Greetings;
This topic is to inform you of your opportunity to witness one of the greatest video competitions of the 21st century. On September 1, 2011 at 10:00 PM EDT, the world's four greatest Mario players of all time will be clashing in a head-to-head duel--winner takes all. Each of the four champions will be streaming his play live via various streaming sites, and expert commentary will be provided by our resident Mario analyst.
The competition itself is straightforward enough: the four champions will each play SMB3X, a hacked version of Super Mario World, for three hours nonstop beginning at 10:00 PM and ending at 1:00 AM the next day. Whichever player has advanced farthest in the game at that time will be declared the champion. Should a player at any time actually finish the entire game, he will be immediately declared the winner and the competition will end.
This year, the stakes have been raised, literally: each competitor in the tournament has put up $20,000 of his own money for the prize pool, with the winner taking the lion's share, all $80,000.
Here's a little information about each of the champions:
LordOfDabu--Dabu is a legend in the GameFAQs community, having contributed much to the site both as a moderator and a content contributor. Now well over age 30, as (by far) the oldest of the four champions, he has enormous experience in the world of Mario. He will also draw on his extensive knowledge of all video games as he attempts to prove that he's still got it. Many consider Dabu to be the favorite in this competition due to his incredible brain, which is more than three pounds heavier than an average human brain. Outside of gaming, Dabu is a known philanthropist, having donated subway fare to black people in New York on several occasions (with minimal coercion). It's also noteworthy that Dabu is the reigning World Mario Champion, although there was a significant amount of controversy over the results of last year's competition.
SSJ4Sonic--Sonic has proven himself time again in various Starcraft competitions, most notably in the 2003 Olympus OGN Starleague where he narrowly finished out of the top four. He's also renowned for an uncanny ability to become expert-level at any game in a very short time. A three time Go world champion and Honinbo title holder, Sonic looks to expand his domination to the platforming genre in this Mario competition. No stranger to the series, Sonic is one of only four people in the entire world who can truthfully claim to have completed every official Mario game in existence with a 100% completion ratio--all done with only one hand. Though he hasn't received the same hype as Dabu, one would have to be a fool to count Sonic out. As the reigning runner-up, Sonic is here to prove that last year was merely a fluke.
GoShox1998--The only prepubescent of our four champions, Shox's deeds have been well documented on teamliquid ever since his debut in 2005 as a 7 year old Starcraft prodigy. After achieving A- on ICCUP without losing a game in 2009, he attempted to become a professional, but he was informed by KESPA officials that he was both too young and too white to compete in the big leagues. Infuriated, he swore off Starcraft forever, and now, years later, he's looking to make a splash in the world of console gaming. Many predict that although Shox's raw talent for gaming is unmatched by any of his competitors, his lack of experience in classic NES-style gameplay will even the playing field. Shox has requested that if any females tune in to watch the competition that he not be told of their presence since girls make him nervous. Very nervous.
Goose--Our final champion is a goose. Lacking opposable thumbs, higher-order thinking, and mammalian heritage, our resident experts have all but ruled him out as a serious competitor. His caretaker sent me this message for his biography: "masters degree,disc golf skill, conqueror of 14,000 ft elevation mountains, conqueror of rad gamez". How a goose achieved any of this is a mystery to all of us.

A little bit about our commentator, Snowster--While many kids get a bicycle or a skateboard for their 5th birthday, Snowster's parents simply gave him a microphone. The arrow to his bow, Snowster found a natural gift for commentating on just about anything he came across, be it sports matches, horse racing, dog fighting, and even beauty pageants. It soon came to pass that it was rarer for Snowster NOT to have a microphone in his hand, and whenever he opens his mouth, people listen to his velvety voice with wide-eyed adoration.
Be sure to tune in at 10:00 EDT to witness this once in a lifetime event!
