Pretty sick bro, good work. Didn't know the prize pool was fucking $250,000 WUT. Fucking crazy. Shame not a single UK player amongst the teams, even Dignitas team is pure Danes ;_;
I'd like to have a different banner, but I have no idea what to do, so this will have to suffice for now.
Really looking forward to this, hoping for mouz to upset ofc, if they're on their game they should be able to make it out of the groups. Excited to see Vox Eminor play aswell, I have no idea what their skill level is or what strats they got, should be fun
This will be first CS event I will watch (only seen few games). I started playing this game month ago and its my only FPS game I have played, so I suck (silver 4 fighting~~).
Can someone post some odds about this tournament. I know NiP is the favorite and Titan prolly second? Individuals to watch? Get_Right, Scream, KennyS, else?

Sorry for my newbie bullshit :D!
Favourites are probably Titan , NiP and fnatic. If the real Hellraisers shows up then they might have a chance aswell, but if the one shows up that lost 3-16 and 6-16 vs. mouz they'll be gone in a heartbeat. Virtus Pro has the home crowd behind them, so they cant be counted out either. Its crazy stacked, I could probably name 8 teams with a fair chance to win it all. Dark Horses would be Clan Mystik and mouz I would say, maybe Reason aswell.
Players to watch is hard, probably Get_Right, KennyS, ChrisJ, JW, shox, Guardian, aizy

Just to make it clear, there will be no audience for the group stages at all : ( Honestly I'm torn if I should go, I can most likely only afford 1 day now and Saturday would be best quality wise but VP may be long out of the tournament. Sunday is just finals, and Friday I'm not sure.

Oh yeah, forgot that the venue opens on friday, which sucks for VP, but they should be able to make it out of groups regardless.
But groups are bo1, everything can happen, we'll see
I'm cheering 4 Titan, mouz and Na'Vi in this tournament. Love Titans play , agressive style from mouz and not really impressed so much of Na'Vi as i am a fan of mr.Zeus .
Changed my predictions for Group A. I am going to bet on Titan and HellRaisers to go through, instead of Titan and VP.
I have a feeling the real HellRaisers will show up on LAN. I believe in my gut!
Full predictions:
Head: Titan + HR Heart: Titan + HR
Head: NiP + LDLC Heart: NiP + LDLC
Head: fnatic + iBP Heart: fnatic + iBP
Head: coL + Clan-Mystik Heart: coL + Na`vi

Lots of people to watch. For Titan you wanna keep an eye on basically everyone, but the real excitement generally comes in the form of shox/NBK/ScreaM (when he's not pooping himself). For NiP, the focus will usually be more on GTR, f0rest and friberg (I love watching friberg the most out of all NiP players because he is an entry frag monster and the ultimate boss at defending sites).
Other players to look out for are basically everyone on HR (they have some sick individual potential, it's their teamwork and ingame calling that really needs work), LEGIJA and chrisJ for mouz, aizy is quite a player for 3DMAX and MSL can really step it up at times, apex/KQLY are the main guys for LDLC, flusha/JW/schneider on fnatic (but with fnatic, keeping close attention on pronax's ingame leading is crucial as well), all of iBP can perform (or not perform) but I like watching DaZeD the most, Xyp9x/dupreeh main guys to watch for Dignitas, swag/Hiko/n0thing for coL, GuardiaN, starix and Edward on Na`vi, kennyS/kioshima for Clan-Mystik, olof/twist/dennis for LGB I guess. Dunno much about Vox and Reason these days.
Hope Fifflaren will deliver and NiP will prevail. He's really getting a lot of hate lately for not fragging as much as monsters like Get_RighT, f0rest or friberg, and that annoys me to no end. Fiif is an amazing support player, and has done a decent job as an IGL thus far.
Besides NiP and titan, I think we should watch out for Virtus Pro and LGB. As for fnatic I don't think they'll live up to their hype and probably will crash out early. Dignitas's performance has been pretty mediocre after swapping nico with cajunb. Na'Vi is still as inconsistent as ever, and so is HR. coL and iBP are all big question marks, they can either go very deep, or get eliminated in the group stage. Mouz, LDLC, Clan-Mystik and 3DMAX are all newly-formed teams, so their chances are slim. Vox is the Asian hope, but realistically speaking they have no chance (I'll still root for them though )
As for the individuals, I'll have my eyes on KennyS, GeT_RighT, f0rest, Fifflaren, NBK, Guardian, xyp9x, flusha, olofmeister, and twist
Looks like the schedule is out, ESLTV will cover the starting matches of Group A and C and they will switch to the more interesting Winners Match,Losers Match and Final Match of the 2 simultaneous groups( A or B and C or D respectively), while NiPTV (Anders & Semmler) will cover every match ESLTV isnt covering.
Days 2, 3 and 4 will only be on the ESLTV stream aswell as the foreign language streams

