Inkblood, comes from the fact that I write a lot of fiction, and the only thing that made a decent name attached to writing that I could find was Ink, so I stuck with that. But since I wanted something a wee bit longer I added blood.

This comes from a freaky dream I had a few years back, where there were white foxes, who bled white blood. And I don’t know why, but in the dream I remember finding this out and finding it absolutely chilling, it was just really frightening for some reason. And the memory of that dream has stuck with me, and thus I added on blood, from the white blood of the foxes.

I am a huge Secret of Mana / Seiken Densetsu 2 fan since I was a child.

VMan is a shorthand of what my brother used to call me back then; I came up with it since the "enter your name" screen of Secret of Mana allows a maximum of six characters.

So, pretty much, "VMan, [Knight] of Mana"

My alternate nick is Seiken. I just like how the word sounds.

That Thing You Do is a fun Tom Hanks movie from a decade ago about a one-hit wonder 60s band.

Their band name was originally the "one"ders but everyone kept mispronouncing it "oh-need-ers" and "oh-nehd-ers" so when a label signed them they switched to the standard "wonders."

I've thought about switching my name to I Am Spartacus, another inside joke from the movie.

i just through the town i was born in into the runescape sistem and this was the easiest name to remember that poped up. yes, i have a level 79 and have never payed Jagex a cent. i have no life.

My ID is a reference to both Athos the Musketeer and Athos the Archsage. I thought of the tag back in 6th grade after reading The Three Musketeers and playing Fire Emblem 7. Athos seemed like the coolest of the three Musketeers, he was older, wiser, and good with the ladies. I'd like to think I got the name primarily from the novel, but a part of me realizes I played an assload of FE7. You didn't get to play as Athos until the final mission, but he was so powerful he could take out the final boss by himself. I think these two characters sort of merged in my head. I ended up changing my ID to Athos on an Advance Wars forum I frequented and the name stuck. For a while, I was Athos on USEAST and it was such a cool tag because there were no damn numbers on the end. I also got the same tag on TL, and most forums I frequent have some variation of Athos in them. I like the idea of having one identity for everything I do online. Sure it's not my actual name, but if somebody yelled it in a crowded room, I would turn my head. I guess IDs really become a part of your own identity over time.

My friend told me he saw me on Maple Story and i told him I didn't play anymore so that was impossible. He then told me he was joking and saw a guy's name "hahaimhenry". I thought it was clever and stuck to it

I originally started out with the username lasercannon because I loved Star Wars. It was also a testament to how awesome the photon man cheat in Age of Empires was:

Eventually I decided to change my username since I wanted something a little less juvenile, but I still wanted it to be related to my original handle. I settled on spazer for those reasons, but also because Metroid is a fantastic game.

I used to play on a counterstrike server that had a war3 mod loaded on it. One of the abilities your character could get was to become partially invisible. I played this for several months while only using a knife trying to sneak up on people and shank them. I would customize my spray to various things to help me camoflauge, or to try to distract their attention (a big ol pic of cleavage for example).

During this time i was surfing the internots, and saw the iconic Apache web server feather, and ripped it and made it a spray (it used to be much more abnoxious / brightly coloured) and i used to spray it in whatever room i was in, to give people a hint as to where i was (or simply to lure them).

The server was always on all-talk, and people just coined me as feather.
Later i found if i put a - at the beginning, i could shape the name like a feather

It was 2001 and I needed a handle quick.

The song Bad Boys for Life was playing.

I thought they were saying Bad Boys fo Life. I thought it sounded cool.

I was playing Starcraft, and what sexier unit is there than the zergling? Thus zerglingsfolife was born.

Edit: This has created funny situation in SC since I usually play as Terran. Some protosses would forge FE against me, or do not optimal openings. Pretty funny

tonight's end was a band I was in like 5-6years ago so I used tonightsend as a lot of my IDs, but now it's just tonight because it's nice.

I used to work at a radio station when I attended Seton Hall, 89.5FM WSOU. We were all given DJ names before we got our on-air clearance. You never got to choose your own name, that was lame.

I walked in one day to see my last name crossed off the assistant producer (fancy name for the guy answering phones) grid and the word "Optimus" in front. It was awesome, and it stuck. People thought I gave myself the name but I couldn't have. It was a mystery for over a year.

I had a friend (Scarecrow) at the station I assistant produced for while he DJ'd. After flexing my incredible nerd muscles in a Transformer conversation, he apparently ran around to all the schedules in the station and crossed my name out in favor of the new nick name. I found this out not too long ago, haha.

I'm just lucky I wasn't stuck with a lame DJ name XD

I just carried it over here, on to Brood War, etc. I tried making it my SC2 beta name, but apparently it's considered offensive? So I can't use it

I use CecilFail instead, which (in another incredible display of nerd muscle,) is the name of my first Dungeons and Dragons character.

Before either of those, I was known as dartski, which originated from a character I created when I was about 12 or 13 and used to role play in text based games and chat rooms. The character was originally called Dart Strife, referencing both The Legend of Dragoon and Final Fantasy 7. I just got lazy one day and gave him a nick name.
