best way is to say you are on an alt though imo.

So far I haven't really even had the opportunity. It's not like people msg me and have a conversation with me... on oqueue I am clicking on wait list and just not hearing anything. In trade chat I am entering what I am 'looking for,' so there isn't an opportunity to lie my way in lol.
I haven't tried openraid before.

Try openraid? The problem is probably ilvl. Its almost impossible to get into a group without massively overgearing the content which is not possible if you are catching up as a new player without a guild to boost you.

I'm currently a 557 BM hunter... I'd think that's high enough to get in to at least some of the groups, but perhaps I'm 6 months out of date haha

Use Openraid. I'd ask one of my old guilds to run you through but we switched to Alliance :|

Do I have to invite people who are 13/14 like me, only?

not really
if you're RLing your own groups, as long as you don't die to stupid shit that usually kills most pugs (iron star/annihilate/not interrupting MCs/etc), it's very easy to put together a overgeared group capable of one-shotting with oqueue, openraid and other raids.
it gets easier on the weekend, since most guys have done their guild's main raids by then, so find a 580 tank+solo heal, stack both phases and go nuts
edit: question for people in the WoD beta - how much easier is HM SoO at level 100?

well, you didn't specify lockouts in your first post.
both of them will zone into 13/14 regardless of who enters first

I haven't tried it but that seems weird to me.
Sorry for coming to this discussion with such a limited knowledge, but I just have so little experience with normal mode raiding that I haven't encountered these situations before. Fortunately I know enough to realize to look into these types of things prior to putting together a group of 10 random people and realizing I am doing something wrong and wasting everyone's time. Perhaps you can understand why I'm hesitant to RL though :p

Perhaps you can understand why I'm hesitant to RL though :p Yes that is correct, you can skip bosses if you join a raid from a RL who is further along. Note however that others who join are only saved to the new boss # if you kill a boss. So say your 12/14 joins a 13/14 raid and they fail to kill Garrosh the 12/14 is still saved to a 12/14 raid. Only if they kill Garrosh will he be saved to a 14/14 raid.
Heroic works differently from this tho with regards to ID. You can only ever be in 1 Heroic raid ID. So if you join a Heroic raid and clear 13 bosses you cannot join another raid from a different group to kill the 14th boss. You can only enter a raid with people who were in the original group or people who are currently not saved to Heroic. And this saving happens when they enter, not when a boss dies so a new person entering this raid would have 50sec (there is a popup for it that lasts this long) to get out to be saved to 13/14 heroic.

just make sure you specify when you're pugging that you are doing garrosh only

Yea I would put into chat "557 Hunter LF Normal SOO @ Garrosh" or something like that.... on OQ I would click on groups that are 13/14. I extended the raid lock because I currently care more about finally finishing normal SOO than I do getting more loot next week.

"Hunter LF group Garrosh only, geared/experienced"
don't mention you don't have good gear(not sure if you do actually :<) or that you don't have the achievement for best results.