I dont really know how it works in Dota, but all you have to do is link steam and twitch and watch the stream for this. You could also watch through GOTV in the client.

Do you have any idea if watching in twitch (both streams open) and gotv at same time increases the chance? thats what I did during DH but not sure it counted for much, still got like 4 cases

It's random for sure. In Dota2, I go 1 from last DH Summer, 2 from SL7. Nothing from the other tournaments I've watched

Would you mind giving tabseN a german flag? :s I know both Legija and TabseN also have another nationality beside german. But while Legija is also playing for serbia tabsen on the other hand is part of the german nationalteam and has a german flag as his ingame portrait chosen for himself.
This is just a minor detail but for me this polish flag doesn't really fit.

My understanding is that you only get drop per match, so if you watch 2 streams watching the same game you don't double your chances. You do tho if you watch for examples the official ESL stream and the NiPtv stream because they always cast different games.
It all would be 10x more enjoyable if watching Twitch wouldn't crash my comp every 15 minutes for some reason (only Twitch does that, all other streams work fine).
I'm hoping it's not for arguing about the start money. When I watched the last round of the CSGO Swedish Championship, despite that a player DQd from a server, they didn't argue about money and they decided to make the best out of the situation instead.

They deserve to play without getting shafted. As a fan you should be disappointed in yourself for not wanting to see the best teams in the world play their very best and instead just want matches to move along despite dumb glitches.

Momentum plays a really huge role in this game and especially on maps like inferno and d2 which are heavily 1 sided.
since when are d2 and inferno heavily one sided?
They have always been? Inferno is a ct sided map, not as bad as nuke but definitely one sided. Same with d2, especially with momentum its heavily t sided. Obviously its not always that because this game is extremely inconsistent but statistically speaking the most balanced map was mirage_ce but valve decided to scrap it from tournaments. Now that just leaves cache as the new balanced map.

Damn, I hate the organization of this tournament. The format is awful with BO1 double elim groups. This means that a team can drop out by losing only 2 maps, or advance from a group by winning only 2 maps. Coupled with randomness of BO1, this means that anyone can win or drop right away, regardless of overall skill.
Additionally, players from groups C and D were forced to wait 5 hours for their games at the venue. They had to arrive 2 hours in advance and then wait 3 more hours because of delays. Zeus from Na'Vi said in a mini interview to ceh9 (former Na'Vi player and currently one of the streamers of this tournament) that they arrived to Katowice just today and had to go to the venue without any rest, and that they all are very tired (from both the trip and the waiting). This was before their first game today. Not surprisingly they played much worse than they usually do.
Yes, I'm bitter because Na'Vi dropped so fast. Not even because of the loss actually, but because they had a group they certainly were capable of advancing from and couldn't show their best game because of circumstances outside of their control. And because of shitty format.

Its the generic organization for cs tournaments. BO1 groups then single elim playoffs. Its been like this forever.

Not really. Groups were usually round-robin, not double elim and that's more games regardless of BO1 or BO3. Also some LAN tournaments have BO3 in groups, like upcoming CPH Games.

