What I dont get is... they were travelling by bus from Togo to Angola? That's like.... driving from Denmark to Greece. And I don't imagine they have motorways all the way there.

Souleymane Habuba (CAF's communications director) went on to question why Togo, in contrast to the other 15 teams making their way to Angola for the tournament, had elected to travel by road rather than flying.

"CAF's regulations are quite clear, teams are required to travel by air, not road," he continued.

"We had a meeting of all the teams this morning, or at least almost all of them - Togo didn't show up, and it was only later on Friday afternoon that we heard via information from the media that they had been the victims of an attack.

"But at no point were we told they were travelling by road." [

Only reason I could think of is lack of money T_T

Sounds like wilderness and warlord violence to me. Where were they attacked/ambushed? Can anyone give a more detailed news report?

Well at least Adebayor was uninjured. Looks like it was north west Angola, and they were training in neighboring Congo. So it was pretty close by.

Anyhoo, a lot of Africa is politically fucked up. This might be an Angola security problem or it might not.

adebayor has enough money to pay for all their airfare, if he doesn't want to he can just ask man city.

It happened in Cabinda, an exclave of Angola. They have had some separatist rebels, but they had been mostly inactive for a while.

Now they've pulled out of the tournament, can't remember the last time when football news became this political.

Has any1 ever seen 6 min added time?
These sites might be of more use than a StarCraft site, where the majority of posters look on WCIII as the dense misformed fetus produced during Blizzards latest miscarrige.

Isn't Fergie time usually 5 minutes?
Fergie really needs to speak with these reffs so they understand when he wants and when he doesnt want the 5+ of added time. Shocking.

I think the ref gave 6 minutes to spite Ferguson, United was down to 10 men and playing away.

Yeah because City should pay for having one of their players taken away. Adebayor is great but he's no George Weah.
Do great work

your logic makes no sense. Why should the club have to finance the expenses of one of their player's national team?

this is all completely hypothetical, but if togo really did not have the money to pay for airfare, wouldn't it make sense for man city who has one of their first team players traveling with the team, to make sure Adebayor, and the togo team stay out of the areas where they might and did get attacked?

They can't prevent Adebayor from playing for his country, it's in his contract, they might as well make sure he doesn't get injured while he's in Africa? I don't understand how this logic doesn't make sense.

of course this is all in hindsight, but I'm sure they knew the dangers of traveling across the border by bus.

I understand what you're saying, but it's ridiculous to suggest that a club should keep track of all the places he's going and make every effort to protect him, especially in a tournament which hurts them.

This is surely an exception. It's a situation, probably the only one City has ever had to face, where one of their players may be put in mortal danger because of a lack of funds. Again all hypothetical, but I can't imagine Togo traveling by bus for any other reason, unless maybe there are no airports or something. It's different than if Adebayor was going on vacation to Africa during the off season. I understand that clubs hate releasing their players for international fixtures but not like City can do anything about it in this case.

Of course they would have paid to fly the team if they had known that they would have been shot at if they drove, but they didn't.

The only thing I find strange is that there are still no explanation on why the Togo team took the bus and not the plane.

The explanation is that they were in the Congo. It's not very far.

No, I am talking about why they drove when it is suppose to be mandatory to fly.
