I really think this will have the capacity to surpass Starbow. Currently the RTS market is painfully stagnant with no competition for SC2 in sight. An "HD texture" remake of Warcraft III might actually bring back quite a few people to the RTS scene. Provided ofc, if people will hear about this when it's released. This will need an initial boom to spread the word and a stable playerbase for the first few months.
Maybe if they could get Grubby for a showmatch and Day[9] & Rotti to cast it and popularise it early on we could get a nice resurgence. But I'm confident this UMS can easily beat Starbow anyday :D

Probably too early to say. All we have so far is a video (albeit a really good-looking one), with a gameplay video to follow in the next few days. I think that will give us more info about what is to come.

I can talk to a few people and see if we can get something going when they release it. A showmatch of sorts.

I have been playing wc3 for years before sc2 was released. I jumped in 2010 on the sc2 hype train to never touch wc3 again until two days ago. I feel wc3 offers so much more in-depth gameplay and besides that, the graphics do still look pretty good.
I was surprised when I noticed wc3 search times (I played 4v4 on North) are significantly shorter than sc2 (4v4) search times.

This thread is awesome :D I have no idea if they will manage to finish that remake, but I hope they do - it would be really cool to see it in SC2 :D Granted, the SC2 custom games/arcade/open games thing is still a utter disappointment and I don't know why blizzard won't just admit they were wrong and go back to the old style of doing things there, and the whole social feel of SC2 is still pretty poor compared to the older bnets, but, okay I'm going off topic sorry :D

It would be really cool to see this finish, I hope it does :D

Are there any newbies here? I've always liked WC3 but never played it a whole lot on a competitive level, mostly because I have no idea what I'm doing. If anyone wants to play some 1v1's for fun and learn the game a bit, hit me up.

Hey, I'm down to play anytime. I got top 100 on US East, but that was at least a decade ago now. Would love to re-learn the game. Maybe we could get a pretty solid group going?

I heard there was another server like Fish / ICCUP for Brood War.

you can watch chinese wc3 streams here. interestingly th000 and lucifer get up to 6000 and 3000 viewers respectively,
which can easily match Sc2 viewing numbers.

finally tried out w3arena, ditto about no hackers. Played about 11 games and 3 without a doubt were blatant maphackers

I'd imagine there are indeed a few maphackers.

At the time when I wrote OP, there was none (googled it back then, found several instances of people asking for it, always answered with "there is no hack for w3arena"). But now, wouldn't surprise me.

However, given the small size of the community and the active staff, I can't imagine hackers staying on board for very long. They probably get swiftly reported and banned.

Reinstalled it earlier this year and tried out. It appears wc3 has long absolutely nothing of its potential to make me rage . It's probably time to finally let it be before I lose all selfrespect and start playing ne or orc with blademaster.
