But shouldn't soloing be as affordable as grouping? It's kinda shitty to make a game and have a solution to the only end game in town be "hope you have a trustworthy group!". I get that these can be games where people socialize but if there's someone playing who just plays totally odd hours to not have people to group with, should they be punished more severely than a person who has a group of people to share maps with?

Groups have been OP for a while, and they haven't dealt with it. It's not high on the list. This is still beta, and there will be ~1.5 more acts at release. Balancing groups vs solo is hard when 40+ skills and high level content isn't out yet.

That is a pretty godly LS templar mace. Pretty much perfect but it's not a very good build in general. I'd just save it.

Today I attempted to solo Cruel Vaal. Level 50 2h marauder (planning on switching to bow later on, but my dps is crap at the moment), 2.1k life, 1.1k armor without determination.
So things are going fine, I'm keeping mob numbers down, and Vaal's taking decent damage. And then, I take a stupid risk to get in an extra hit, and eat a smash. I survived with a sliver of health left in the globe. Holy fuck. I was so glad I decided to roll a new fire resist ring before this.
I eat a couple more smashes later on in the fight before I learn to stop being retarded. But I did manage to beat him in the end.
Later on, I had to fight Vaal again because I didn't get the next waypoint (I thought it was like Brutus where you get it automatically, but guess not). And this time, I didn't take any smashes. So I guess it was a good, if gut-wrenching, experience.

Hey, started HC now after sandboxing for a month in SC. Currently only lv32 Bowrauder, waiting for a friend who died randomly at 30 to be back to 30
Account: bluQuh Build: Bowrauder / RoA-Pointblank Other: Lookin for some dudes to faceroll maps and endcontent in couple of days. Online mostly from 10am-2am CET (my friend rerolled FP-Templar, since he found a 11q FP )

and where should i get a grp? had few people but most stopped playing already or switched to hc.
also shouldnt mapdrops be the same solo?

Cyclone has been out for a while but I heard a lot of conflicting opinions. Anyone using it as their main skill, or is it a for fun skill for alts?
|
It's boring as fuck, seems to be the main complaint. But they seem to purposefully introduce skills in a weak state, just in case it turns out to be really good anyway. Then they buff it, like they did with incinerate.

It looks hilariously clunky to use. It really shows how bad the combat engine of the game is.

Groups get 35% IIQ per-player (unless this was changed at some point when I wasn't paying attention), more items equals more chances for maps to drop, in core groups the map maker gets all map drops.
I've never had issues getting map groups then again I have a large friend pool from a year at the top of closed beta and alpha. However I would assume there are plenty of people in the same position as you getting tired of losing money on solo maps, throw some posts on forums to get a static group going, TL and the PoE forums are a good place to start.
I personally don't like cyclone for the same reason I never cared for WW in d2, you get the urge to ww right into a massive group, and find yourself in a very bad spot.

what are you waiting for to switch then ? lol jk..
but to answer your questions finding a group usually isnt too bad the way i got started was by making buddys while lvling and also pugging 66 maps and friending the people who i saw where trust worthy and going from there.
and yes map drop rates are the same if in a group or solo. Only thing that can change the drop rate of map are the map mods.
edit:Just noticed some1 posted a conflicting answer above me but im almost 100% sure im correct. I read it from a GGG post my friend gave me a link to but i'll see if I can find it.

the more maps in groups part is new to me. also i solod quite a bunch of maps with my brothers char standing in the map so it basicly was 2player.
for grps.. well i asked for people to map like evry post in this thread but only 2 answered that and both dont play anymore. guess i have to start trusting randoms..

Afaik that is simply wrong for maps. Mapdrops dont increase with playernumber. Not 100% certain but I remember reading about that on poe.com.

There's been dev answers that say that maps don't drop more with more people in the map and that only the quantity bonus on the map itself affect the drops of maps.
http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/55194
Under Map Drops Under the new system, there is an exception: the drop rate of the Map items themselves is not increased by the additional players (all other items drops in the area are still increased, of course). A Map has the same chance of yielding other Maps regardless of how many players are in it. This is because a single Map item can be used by a whole party, unlike other items that can only be used by one player. The item quantity bonus that a Map has (due to its Mods) will affect the drop rate of Map items within that Map.

Ouch! Account got hacked.
They charged 3 $250 charges, 1 $100, and 1 $10.
Doesn't seem to be anymore account activity... so someone changed my email and then hacked the account.
Trying to fix now. Had 11 days played, hopefully get account back! The only thing charged so far is PoE stuff.
|
The group bonus doesn't apply to map drops, but you do get more items, currencies and XP out of maps that way. Which is why running solo maps is pretty wasteful, unless you run 66 maps to try and get 67-68 maps for your group.
