I think it would have been the only reasonable thing to do, but I'm sure they are re-checking every corner now...

Ya they said the boy is not home right now and there were some reports of something falling out of the ballon at one point.

There are many cases of people surviving 20,000+ foot falls, i'm assuming 8000 feet would be possible but not probable.

Yeah but Falcon is SIX YEARS OLD.

I don't understand how the six-year-old kid could have gotten inside AND untied the ropes (assuming they're anchored outside). So I'm going to be optimistic now :/

So the kids were playing outside and one of the kids told the dad that one went up in the Balloon.

I think a 6-year-old boy's body is necessarily more susceptible to any kind of damage caused by an impact then that of an adults. But here's to hoping.
Actually lets hope he's just hiding...

wow i got goosebumps. this is so sad. no sin, no crime, but he paid the ultimate price

Young little buggers have amazingly resilient bodies, ever see how flexible they are?

I'm thinking more mathematically about it. Obviously it's not like he would walk out of that fall but the terminal velocity of a 45 pound 6 year old is quite a bit less than that of a 200 pound man. With drag caused by his clothes he would probably only fall at around (doing math...) 3.45 - 3.7525 feet per second, which is about 2.5 miles per hour. He would probably move faster through the rarified air at that altitude but would slow down to around that speed when he got closer to the ground.
|
WTF, the family was on wifeswap :s
|
yeah a 6 year old would have a lower terminal velocity, however their body wouldnt be as strong
all depends on how and where he landed.

This story is getting so interesting
I hope the sibling wasn't pranking. That would be such a disappointing twist.

Definitely. It would be much better if he was smashed into several thousand small pieces after falling through the air - oh and also he'd been asphyxiated by the helium in the balloon before he ever fell out. Don't you just love happy endings?

maybe so. but you gotta pull for it man. i really really hope they were pranking or he survived. but the helium thing they are talking about it... good point. kid may have dead and then fallen out.. door wasn't locked and that shit is spinning and going 30 mph

Then why was the door still shut. Also I would think air would flood into the balloon and it would have landed earlier.

No a good ending would be that he fell out and managed to crawl back home after breaking both his legs.
