You could always try the greasemonkey script that plays flash videos in an in-browser box of VLC. Smooth playback without the stupid CPU usage of flash.

had memory leak problems with ff but it actually extended to all browsers and was not only limited to flash. Couldn't do anything but reformat.

i just googled this, apparently you have to wait for the whole video to load before you can begin playback? that's definitely a no-go..

i usually have this problem with any livestream, video stuttering in ie/ff with moderate cpu usage. although the sound comes through fine. weird thing is though the other night i was playing dragon age which causes 100% cpu and i alt tabbed to roffles high quality stream in ff and it was smooth as. i have no idea what causes the issue now. been having this issue in both vista/ win7, after complete rebuilds, latest flash and ff. at a loss what to try next.

I have issues sometimes with FF similar to this, where I'll try to load a livestream and it'll freeze everything up, and I'm forced to end firefox.exe using taskmanager (which at this point takes 2 minutes to bring up), and I see FF at 50% CPU usage (1.6ghz dual core, so one entire core is hogged), with like over 200,000 K Mem usage... though that only happens SOMETIMES, and if I close firefox and restart it, after several times the stream will run okay as long as I'm not doing much else. :\

Lately FF has been handling streams like Day[9]'s okay, though when he enables the chat for questions it lags a bit. I haven't changed anything, so I don't know what's up, but I still hover around 50% CPU. :\

I'm having an issue where Firefox sometimes doesn't want to full screen on websites like Hulu or Youtube. Anyone else having that problem? It's not a technical problem since Chrome doesn't seem to be doing that.

Found possible solution (unfortunately only for Linux users): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swiftfox

Gonna try it out (as for me too FF is often slow when viewing flash).

Edit:
Updating flash to 10.0 r42 and FF to 3.6 seems to have solved the flash slowdown problem.
CPU usage dropped from 50% to 15%.
Time is precious. Waste it wisely.

Ok I did some testing and turns out my net is unstable as hell (pingtest.net)

Looked around the house and found someone had plugged in an ancient rotator dial phone without a filter. I remember unplugging the damn thing ages ago grrrr

We'll see how the stream goes tonight

something like that would nearly cut your speed in half and totally kill your reliability under a fast dsl conditions you must have a slow dsl if you havent noticed it instally.

I think it is a flash problem. I use google chrome and I sometimes have that problem. Sorry if it has already been stated I'm just to lazy to read anything but the first and last pages.

Well, that's your problem.
When you have one of those integrated Intel "video cards" what it really means is that you simply don't have a video card - all those chips are really doing is offloading what would normally be accomplished by the video card onto your ram and processor. So given that it should be obvious why flash causes such huge spikes, no?

I definitely have this problem on the work comps, but they suck so everything is laggy.

At home I think the lag is attributed to my ISP/bandwidth though. I often just DL videos from youtube and watch in VLC later.

ALso, Firefox has gotten laggier and laggier for like every update. It's unavoidable though.
..and then I would, ya know, check em'. (Aka SpoR)
