I see that you are curious about this, so here's a short description of this war.
Stalin (selfish idiot) was afraid Russians from European part of USSR will not obey his crazy orders (they had long friendship with Finland) and he decided to use soldiers from South USSR regions who had never saw snow and Finns in their life and surprise surprise that they got killed there + territtory that didn't allow usage of military vehicles.Stalin just sent them as "meat". (just like Allied leaders with unnecessary loses during operation "Overlord" when ~70% of Nazi's army was defeated by Red Army).
P.S. All leaders in WWII were dumb with unnecessary loses for gaining power.
