The biggest problem for rangers is actually getting to RoA and getting first quiver I found Yeah split arrow isn't all that great. But once you get to lvl 4 you are fine. You are right that you need some sort of dmg on your gear or else you are short on mana (I sometimes get hard RNG-owned, getting no quiver or iron rings), but on average I think rangers are far superior to most other classes. (with the exception of marauder and duelist) I just don't understand all the whining about rangers, when you look at witches they are the ones actually getting fu**ed.

It's obvious that Duelists are the best, but from my own experience (playing Ranger, Duelist and Witch - consistently placing top 100 overall and top 10 for every class) I think Rangers aren't much worse than Duelists. Witches on the other hand are easily the worst race class, by a long shot. I got to lvl 17 in the last descent race with a ranger and it wasn't very difficult at all, I could have easily placed much higher, but it was my first descent with ranger and I heard everyone say how bad they are so I though I would have to take it slow. Well, I shouldn't have. I could have easily made lvl 19-20 had I not listened to all the people saying rangers are weak. Once you get rain of arrows and 2 iron rings you pretty much 2 shot any mob pack. stack some life gear and you are good to go. Just take perfect aim and greater impact key nodes with all the +atk speed and +phys damage nodes nearby and if you have a semi-decent bow you'll be one shoting most mob packs later on, only problem is finding a decent bow, but if you get a decent bow (and with all the alchs that's definitely a possibility) ranger is pretty much beast. Most of my clanmates I talk to that play ranger just run around with crappy crude bows at lvl 10, they don't pick up long bows and alch them, which is the biggest mistake most ranger players make. often times a white long bow does significantly more damage than a rare crude bow and in some cases even a short bow( depending on rolls). long bows have insane flat phys damage, sure they attack a little slower, but with all the +% phys damage nodes you get on ranger you can easily have 100dps at lvl 10-12. edit: just look at top 3 per class, this confirms exactly what I'm saying. Duelists are best (and easiest), rangers are pretty solid and witches just suck. http://www.pathofexile.com/signature-races/ladder How do you play the first 2 areas with that? They even scared me on a Duelist so far. ;;

Evo, I think a short bow is better in the frozen abyss anyway. Long bow is too slow, so you can't fire into a room until you're sure there's no suicide mob. With a short bow you can fire and quicksilver + run out if it's nasty. At the end of the zone, you get a quiver, and hopefully you get good damage on it when you alch it, so being stuck with a short bow until level 15 really isn't a problem, considering how easy the next zones are. Also, the monkey zone is nice, but they give very little XP. The skeleton zone is where it's at. It's dangerous due to elemental damage, but they're slow and give good XP. Nugi almost got level 23 this run. I might actually take a look at that VoD, should be interesting.

Previous char was 69 freeze pulse marauder but he didnt die I just got bored of him and decided to reroll summoner leveling as discharge. First kinda significant hard core death I've had as it was the first time I had a character get that far and was figuring out maps and such. I was amazed at how fast currency/ items were coming in though, on my summoner had around 21% IQ and 200% IR on my spectres. I still have a 80% 3 link searing touch I can use for releveling and it shouldn't be too hard, its kinda nice how other than andvarius summoners are pretty cheap to do and those are just for bonus rarity. It doesn't really pick up until your around act 3 merci though.

I unfortunately missed the start of the race (played a 55 min TvT LOL) so I watched Bob's stream instead. It's insane how fast the clear speed on RoA is even with the crappy gear he got. Will definitely play ranger again in the next descent race. As for the person asking how to clear the first two zones with split arrow. The answer is you don't. You pretty much just kite the little bugs with split arrow and try to level that way and only ever attack low HP mobs until you have rain of arrows. Never focus the brood mothers or skelly dinosaurs, just low HP mobs and you can kill the first boss (the snake) with burning arrow pretty easily. I think most ranger skip the second boss, but if you get an iron ring you can kill that guy too.

What made the difference between my runs and his is mostly that my start isn't as good. But i am also not playing Duelist. Whatever, i think i learned from watching to skip even less. He almost fully cleared the ape + skelly level and also killed lots of the discharger level (where he almost died despite having an lightning res ring lol). I guess that's important cause else you'll end up dying in the flame sentinels level, which has been killing me in my good races. checking the VOD again he got Sadima's touch from the boss in the first zone, lolol... that item tripples your dps at that time

From what I've seen you actually have to clear most of the higher normal/lowercruel zones, or else you will be too low level if you get into the higher zones. I think cruel to merc is a 3lvl jump, so if you are under lvl 21 you get diminished returns in EXP aswell.

I've been looking for a Increased Projectiles # gem forever, and there are loads more. My witch is starting to have serious problems outputting damage in Act 1 Cruel, and I'm not sure what else I can do to frontload damage but start getting good support gems. Unfortunately, they are rarer than anything else I've seen and my best drop so far, a Fork gem, simply isn't cutting it.

LMP is available to the witch only from the Act 2 Normal quest, so if you missed that, you're kinda boned. GMP is a drop only gem. Consider using trade chat to get gems. Fortunately, gem prices are almost set in stone, so trading for them is relatively painless. Expect to pay 1 alch to 1 chaos for a non-quality gem depending on popularity.

Crit chance and multiplier is very simple to include actually. If you have a 20% chance to crit for 200% damage then it's just like having a 20% more damage multiplier (.2*2+(1-.2)*1=1.2) {crit chance*multipler+(1-critchance)*1=average damage gained}. It gets a bit more tricky for physical builds when you have to include double accuracy rolls, but the game is still does the average.

I paid a fair price for a 5 off perfect searing, 6 socketed in 20 jewelers, turned 200 alts into fusings along with another 120 jewelers, maybe thats more than 90 fusings, but, no luck. I'm hoping to find some sick item I can put up as a prize for linking it for me, but right now that's out of reach.