Not really. Groups were usually round-robin, not double elim and that's more games regardless of BO1 or BO3. Also some LAN tournaments have BO3 in groups, like upcoming CPH Games.
4groups of 4 bo3 round robin would take forever however. I don't have a problem with the current "GSL" format, it makes it so there aren't meaningless games on groups. I can accept bo3 over bo1 but its just soooooo much games for 2 streams.
Also twitch stopped working for me. I have some channels online but I upped resolution on 1 of them and now it says offline. I reloaded the page on other and it went offline too. And my brother next to me can watch them -.-'
@Nova, Thanks for organizing and updating this. I miss a lot of cs just because i don't know it is happening.
Misirlou i feel your pain, Centurylink here in the usa. In the morning i could watch 2 streams on source quality with no lag, 4 PM hits and i cant even watch at low quality without lag on one stream.
In BO1 one team picks and the other picks side? So once it goes to bo3 we will have knife rounds? Being able to be ct side first on CT sided map seems like such an advantage, but then with the map pool I'm surprised we don't see more mirage since from my small amount of pro cs knowledge it seems with good strats you can take rounds on T side.
Just to illustrate how random BO1 is, look at these two games played today, at the same map, within mere 3 hours: game_1game_2 (links to hltv). In first Reason beat fnatic, in the second fnatic absolutely demolished Reason. Anyone can win in such format, if both teams are professional and it's not noobs vs pros.
It's not random in my opinion it just seems that Reason had a strat prepared for inferno but they weren't counting on playing fnatic twice on the same map, fnatic being a top team that they are and having cArn as a coach adapted and did what they did
I can make several more examples like that just from the recent games. It is random, most people in the community agree with it. If you watch CS:GO more or less regularly you should know that the game is very streaky and result of the map frequently depends on a side team started at or even a single mistake from one player in one round.

it was not lag/stutter related, since I had a total of 8 streams up constantly on my computer, 2 of them on source 6 on mobile. They just bugged out for some reason for me for about 30 mins saying offline after I reloaded them.
I watched IBP vs Fnatic and it was amazing to watch for me, few clutch plays and a close ass game ending on the 28th round i think. Although i havent played or watched CS in over a year (soon to change D: )
It kept me up till 5am when i was literally exhausted before i turned it on.

sad to see NiP vs coL so soon, imo both are top 4.
Titan was top 1, no worries.
I don't think Titan was top 1. They just practiced hard on "anti-nip" strategies and beat them consistently, however, they lost several matches to much easier teams than NiP because their plays didnt work out as well.

Don't forget DH Winter. Fnatic, VP and coL can surely upset them. Especially VP, Neo and Taz played out of their minds, I felt like I was back watching 2009 1.6

oohhh, Hellraisers is Astana Dragons. I've missed out a lot. Very Games -> Titan, AD -> Hellraisers. When I saw the thread and no AD I went to google and saw they disbanded, but didn't see they had a new organisation. Glad they are here.
I prefer to see those three maps than Nuke/Train considering how the first team to start as CT just have an overwhelming advantage on the latter two generally. It's a shame Cache isn't in the map pool. Hopefully in future tournaments we can get Cache and Tuscan.
I like Overpass for two reasons. (1) It really puts teamwork to the test (2) It's a map with a good balance of risk/reward. Some more polish could be needed, but Valve is certainly in the right direction with Overpass
It's great to see the tournament running so smoothly for the most part. There was that Steam problem yesterday that lead to a huge delay but all-in-all I think the Valve patches helped a lot.
man didnt catch first 2 series except for last 5 rounds of VP LDC. I finally figured out why my twitch stream wasn't working (pc clock was off :/) but then I managed to spill coffee on it and had to open it to clean it up. fml

I don't know why people are whining about wanting x-ray. X-ray constantly makes CS boring to watch.
Completely agree about the x-ray. It's really sad that most casters/tournaments are using it and it makes games so much less exciting to watch. It also makes some situations confusing because with it we can clearly see players while the player whose POV we see may or may not notice others. So at times it's hard to say if some player just couldn't notice the enemy or he could but made a mistake.

NiP did fumble the ball here and there but I credit coL more for their fantastic plays and aim. They just weren't missing shots, and when a team is rolling like that, well we saw what happened this game and VP vs. LDLC. Should give NiP props for being able to make it so close at the end.

