Normally you have 100% of your base crit chance. Then you add on your %increases from passives and gear. Base crit chance of wands can be like 11%, spark 4%, discharge 8% etc. Another thing people don't know about crit, is that 100% crit multiplier = 150% crit damage since critical hits do 150% of the hit as a base. Alright, okay cool. Also in regards to how accuracy and crit strike percentage works. So if I have 80% chance to hit, and 10% chance to crit; Are these independent values? Meaning 10% of all attacks (whether it hits or not) does "critical dmg"; or is it only 10% of attacks of attacks that hit?
|
If you have 80% to hit and 10% to crit, you'll hit 73.6% for normal damage, and 6.4% for crit damage. It basically goes like this: Does the attack hit? *Accuracy check* Yes -> Is it a crit? *Crit check* Yes -> Crit confirmed? *2nd Accuracy check*

What??? that second accuracy chance seems a excessive. Okay, thanks for clarifying the crit mechanics.
|
I had no idea evasion made crits roll twice. Accuracy is much more important than I thought.

I didn't play PoE for some months, can someone explain to me what the big changes are since the introduction of the first races?

Hey all, just started leveling a Fire Witch (Fireball + Firetrap) after not playing a few months, and am not really sure how to link up my skills. I intend to use Firetrap as the main aoe spell, and Fireball as single target with ignite crits being the bulk of the dps.
For a 5L Fireball, is Fireball + Life Leech + Increased Critical Damage + Elemental Proliferation + Fire Pen a good combo? I'm intrigued with Increased Burning Damage but haven't gotten a chance to test it out.
Also, does firepen / increased burning damage work with fire trap? Am a little lost on how to link the Fire trap other than having conc effect.
edit: Does the change to Lightning Warp mean that leveling it up causes it to warp faster?

So, even when an attack hits me, I can dodge the Crit? (if the hit is a crit as well) Did I understand that right? And are you sure? ;o
Any1 else wonder what you should do with your RF marauder? Made this forum post: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/410777
If you guys know any nice Marauder Builds let me know ;D (but plx read the thread before answering)

Gonna use http://www.exilepro.com/builds/ranger/496-ranger-immortal-lightning-arrow build for the new Annihilation league, but so far it's going pretty slow. I played a FP shadow in softcore, and damn is everything slow in comparison. I'm pretty sure I'm doing something wrong tho.
So far, I have Lightning Arrow linked with LMP and Fork since Chain is crazy expencive atm. I'm contantly out of mana, aoe clear is pretty poor, also I cant really survive stuff that I could with a FP build (obviously, but still an unwelcome change) so I"m spending lots of time kiting.
I'm aware that kitting and general lack of tankyness is to be expected of a ranger class, but damn, didn't think it would be this different.
Also, what kind of weapon should I go for? I bought a bow with around 20-60 phys and 20-50 ele dmg for lvl 35 waiting for me once I get 4 more lvls, is that a good purchase? Also, I was told I should stack hp on all of my gear instead of going for damage on lets say rings. amulet and belt?

Blind, Block or Acrobatics do not count, and I'm not sure how Arrow Dodging affects crits.

For fireball, I think LMP and GMP are still your best bet for single target damage. Shotgunning simply is that good. Otherwise, I've seen people use a 2nd firetrap with concentrated effect, increased burn/chance to ignite for single target, with a staff that gives +2 to fire skills, either the unique or a godly rare.

Fork isn't a replacement for Chain. You'll probably increase your damage by simply removing it unless you have things lined up behind the target properly, especially if you replace it with WED. All that said, LA is pretty terrible in terms of leveling speed. I would use poison arrow until at least merciless with a +bow gem levels bow. LA doesn't work as well without chain due to the way the additional hits interact.
In terms of weapons you should value attack speed very highly. The grove bow is the best bow (for that level) with it's 1.55 attack speed; more so after you're using WED, Wrath, and Anger which probably isn't true at level 35.
Stacking health is the safe play, but keep in mind that these stats aren't mutually exclusive. Having multiple pieces of gear is very beneficial so you could keep the highest health belt you find along with a hybrid and full on damage jewelry (yes belts are jewelry in PoE).

The builds in this game are honestly too complicated...
Mechanicswise I have always been good but I just want a solid build that I can use to farm in HC while I research every other build I want to play and grind the gear required for it.
I'm playing Onslaught of course.

I'm playing Onslaught of course. I know how you feel. But a lot of this game is making new characters all the time. So don't feel pressed to get it right the first time.

If by first time you mean about the 10th...
then sure, I agree

Game is still in beta. Even if you get it right now. Chances are it's not going to stay viable or be as good as it is now.

Is there a site people use for currency relations? poeex was good until it started selling orbs, I'm so clueless to prices in PoE I'm ashamed...
How much is a 7% spark gem worth? Got it 15mins ago.

I'm playing Onslaught of course. Isn't LA/Split arrow still simple/super safe to play?

I'm guessing that's lightning arrow. I may have to look into it.

I suggest you go Fireball + Ele prolif + Increased burn dmg + Fire Pen + Chance to ignite. Then get searing touch and the increased burn damage nodes above templar.
There is no life leech but imo you should try using shield regen or life regen.

There was a good guide to it posted a few posts ago as well if you want to copy something. LA has gotten nerfed since that guide was made though so you aren't as invulnerable as before.

I'm a level 58 Marauder on Anarchy right now. Can't find anyone to do Merciless Vaal Ruins -> Vaal with. :/
Also, looking to buy: -High ilvl (50+) Quill Rain, trying to get a 5L one. -Fusings/Chroms -Goldrimm Unique Helm -High Q% Explosive Arrow
IGN is same as my username, about to go afk for a couple hours though.
