Zero chests after 6-8 runs, and the Scribe's Racks haven't dropped anything good (one literally dropped nothing). I have zero 66 maps, and only 5 67s and a couple of 68s. What should I do?
Just do the 67s and roll some high quantity? Otherwise just buy a couple 66s, they're very cheap. IMO it is worth it to chisel and spend a good few alterations on even lower level maps if you are running low and want to stay in maps. Last alternative is to join map teams, where you won't get map drops, but you get more loot and XP.

(My) Map drop RNG is terrible. I once had around 20 maps between 68 and 72 and was running all of the 70+ with Alchs and partly with Chisels (i didn't mind dying on those, since i'm lvl 84 already and don't really level anymore except if really want to which i don't). Now i'm left with only 66 and 67 maps. Sometimes you get 5 out of one, sometimes you go into 10 maps and go out with 0-2 maps.
I can basically play any affix so i was usually playing >40% quantity maps or maps with Maze/Rare/Blue or Horde. In the end i was doing it like suggested at http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/339977. Didn't help much.
Now of course playing 66 maps isn't very fun anymore. Well i still do it from time to time, but i'm mostly racing nowadays cause it's more fun to me. Oh and creating new chars is also fun sometimes.
From what i read they want maps to get new items, not necessarily to level. I like Maps for challenge (as well as for leveling and drops of course), but 66/67 maps aren't challenging after a while.

Weird. I haven't had any issues since they buffed the map drop-rate, and I usually don't chisel - and only alch a few of them. I do spend a few alterations though to get good rolls.
|
Yeah i didn't have issues at all too, but it can happen to everyone. I also use basically up to 20 alterations even on 66 maps if they roll shitty affixes all the time (usually not the case). I once had a map pool of around 40 maps, but it went down to like 10 maps.

Maps just need zone level 60 to drop. level 59 area+2 from unique is over 60.

Yo, just wanted to let you know that peoxplorer is back online!
On other news, I started playing HC, and I REALLY cant think going back to SC, even though I usually die like a noob around lvl 30 ^^. Last character was 45 and got destroyed by explosive arrows. Then I did a shadow freeze pulse. I crafted awesome weapons and shield, and was completely destroying everything. But I got too confident, ran into a crazy room with flicker mobs, and got destroyed ^^.

My map pool started to get alot more consistent when I stopped running rare monsters, or pack size. Even magic monster if it has a bad mod with it, I seem to not get any maps. Over 30% Quantity seems to be much more consistent, and also saves you alot of alterations, assuming you can run most mods.

Considering i ran 3 maps with over 100 quantity and gained only 1 map out of them, i want to believe that quantiy isn't guaranteeing map drops either. That said i gained my 40+ maps while mostly wanting to play maze/rare/magic. Nowadays (like said i only have about 10 maps atm) i run more quantity maps but it doesn't seem better (to me).

Anyone have tips for gathering Alterations without spending currency? I'm always completely out of them on account of trying to always get Maze/Massive on certain maps (Grotto/Sewer/Spider Lair mostly). I'm picking up and IDing every magic item I find in maps, but I still find myself coming up short.
Besides getting favourable affixes, my map pool has stabilized amazingly, and I have enough 67 maps to progress and start building my 68 pool.

Put on some IIQ and run cruel merveill. Put up TP right outside cavern of wrath (so you run cavern of anger just once) unless I have those names reversed. Then you just blitz to her lair, kill her, pick up all yellows/fill up with blues. Only takes a few minutes per run, and you'll get like 3-4 uniques per hour as well.

Merveil is suck a joke. max on cold resist and you can literally face roll even on merciless. Probably the easiest boss in the game. Brutus at least can 2 shot you if you don't look out, merveil can freeze you for 4 seconds, hit you 5 times and you are still fine

Well if you're spending a wisdom scroll on every magic item you find, that's a lot of wisdom scrolls that could be turned into portal->trans->augs->alts. Then again I'm no expert on the matter.

What you do is you have 5 alts in the instance as well to boost the drops. You just pick up the small rares and ID those. Now and then you have to buy 40 transmutes for an alch. 1 alch = 160 wisdom scrolls. Definetly worth it.

Identifying like one inventory of rares/blues usually gives 2-4 Alterations and some Alchemy Shards or Augmentation Orbs. I haven't been on a shortage for Alterations Orbs yet, although i only pick up every rare and identify&sell them (partly also use them for the Chaos recipes). If you have even a tiny bit of quantity you should have at least one inventory full of rares after a map, although i found playing solo usually gives you more rares for yourself than playing in a party.

I see.
Still though, I rather not spend portal scrolls and time vendoring when i could be killing stuff, but either way works I guess.

You need 336 wisdom scrolls to buy 1 alt from the vendor..

Taking a break and leveling a new character is probably the best way to farm alterations. I'd sooner just drop a chaos on 20 if I wanted to resume mapping though.
I also don't feel like rolling specific affixes on 66/67 is worth the currency because you're pretty much spending an entire map, possibly two at that point due to their low cost (alch/chaos, less in bundle deals).
I accept that it will take me about 40 alterations to maze a map and 2 chaos could buy me 2-3 67 maps.

You can now play unidentified Maps by using them in the map device. There’s a 30% quantity bonus, but you can’t see what mods they have while playing them. This doesn’t apply to unique maps.
Now that is interesting. Will make low level maps a lot more interesting after you can do pretty much any mod. Kinda risky though if you're doing say Dungeon and you end up getting a cold damage Brutus or something ^_^ or blood magic if you're CI.
