it never seems to get old no matter how many times you play it; however, I do stop at Emerald) 3) Drumming (not drum set, more marching and rudimental) 4) This bitchin iTouch app called Age of Conquest
I play guitar, ukulele and banjo. Play a lot of Starcraft II. Languages, doing French right now and will probably start Korean or German in about 3 months when my French gets to the level of just having to watch films/read books and talk to people.
No stargazers out there? :O That's my telescope and I have 25mm and 10mm eye pieces. Can see the moon very very very well, and I have yet to see any planets because of my shitty living area.
I actually got into this sport by playing Jet Set Radio Future, lol, and have been skating ever since.
-Music, mostly to set me in a good daring mood when doing ^, or just because I've been able to find so much music lately that has been capable of relating to various experiences I've gone through. Some feelings I am unable to put into words some artists/djs can draw on their canvas so precisely and I find that power putting me in awe every time. (e.g. Nujabes, r.i.p.)
-Competitive-ish gaming; or maybe it's just an obsession I have with being good at the hobbies I pick up. I cannot be satisfied with just being average or considered good amongst my buddies when I know that the world is so much bigger outside of my direct neighborhood. So I don't even bother playing games anymore that don't have large competitive scenes centered around them. For these reasons, I play SSF4 and SC2 (and a bit of TF2) pretty much exclusively.
-Dancing/Parkour I've dabbled with but would get into if I had more time on my hands!
-Learning Japanese; though I don't know if this can be qualified as a hobby. Currently going through all the Kanjis using Heisig's... about 1500 more to go!
Having a job can make one's life extremely mundane when there are so many things you wish you could wet your feet in~
Note here that on the days I arrive home at 1 AM (due to transportation and etc), I gotta sleep and wake up at 6 AM to prepare and drive to start the day that's at 9 AM....
I dare any of you have a better hobby than that! :D
My hobbies are anything that can be done on a computer, programming, drawing, writing, watching series, playing games, reading... Reading books, mostly Sci Fi and Fantasy.
I kind of run out of time at this point, wish I had more time for those so I could add one more. :/

you will but its going to take years. it depends on how hard you try but in general its years. very frustrating it is. keep all your stuff and after some years you can lyao about your old sketches.
Besides playing starcraft and other games I write music. I've written for some independent films and other small projects, nothing major. My most recent work was for the RPM Challenge, where the goal was to create and entire albums worth of music in the month of February. I made this:
I mostly play Guitar if i dont play starcraft or if im not going out and chilling. I used to skateboard a lot until i really destroyed my right ankle. Right now just going to school and playing SC2/Guitar. Been playing guitar for about 10 years now and playing jazz instrumental rock and metal.
I won the 2001 Western Regional Championships for advanced single-hand division and got offered a slot on team ProYo. I haven't caught up on it in forever and I realized how insane it's gotten over the years. ffffuuuuuuuuu--------
Uh well you know, i spend time with my daughters, wife and daughters, go fishing, watching football. Drinkin. PLAYIN world of warcraft... oh yeah, thats my fucking passion right there
1. Starcraft 2. Piano 3. Getting into/ learning Super Smash 64/Melee (fuck Brawl) 4. Magic: the Gathering 5. Listening to music/discovering new music. 6. Reading
Future/Maybe
Poker, producing EDM type music, DJing (when I get the money) Chess
I've been playing halo quite competitively and plan to continue when reach comes out. I've also started taking a couple people new to sc under my wing and helping them learn how to play starcraft 2 semi-well.
I plant seeds from stuff I eat and watch them grow into plants. So far I have about ten citrus trees, a jalapeno bush, two avocado trees, a passionfruit vine, and a mango tree.
And I build stuff with electronics. My latest project is an FM synth that I've tried implementing with an arduino and a DAC. But I'm probably gonna skip the DAC and just PWM the sound instead to gain speed. Which is a shame because the FM wave from the DAC looks so beautiful in an oascilloscope ;_;
Getting drunk on friday or saturday night , workout on sundays like i kill myself just on my workout. Playing all kinds of games whenever i have a freetime or on a holiday

Hi, I would love to know more about this. Do you do it in your house/apartment? Outdoor greenhouse? How well do the plants fare? How much fruit have you gotten?

