Flash slow in firefox? - Page 2

my firefox gets unreliable when opening the TSL cast for example, it has crashed twice. Which is kinda weird :D i might actually go back to opera or maybe even IE, these days firefox seems not only unreliable, but also slow and a resource hog.

Update everything to its latest versions. Also close ALL FF tabs, and open up a livestream with just one and see how much memory that takes.

The problem with FF right now is that everything is handled within one process, so you have a lot more strain on a CPU core that cannot handle all of the memory that the one FF process needs.
It is impossible to be a citizen if you don't make an effort to understand the most basic activities of your government. It is very difficult to thrive in an increasingly competitive world if you're a nation of doods.

I've had this problem before.Seems like if you leave a webpage with flash open it'll use more memory, causing FF to lag. Someone confirm my "theory" lol.

Now I use Chrome :D

Use Google Chrome; believe it or not, it is the fastest browser for pretty much any use, at least in my experience (compared to IE, FF, Opera).

I had pretty much the same problem with FF regardless of whether it was the most recent version or not. I'm using Chrome now for pretty much everything, FF for only when I want to download some videos, and IE for anything that happens to not work on the first two browsers.

When I tried it a month or two ago Chrome handled flash applications worse than any other browser. Not sure they've fixed that or not. In any case, Flash is very demanding and if you don't have a really fast CPU the slowness will be noticeable in any browser (but both IE and Opera consumes less CPU with flash for me than Firefox).

I'm running just Chrome right now watching Roffles stream and I have BW running the background as well as a couple other small programs open (Word, MSN, IRC, etc) and my CPU Usage is between 10-25%.

EDIT: When I run all of that PLUS Firefox with Roffles stream (so I have both Chrome and FF running Roffles stream) my CPU Usage is in between 25% and 50% and I have the latest FF.

I mean, it's entirely possible that decoding video is a cpu-intensive task... though that generally applies to HD stuff. in any case, your other core should be enough to handle your other tasks, unless you're trying to live-stream + play games at the same time.

Wow wut? That's really weird. I would suggest a clean reinstall of Firefox and see if the problem persists :/

Well I'm using a netbook and flash heavy sites grind it to a halt. Flash is graphics intensive so it's probably more to do with graphics card than anything... I'm presuming HD youtube slows it even more?

I never watch HD youtube.. I don't have a use for it. Opera is maxing out around 60% cpu usage rofl =/

I don't know if its a gfx card issue - it's certainly a possibility.

The latest Flash 11 beta has support for hardware accelerated video decoding if you have a supported video card.

There couple solution you can try. First off, if you haven't get 3.6rc, that give me a good 10 percent cpu reduction and drop firefox memory usage by a good 15-20 percent. If that doesn't help, try to reinstall some older graphic driver for your intel chip set. Intel and ATI graphic tend to cause some problem with firefox running flash, especially if you're using xp.
