Two reasons why 'troll science' makes me laugh hard:
a) it's fundamentally wrong on so many levels
b) people trying to explain it fail so often

Here, we have both cases. By continuing process of cutting corners, you will not get the octagon. In fact, you will get something very, very close to circle. But it will never be a circle: only a shape with infinite amount of internal 90 and 270 degree corners.

The explanation: circle, by definition, is a shape consisting of points that are at exactly the same distance from a point called "the center of the circle". Now, look at this:

In circle: a = b
Here: a < b
Cut more corners: b decreases, but it's always bigger than a.
Therefore, it is never going to be a circle.