Hello
So far, the chili-plants and the tomatoes are the only ones that have born fruit. And the tomatoes were pretty underwhelming, but I have gotten a LOT of chili so far. Unfortunately most of my chili-plants got sick and died, so I'm in the process of growing new ones.
How the plants fare varies a lot depending on the type. My citrus trees are kinda mixed, allthough some of them have managed to stay happy for years. The avocado tree has grown almost into the roof, but some leaves are withering. The chili plants were all super happy before they got sick so they were the most successful ones. Mangoes are the hardest so far. Hard to get to grow and hard to keep alive.
I keep the plants indoors inside the house, and try to put them in sunny windows. It's gotten hard to find space for all of them though.
I'll upload some pictures in the thread when I have the time!
RC cars, scrambling (hiking-mountain climbing hybrid), skiing, shisha and VR arcades with friends, TV shows like GoT/Westworld/BreakingBad/AoT, and learning about how to invest (and investing pretty much all the money I make).
Sums up my life more than I'd like to admit.
@KungKras You seem like a very nice person, that's a nice hobby, I'd love to see some pictures too.
I am gamer at heart so: larping, RPG (pen & paper), boardgames, computer games plus reading. Two years ago i got into classical music so during the season i am at philharmony almost every friday. Also traveling i have a list of things i want to see in my life, i manged to like 3 from 50 but furtunately right now i have job with which i can support traveling so i have great plans.
Edit: And also game design though i mostly design larps.
My hobby is gaming and photography. Is it good to buy the New Nikon D5200 over D5100 as a beginner. I see the cost is too high for D5200 even though the body is same as D5100 with some improvements in pixels and video capture.
Making music without actually being able to make music. Right now I'm doing this for fun project where I make a piece of music to wake up to (call it an alarm clock if you will) every week, for a whole year. So in the end, I'll have 52 "alarm clocks".
Also reading and educating myself. Been doing some delving into mycology, chicken for dummies, elementary algebra and algorithms (Python). Trying to read Dune, but I haven't gotten to it. Also, big fan of a podcast called "Talking Biotech" as I've graduated with a biochem degree, it's fun to hear more angles than the specific thing you've majored in.
Lastly, I'm trying to stay in shape through cycling. Want to pick up running if my knee allows it. Perhaps also train some of my back/core/grip strength in the process, but I need to find the time/effort for this.
I guess that's the gist of it. I'd love to write some stuff here and there, but I've barely got the time for what's on my plate right now, so this (and researching certain topics) are on hold at the moment..
Allright, a bit late maybe but as I promised here are some pictures.
The plants are, in order from left to right: Tomato Kumquat (Type of citrus fruit) Chili pepper plants Ginger and clementine (citrus) in the same pot. Date palm (Deglet Noor) Mango Some kind of chili but I've forgotten what type. Passionfruit vine. Grapefruit Orange Lemon Lemon
Avocado tree.
Jalapeno. But the jalapenos have no heat, so they're basically just smaller bell peppers, which is slightly dissapointing. Good on cheese sandwiches though.
From left to right: Pumpkins Grapefruit Some kind of chili Some kind of Citrus. Maybe another kumquat.
Also, as a bonus picture. Here's what it looks like when I run my phase-modulated soundwave generated by code in an Arduino through a digital-to-analog-converter and into my oscilloscope.
disclaimer: i don't play starcraft anymore. haven't in years. still watch and follow the scene though.
i do Triathlon. train six days a week (except for off-season which started this week for me). i rap. but not much lately tbh. and i know this one isn't a hobby but i really enjoy my current job a lot. spend around 40-50 hours a week working.
