So I finally beat this after 20+ years. Really fun game. And there's something special about the ballad of the wind fish in my heart, since i used to play it, and dream of getting all 8 pieces to awaken the wind fish.
Its also something special. Although Im not gonna lie, the 8th dungeon is the weakest, especially because the magic rod at the end isnt very interesting or open up much areas. And thats the appeal of getting such a dungeon item. Congratulations! I liked playing LA as a kid, and I really enjoyed the remake and the art style on Switch. Have you played Echoes of Wisdom? Same art style, and it's another unique, refreshing, stand-alone Zelda game. Yeah! Thats the next zelda game im going to bite in next. I've done one of the dungeons, I think. I heard its really cool, since it marries a buncha zelda concepts, like 2d style with the botw freedom, as well as the weird discrepancies, like 3D zora being so different than the 2d zoras and it somehow blends them in one world. Yep, it's very clever! You can play EoW as a more traditional, old-school 2D Zelda game, or you can use the echoes to break the mold and play the game in a ton of unique ways. Plus, playing as Zelda is awesome

I am looking for a smaller Game Boy-esque experience for my kids which I can curate to fit their age.
So I am buying 2 Miyoo Mini Plus for the boys, slapping on OnionKidsOS and giving them a few games on it (I want to ensure they do not suffer from choice paralysis).
So if you guys have any Game Boy / Game Boy Advance must-play games for kids ages 5 & 7 feel free to suggest them :-D
I got the original Game Boy when I was around that 5-7 age range; it was awesome I really enjoyed playing the Kirby Dream Land games, Tetris / Tetris Blast, Super Mario Land / Wario Land games, Donkey Kong games, and some basic sports games. After a few years, I got the new Game Boy Color, so it wasn't until I was a bit older when the GBA came out (and by then I was playing some games that were for a slightly older pre-teen / young teen audience, like Advance Wars, Golden Sun, and Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones). Also, Pokemon (anime + Gen 1) came out when I was 10 years old, which was pretty much a perfect age... after all, Ash Ketchum was/is 10 too!
I myself am from 1990 so I grew up with an OG Game Boy on which I played a few games my brother and I owned.
Obviously, Pokemon Yellow was the one I put the most hours into. My youngest is not in school yet, the oldest have started 1½ year ago but has only had like 4 English classes so Pokemon is what he wants but I am not sure if he can play himself without too much help from me. We will see.
I am thinking of putting on a few games from the following genres/IPs on them:
Tetris Kirby (The GBA has a great Kirby title apparently) Klonoa (It gets recommended a lot for kids) Mario (2D Mario is great, need to find the best title to start them out on) Mario Kart Pokemon (gen 2,3 or 4) Pokemon Pinball Bomberman (simple gameplay) Mario Kart or F-Zero

And video games can be great ways to learn/practice English, if the player is motivated enough / enjoys the game enough.
Games with intuitive and straightforward objectives (Tetris, Bomberman, racing games, etc.) tend not to have/need a lot of reading, but RPGs (like Pokemon, though I'd start at Gen 1) and story-driven games often require it.

If you're into Beat 'em ups: Do NOT get Blackmoor 2 for the Switch 1, it gets laggy quickly and that's tilting af. The idea of the game is pretty alright though. I'd enjoy a game like it without lag.

In other news, I have started playing BALL x PIT which is a really great roguelike with an addictive loop

When I think of genres / games that are likely to lag on the original Switch, I usually don't think about beat 'em ups. I wonder if it's at least smooth on the Switch 2?
