its pretty simple, they all payed 9 euros, 27 euros total (25 to the bill+2 to the waiter) 25 euros to pay the bill + 2 euros for the waiter --- 27 euros payed (9x3 euros) User was warned for this post | ||

Now for a funny Math related picture: the above person kinda missed the point. The interesting part of the riddle comes from the fact that it can all be done practically and with whole dollars. The three people paid ten dollars each (let's say 10 one dollar bills each). The waiter returned one dollar to each of them. Now the customers had paid 9 dollars each which equals 27. The waiter only kept 2 dollars, so from the perspective of the customers one dollars has disappeared! In actual fact 25 dollars went to the house 3 dollars back to the customer and 2 to the waiter. So all the money is accounted for. It's obviously not correct to look at what the customers paid PLUS what the waiter kept because it's mixing the two perspectives. it should be 27 MINUS 2 equals 25 which is kept by the house.
