Don't try and craft wands unless you have a lot of spare wealth, wands and daggers are just about the most random pieces of gear (they can roll pretty much any stat). Just wait for drops or buy off trade chat.
The core you want is EK Chain and Added X Damage (Usually fire). The 4th one is usually mana leech if you run a lot of auras because spamming EK owns your mana pool like no other and then Faster Projectiles is a good 5th. The added range from FP is nice but you don't really need the safety that range provides until merciless really and I found the bonus damage from Added Fire was quite nice for farming.

Ok, my Trap Templar is now lvl 58, currently farming Fellshrine merciless. My skillset is Fireball+LMP+Fire penetration. Then Spell Totem+Arc (Q10%)+faster casting+Elemental proliferation. Then in my Searing Touch I got 2 fire traps+Increased AoE (I lack jewelers and fusions to get the sockets on staff to more then 3L); plan is to add fire penetration eventually as well as Increased Critical damage (and if I get lucky and ever get a 6L and 3 green sockets then 3 fire traps). I also have a reduced mana+Clarity+Purity+Hatred. I also have Discipline on a side. My curse is Temporal Chains. For tough enemies I got 2 bear traps+Added Fire damage (+bonus damage from hatred).
With fire traps I one shot(or 1 trap :D) normal enemies, 2 shot blue. If they are fire resistant I throw down my totem first and use temporal. Also if they are fast or charging/jumping I use totem to gather them around totem so I can fire trap them all. I must say fighting in areas with charging/jumping enemies is intense and fun. I throw fire traps half a screen away and cast a totem next to it. If enemies are near they charge the totem and die by traps. Rinse and repeat :D
I know I mentioned using EE in my previous posts but so far it is not needed and it would force me to use totem in all fights which would slow down my kill speed.
My current skill tree: + Show Spoiler +

nevermind. Doublechecked and it's just minions.

I don't see why they would not apply EE. EE is a debuff to monsters, not a buff to you. Totems are not same as summons.

geez freezing pulse coldwitch is sooo strong. worlds difference between it and my shadow at that stage. but guess evry proper ranged build is just way way stronger and easier for leveling.
|
Whats more important for a cold caster, spell damage or crit? I found a +2cold 90%spell crit scepter, no spelldmg though.
Have cleared up to the bandits waypoints and waterfall caves 2 now, managed to roll 30% chaos gloves with some life and another resist, made it alot more bearable, got below 50% several times but i wasnt being horribly careful either so meh.
trying to find people selling high ilvl rings and amulets is painful, just white ones mind you even

Anyone play HC at 80+ who wants a solid mapping buddy? My main and only goal in this game is to perfect a character over a long period of time in HC, but it's getting extremely monotonous to do that solo.
Bad map rng solo is slowly whittling down my desire to continue. I dislike the early game and don't enjoy leveling alts, so races and playing alts is out of the question for me. I'm halfway to 84 in HC, and running 66-68 maps give negligible experience; I might as well as be farming docks for similar xp gain due to larger and easier mob packs. I just ran a pretty brutal 94% quantity Temple today solo, killed Piety (cheesed her out with poison arrow and bear traps), and got nothing. Back to level 66 maps again to climb that horrible rng map ladder.
No one sells 70+ maps either, and it's extremely difficult to find a trustworthy 80+ group in HC that plays on a similar schedule as I do.

Just died on my lvl 73 ranger HC first dead that was my own fault ( feels pretty bad right now. Died in a 30% increased mob damage map to a surprise attack of 10 rhoas Should have left the map as soon as i saw rhoas but decided to go manmode :D so dumb

lol I got mad over dying like three times to desync... >_>.. so I just do races for fun now.

Just in time to start a new character in the race, nappeee ! That should spice up the first ~20 levels, at least.

That was my first thought but decided to take a little break from the game. When i come back im gonna be focusing on finding the most fun build. Im thinking something like max attackspeed leapslam marauder :D im done with cookiecutter builds.

Wow, worst race ever. Not sure why, but the desyncs were on a whole new level. I had to go back to town thrice in the mud flats because I couldn't engage a pack of ~10 rhoas, when I usually simply stutter-step-cleave them to death. I had only ~160 hp for brutus and 2 portals, so I thought I should unload my traps on him and go buy a coral ring. But he hooked, it dealt damage somehow, so I kept running waiting for the resync or apparent safety. He ground slammed in the middle of nowhere instead and it left me with ~30 hp, then I just died while he was running around. All I did was run around and drink flasks. He's not even supposed to be able to hit you when you around.
If this is how it always is for some people, the game is sadly unplayable. All the nice posts about tips to avoid desyncs don't help when even the resync is out of sync.

Yes, this is how it is for some of us. Not always, but enemies like Brutus, Kole and their map versions are infamous for desync. This is why it is waste of time to play HC in current PoE. And it will be a for a long time because desync has been around for almost a year now and it has been getting worse. And GGG mantra of "There will always be desyncs" or "We can either focus our time on new content or on fixing desync" has been around for a year as well.

I totally disagree with HC being a waste of time to play in current PoE.
I have had next to no major issues with lag and the brief moments I've experienced are easy to see coming and avoid. I'm not saying NOBODY dies to lag/desync issues but I think it's mostly a player scapegoat. The only time I ever noticed gameplay happering issues was during the race events.
All of my PoE friends and I play HC and of all our deaths in HC (I think between the 5 of us, 4-5 characters have died) only 1 was related to lag, and I wasn't even online at the time to confirm his story. Most players die because they fuck up.

I'd have to agree with this. I definitely notice the desync, but it doesn't happen often enough or badly enough to have caused any of my deaths in HC, which were all my own damn fault.
So unless the desync is stronger in Europe than in the U.S., I feel like it's not nearly as bad as people make it out to be, and definitely doesn't invalidate HC. It's definitely something GGG needs to work on because it's annoying as sin when it happens though, especially for melee characters.

The desync was only an issue for me on brutus. This guy, he bugs out so hard
|
I only die to de-synch. I have at least over 30 deaths on my lvl 66 Ranger from level 60. Subjective opinion is subjective.

Softcore deaths aren't really involved in this discussion. The way you play the game in softcore vs hardcore is night and day. There is noway you would have died 30x in hardcore, unless you're going out of your way to play risky/stupid/bad. When you can just run around kill stuff, focus more on DPS than survivability and generally goof around, desync issues might be more of an issue because you aren't playing safe to begin with so it's more punishable. I also doubt you're accurately representing yourself by saying all '30+' deaths are strictly from lag, seems a bit dishonest to me. Regardless the discussion is more about if the issues with lag/desync warrant playing HC or not. There is also a possibility desync/lag could be worse in SC since there are without a doubt more players stressing the SC servers worse than the HC servers are stressed. That last bit is pure speculation, I have no clue how their server infrastructure is designed.