Except NiP demolished the wrong side this was epic. Nuke games are commonly tight between one team wining 4 rounds as T instead of 3 on the total of 28-30 rounds. Close doesn't make the game epic. The way NiP played this T side was epic.
Glad it's over, and coL deserved to lose. They said shit like "I don't respect NiP's players," "They're Source players," and were making fun of friberg and Fifflaren. With that kind of attitude, it's no wonder they lost to NiP in both major tournaments so far.

They're hyping each other up. Watching Inferno, Nuke, Dust 2 and Train all the time is boring though. I wish Valve would bring Tuscan in soon. That map was phenomenal in Source. Oh, and Cache as well
Valve, or any developer for that matter, doesn't exactly have the best track record of making competitive maps.
I mean they've done a lot to aztec over the years to try and make it better, same with dust 1. But it hasn't really worked, I think the new dust 1 has sort of ruined it's charm even.

To me it sounded like they actually did not respect them. You usually hear teams say stuff like that to hype each other up, but it's generally more along the lines of "They ain't got nothin' on us" and stuff like that. But when you outright call some players bad it's really like wtf, manner please.
When you're against a high caliber team you better respect them. There's no such thing as "getting rolled if you don't disrespect the other team."

Lol yeah you're right, when they die to someone on NiP they should be saying "wow what a great player his aim is ridiculous". Or when they lose rounds they should be saying "They're a great team guys its ok". Just no. You probably don't understand if you haven't ever played a high level match like that but when you are beating arguably the best team in the world you can say stuff like "Lets go they fucking suck" to keep your team hyped and the momentum rolling. CS is all about confidence, if you tell yourself they suck you'll play better, if you tell yourself you can't beat a certain team you'll play extremely scared and afraid and won't make any plays. This isn't sc2, its a completely different game and the mentality is different as well. Every pro in sc2 is extremely humble but that does not work in this game.
If they said this in an interview then you would have the right to feel the way you do. But when its just over comms it doesn't mean anything and every team does it.
Either way it was a really impressive performance for coL, especially considering what they said about having issues with time and internet this past week and not being able to play together.
Uhm yeah good players always say shit like 'wow ns' all the time. You don't have to say 'WOW FRIBERG SUCKS' after he shoots you in the face. I've played games at a very high level before (albeit not CS) and there is no stupid code such as disrespecting your opponent to give you an edge.
Whether they said this particular thing in team comms isn't meaningless in this particular scenario since I could smell their arrogance drizzling down their chin with the way they said shit. It's totally different from just hyping people up - they really weren't respecting NiP and they got spanked for it after d2. I knew going into the LGB game that they were going to lose there too just from their attitudes after the Clan-Mystik game. Believe it or not arrogance can be as much of a crutch as it can be a useful mechanism.
It's also this arrogance that has stunted NA E-sports for the longest time. Kids needa learn how to be humble. If you wanna look at one of the biggest reasons why the U.S. is so behind in e-sports, just check their attitudes during practice and tournaments. It speaks volumes.

They say "ns" in chat yes, but in their mumbles everyone always complains when they die or is upset when they die. You are entitled to your opinion but its pretty obvious you don't play CS competitively. Everyone that plays CS competitively rages after dying and you would be surprised if you heard the kind of shit people say in their mumbles during matches. You are being so stuck up acting like no other team does it but I guarantee even NiP was saying the same shit, especially judging from what they said about not losing to "fucking americans". Everyone is human and once you picture someone as being some kind of god you are already defeated mentally. This is why a lot of people that play competitive CS get nervous in matches and end up performing poorly.
Raging is normal but bashing the players? That's just plain arrogance. I don't play CS competitively but I don't need to play CS competitively to know how these players are feeling considering the sports, games, and competitions I have done at a competitive level.
And you are basing your opinion on what everyone in the NA scene says, though when I listen in on iBP's comms they aren't nearly at the same level of smug as coL, so that already discredits your "everyone" comment.
The guy already said the "fucking americans" comment wasn't nearly as harsh as it sounded, and even if it was I wouldn't care. tbh I do say stuff like "respect" is important to excel over opponents but I should probably correct myself: the matter is generally different depending on the situation. There's two different forms of disrespect in competitive sports: one that leads one to underestimate their opponent and one that doesn't. I believe NiP generally know not to underestimate their opponents, but the way coL played after d2, you could tell they were underestimating NiP and that lead to a lot of stupid mistakes even on Train.