I've noticed I have a strange addiction to "useless"/unpractical hobbies. Not that any hobby is useless if you enjoy doing it but when facing the question "what does that hobby bring you aside from the enjoyment of doing it", I'm at loss for an answer. For examples: -Starcraft 2: once you stop playing you won't have much to show for it unless you were a pro -Kickboxing: I could talk about the self-defense side of the sport but truth be told i've never been into a fight before or after taking up kickboxing. It's good cardio i guess. Can't even really play it with friends -Writing: I like writing short stories and write letters to my parents but aside from the enjoyment of coming up with a good story to tell it doesn't bring much -Reading books (i don't even really consider it a hobby because it's a medium you consume, not something that you make/learn) : I can talk about books with other people I guess? But not many people read anyway. -Language learning: I've been learning norwegian for a while now. Progress are coming along nicely though they're slower than I'd like to. However I don't know any norwegian IRL and I've never been to Norway, I just thought it'd be cool. That's the most practical thing I enjoy doing as a hobby but the opportunities to talk norwegian are so rare IRL that it's not really usefull at all.
I've been thinking about starting to learn how to play guitar, that'd be a hobby people just kinda "get" because it's always nice to have someone around who plays guitar well. But yeah that's too useful/practical of a hobby for me so i've been procrastinating about it for months
Meanwhile my girlfriend is the exact opposite. She's into sewing and knitting, piano, cooking, baking and volunteering to teach people how to perform CPR and other life saving movements lel. Some rather handy skills to have.
You can approach reading books differently than "consuming". I think this is a wrong approach. You could get caught in the consuming section of literature: the thriller novels, for example, which mostly put down the sequence of events and have their characters more often than not only thinly fleshed out, or you could go the more prosaic route, or read stories that actually share wisdom. It's also relevant to put into context what you're reading. For instance, why did science fiction (utopian and dystopian alike) become popular during the end of the 19th century and even more popular in the 20th? After thinking about it, I've come to realize this is a genre that feeds off of things going bad in the world. It's a reflection, where we either see outcomes as bleak (the dystopian view) or hopeful (the utopian). Of course you have a lot more nuance, but this realization made me appreciate science fiction - and especially the time in which specific novels were written - much more.
ON SC2: this is a brain-stimulator. It keeps your brain and reflex muscles (hand-eye coordination) sharp. It's not a waste to keep your brain fit on certain levels. So, no, you don't have nothing to show for it. ON kickboxing: the same as SC2, it's body-eye coordination, reflexes and it keeps the body fit. So with SC2 and kickboxing you have got a good combo going to keep you sharp for years to come.
Writing is like a puzzle, it'll also keep the language part of your brain sharp, as well as the creative part. Learning a language stimulates your brain, which is a good thing.
I would say the following though: don't spread yourself too thin with hobbies. If you take on too much you'll burn out and get a distaste for many things I think. I think 3-5 hobbies to spend time on is more than enough and everything after that will just cause mental exhaustion.
Until recently I must have overlooked how dope fishing was. I mean, I used to go as a kid and recall long days on the dock fondly, but for whatever reason there has been a near 2 decade gap since picking it back up. It's not difficult to always have a rod&tackle in my vehicle and feeling like finding some water and breathing some air. It helps that I enjoy hiking already and have scoped out many quiet spots near me in the process. Doesn't really matter if nothing comes of it; I've never had a hobby for which I wasn't obsessed with the outcome, improving, whatever. Just silence, contemplation, and sometimes I come across a fish.

Being bipolar it’s rather tricky to avoid. I am gradually picking my hobbies up again these days, quite enjoying that. I’m a reasonably competent musician, although my guitar chops specifically greatly outdo the rest of my general abilities.
Mine was ultimate frisbee. With Covid though, that's gone to hell. There's no true way to play safely without increasing risk to those around me.
Just a few of the discs I have lying around my room (I own a couple dozen)
2008 wfdf world championships game disc Kamloops Tournament disc Koi - Friend's team disc Random disc 2018 WUCC
Only other real hobby right now is bouldering - Mandatory masks where I climb makes this fairly reasonable for safety compared to ultimate, as it's short term, generally anaerobic exercise. Still some idiots pulling mask out to breathe etc but not the worst.
