You can usually tell when you are desynced. It's not that hard to spot, the real problem is desyncing in a turbo race, not only is it much harder to tell if you are out of sync or not, it's also 10x more dangerous. And even if you /oos instantly, in the case of Brutus, if it syncs you back right in front of him you will get one-shotted, irrespective of how you react or how fast you realize that you are desynced. Turbo Brutus is pretty much all over the place, there is no way of telling where he actually is at any given point in time, because he constantly desyncs from one end of the room to the other. You can hide behind a wall but if you /oos it might just resync you back into the middle of the room to exactly where he is standing. It's absurd and hard to explain, you would have to experience it first hand.

Maybe there's some trick to be learned there? I watch his stream pretty much everyday and his reaction is no different to my own. The only difference is that his desyncs happen about 10x less frequently and they are alot less severe. I'm not even kidding. I have many clanmates who share this experience with me, so I doub I'm just having delusions. There definitely are some players who get hit alot less frequently by ridiculous desync, why I don't know. distance from the server maby?
I considered that, but my ping is consistently in the 30-50 range, even when I'm out of sync. It really doesn't make any sense to me. I never have any spikes in ping, it's always consistent and yet I desync.

The best desync prevention is never to cast a targeted skill. Always shift-cast. If you click a mob to cast for example cleave or fireball, if you're not in range or LOS you will move to cast the skill. It may seem that the mob is next to you or in LOS while in fact on the server you're character is moving too him..
If you shift-cast, you always cast at your current location, and thus can't cause desynced movement of your char.
|
I don't think I ever use any skill without shift in any indoor area. Outside it's useful for firing at mobs at the edge of the screen, as shift-cast often misses, but you're absolutely right about this.
However, I doubt anyone having any success in a race doesn't know that yet. It's basically impossible to rush and survive without top 3 unit control, aka shift stutter step.
|
Just stating it since a lot of people here seem to complain about desync. I haven't had problems with it in ages. You just mentally have to build a list of do's and don'ts versus desync.
|
Shift casting makes absolutely no difference vs. turbo brutus absolutely none. Nobody is complaining that the desync is too difficult to deal with outside of turbo races. That's just a strawman argument. A perfect example of a strawman actually. Thank you for that.
|
It actually greatly affects it. If you right click him you desync your own location besides that of brutus causing you to move towards him. If you think shift casting makes no difference vs turbo brutus you have a bad understanding of game/desync mechanics. Thank you for your passive aggressiveness.

All his posts are that way. But if Brutus was ramming his rusty hook (no lube) in your behind all the time you'd cry like a little bitch too!

#15 ranger in the 12 minute today. Not bad I guess? I messed up in lower submerged and logged out before I got to the WP and had to walk back. I decided just to farm lower and upper after I messed it up. What is the best strategy for 12 minutes right now?
|
Heh, got 4th Ranger (70th) out of white items in the 12 min race...
It was pretty laggy somehow. As in monsters would take damage of the first cleave when the 2nd cleave is done. Pretty confusing but apparently not that dangerous.
As for strats, I took cleave, got a white spike off hillock, bought a rusted sword with a red socket for cleave (no corroded blade for sale), ran to mud waypoint, went back to sell junk and buy an iron ring, then rushed for Ledge. Almost died twice to teleporting Roahs.

FUCK
I just died at the boss of the skeleton cave as top ~10 ranger. GODDAMN AND THIS RUN WAS SO AWESOME T_T
I literally just took my saphire rings of assuming I'm done with cold damage since I haven't played this area before. SIGH. Had a rare quiver drop from the snake boss and ever since I just crushed and my only enemy was finding exits.
Welp. =(
Edit: SIGH. That death turned me into #14 ranger and 77 overall. So pissed, time to learn areas further in to not let this happen again. =/

I competed too but managed to die to Rhoas and quitted after.

Heh, woke up late and got the most insane gear all race long.. finished 25th, top 10 ranger. I could have easily had top 20 if I played well, and level 20+ with the extra minutes. Had 350hp and 150RoA dps at the start of the ribbon level, with over 20% Lightning Resist. Glorious.
Evo, that glacial hammer skeleton is the single thing I dread the most in the entire race. No Sapphire will save you. You simply have to have the dps to kite it down before your flasks expires. With 100dps, it's about 10 shots, so the whole screen + 1 quicksilver shot. And by kite it down I mean one screen away. He desyncs like crazy.

Congrats, 25th is pretty nice. Wow, Rangers are about to become mainstream, lol. 25th and still only 8th ranger O_o
Didn't play in the last one as i couldn't Too bad, as Goratha died and i potentially could've made top3 Mara (given my former finishes).

Onslaught Brutus desync is bad enough (though definitely beatable if you just cheese health), I can't imagine how annoying turbo would be. Those chains are like a roller-coaster.
Can you imagine how much more annoying desync must be for the monsters though? Poor guys. They all probably blame desync when they die.

Just got 27th overall in the 1h BLAMT Solo, had to remake after 10 mins because I died. Definitely the most brutal race in existence.

Heh, I had a better run than this a few events ago and got 40th+. There were simply a lot less players this early on a Monday. Go figure.
Rangers have always been really good, but it's really make or break. You have to get lucky on gear, otherwise you do nothing, but if you do, they're the safest/deadliest class in this race.

Did they give a date on the ranger tree changes? A quick look into the news gave me nothing exact, and it might make rangers much less gear dependant

I think they are most likely just gonna fix the lower half of the tree and make small adjustments to the top half of it. Top half gives you pure physical damage and atk-speed but absolutely no health. bottom half of the tree is just some more or less garbage eva nodes with a couple life nodes and no dmg boost.
They can't change the top half too much because that's what gives rangers a fair shot in shorter races. I honestly think the bottom of the ranger tree is what needs to be primarily fixed, maybe give them some sort of (elemental?) dmg nodes instead of the eva and put some eva on top of the life nodes.
Here is how I see it. Instead of the almost 50% total evasion nodes, put some % weapon elemental damage nodes there. Instead of the crappy 6% life nodes, make them 6% life + 10% eva each and let the third one be similar to heart of the gladitor with 20 base life and 10 strength or something.
This would result in rangers not becoming any stronger in races, because you rely on phys damage as ranger, not elemental damage (in short races), but it would greatly buff rangers in the endgame, because this is where most rangers will want ele damage instead of phys damage. So the bottom half would be the solid-endgame focused route, the top half would be the high dps more squishy race route.
I still think there should be a couple life nodes in the top half of the bracket, instead of both the branches below perfect aim being dmg focused, one could be damage focused and the other could have some low % life nodes (6-8%), as an option in case you don't find max life gear on a race. That would make rangers in races alot less gear dependant, at least when it comes to the defensive aspect of it. And instead of that 12% accuracy node being mandatory for the top half, they could put 1-2 base phys damage (in case someone doesn't get an iron ring in a race) in there and move that node to the side and make both nodes optional (you either take the accuracy or phys and taking one of the two allows you to get to perfect aim).