iBP wasn't the same as coL because they lost both their matches and didn't have any confidence or momentum. What do you expect them to do? They weren't even comming at all and sounded like an amateur team, with everyone sounding depressed and emo. Again, you do have to play cs competitively to understand, which is why I brought it up twice. I played both sc2 and cs competitively and I can tell you that I'm a victim of doing the same thing when I play cs.
Someone on Hell Raisers screamed "Suck it bitch!" in russian after beating Titan, yet what coL says offends you...comical
Haven't watched much CS before but NiP vs coL was really fun, I really like the money mechanic in this game, it seems to add depth while not creating a big enough snowball to prevent comebacks.
If you think CS is the only team sports, e-sports or not, where you rage and say things to hype yourself up, you are sorely mistaken. Your unfortunate problem is that you're another person trapped in the NA scene and can't see past the little bubble you're wrapped up in. That's not to say that foreign teams don't do the same things, but I can't understand what they're saying so I wouldn't know (and probably you for that matter), and if they did make the same mistake as coL and ended up underestimating their opponent well then, they deserve no respect as well.
And coL weren't winning on Nuke and Train and yet they still flaunted their arrogance around. Might be better than being emo but it's still not gonna allow you to take out a team like NiP.
"Suck it bitch!" is no problem. Taunting the other team is no problem.
Saying friberg is bad after he kills you and then making fun of them for being source players while getting dominated is just them being a sore fucking loser.

No one said ONLY the NA scene is arrogant and douchey, but at the very least I bet fnatic weren't underestimating NiP, which is what it boils down to if you'd even read what I've been saying. idc what people say it's how they're feeling when they say it. In fnatic's case they were pissed because of NiP trying to get a redo after losing MR5. That's certainly understandable. You posting these clips without even giving context just shows you have no credible argument other than "hey everyone else is doing it."
This thing where players diss the other team isn't even exclusive to cs. Remember in dota 'the play' from ti2? In the clips you could clearly see dendi yelling at ig after dendis team wipes them. Anyone can tell you dendi didn't say something like wp, he probably said GET FUCKED or something.
It happens all the time, dude. It's a private thing shared between teammates to keep confidence up and keep them in the game. Mentality, man.
There's things you say to the other guy's face and there's things you say between your teammates. You need to understand that distinction.

A BO3 can easily be 150 minutes in CS GO. That is 20% of their available good streaming time. Then setups etc and it takes upwards of 25% of possible time.

From what I heard with counter-strike in Korea valve tried to fuck with the PC bangs (I think something like they were charging too much) so Korea just went "lol no" and made a bunch of knock offs to replace it. Sudden Attack got onto OGN lol
Pistol rounds seem to be delivering 2 eco rounds after it now, wasnt it 1 eco for the losing team in 1.6? I know in scrims i played it was 1 eco after a lost pistol round unless you were buying kevlar/deagle or some shit.
It seems alot more snowbally with it requiring huge plays or you're down 3 rounds from basically losing 1.

IDK about the 1.6 days, but I know that if terrorists loses pistol or the eco afterwards but manages to get the bomb planted, they usually buy on R3

Idk, ive just not seen one lost pistol round where it hasnt ended up with 2 eco rounds after it, except this last game with NiP's huge play, which was a R3 eco for VP instead lol.
Seems a bit harsh of a disadvantage for just 1 round really.
250K?! That's huge. The audience for competitve RTS's really must be going down I wish Quake was still popular, those 1v1 matches were so hype during IEM previously.

Those 250k are crowd funded through ingame purchases of "Esports Cases and Esports Keys" which unlock gun skins. This is the second 250k CSGO tournament funded by this, the first was DH Winter

Apparently NiP haven't played Mirage a lot so VP couldn't study NiP on that map, while VP had played it lots recently. Commentators said NiP spent lots of time yesterday trying to figure out counter-strats for VPs Mirage.

I was a good plan tbh but failed.
Listening to NiP's comms they did have VP figured out, they just got really out-aimed on CT.

Valve (L), they single handedly brought CSGO back from the dead, between weapon paints, GOTV, a much better matchmaking system and big tournaments, CSGO its bigger than ever... i mean, 150k players peak ? are you kidding me ? this game had like less than 10-15k a year ago or so

So how did CSGO get so big all of a sudden?I know crowdfunding and such are nice for the people already playing the game but I don't understand where all the viewer numbers or players come from because unless they changed something about the game CSGO has a super high learning curve.

The learning curve is well a learning curve lol. Sure it's super hard at the top level but low level you don't actually need to know much.
Considering the last ''competitive'' shooter I played was Quake and I played a variety of CoD games before firing up CSGO after a while its quite hard for me ;;. So they succesfully pulled the 1.6 community to CSGO?

I'm also surprised as it got a lot of shit when it came out. No 1.6 player wanted to switch and it was said to be still born. They must have been working hard on it.

Not only the 1.6 community but also the source community. And managing to get both of them to play together is quite a feat. Plus, they got a TON of people completely new to counterstrike, like me :D

CSGO got the "easy to play, hard to master" like few games can, add that to the super friendly drops that make people keep on playing and they let you make the game more personal, and you have a winning formula

Fair enough. Nothing argued that it was better to have it as CT as you can hold the corners tight with it, and that he would prefer the P250 as T to have capability to prefire corners.

NIP COMEBACK BABY BRING ME DUST2
Reminds me of the teamchat they had in MLG in Dota, where they tuned into a player saying "let's just kill this fucking bitching", nobody made a big deal of it.
And i like said, those bomb plants with 3-4 kills by VP, even if by losing the round, was making NiP really poor, not getting the money they would have wanted at this point

VP always gets the bomb plants and kill 3/4 players even if they lose. Means they will always have alright eco where as one loss for CT means they have nothing.

No. The reason why NiP has been on top for so long is because they have been so stable as a team. And why would you replace one of the best entry fragger there is and your in game leader at the same time? It would make absolutely no sense, especially after reaching the finals.

That does seem a bit premature. They have placed second in the most recent major tournaments. There is also plenty of stuff outside the game itself that reflects on how a team is formed. Personalities is very important in team games.

NiP were unstoppable when xizt was a game leader. Have they won any premier tournament under Fiff's command?
And friberg currently looks like a shade of his older self. GTR too, but he has shown he is capable of recovering in the past.
Well counter-strike is a game that plays well at very big events and rarely disappoints.
You can't compare viewership to something like SC where fans are watching shit every single day. With the last 2 250k events in CS the 'vast' majority of people only watched the Lan finals and nothing in between.
And to be honest I think that's how it should be. At least for me, CS is something you get easily burned out on watching. A few huge tournaments a year is best.

The scene was weaker when Xizt was the in game leader, and they were already showing weaker results because of that at the end of his reign.

Fiff as an IGL is very recent, and you can't say that reaching the finals of katowice is a bad result, and its not like they were winning a lot with xizt in the months before they switched. And Friberg hasn't played that bad at all either.
I don't understand why you would want to change anything with the team after making the finals. They just did not played that well as a whole in the finals and thats it.

How many clutches has friberg won for his team at IEM? He used to carry NiP in 1 on 2, 2 on 3 situations countless times in 2013 for comparison. It's not about every other team has suddenly progressed while NiP was stagnating or how would you like to put it.
Because I want NiP to own, right? LGB gave VP twice harder time than NiP, that is not how it's supposed to be.
We have SL LAN Finals as a next clash. Virtus.pro, Titan, Fnatic / HR, NiP as top-4 is basically given. Just imagine if NiP takes 3rd-4th place there, it'll be almost summer, there won't be any time to change the roster before Dreamhack. Do you really want to take the risks giving another chance to underperforming players ?
I, for one, consider such situation unfair to the others Ninjas members. 2014 may be the last year in f0rest's and GTR's career, after all.

Grats to VP that was unexpected. Pasha absolutely killing it....and well on NiP's side Fiff was a no-show in terms of frags. In his shoes I would've just said someone else call the shots for a few rounds while I get my in-game focus and morale up.
