Hey guys I'm looking into getting this for pc when it comes out, and I'm not too sure what to do controller wise, is it that bad to just buy an xbox 360 controller for pc?

I saw they released some new 360 controllers with better d-pads, anybody know if they came to pc as well? If this is a bad idea does anybody know where to get a cheap fighting stick in Australia? Thanks a lot ^_^

Why would it be bad? I have a Madcatz arcade stick designed for 360, but I don't own any consoles The reason people use specifically made fight pads is so that all 6 buttons are on the front, you'll be fine just using an xbox controller if you get used to your own settings though.

As I have said earlier in the thread I am looking to get a fight stick with AE on pc.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0032ISZL8/ref=s9_simh_gw_p63_d0_i2?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=05Z2CDWRVY9H9C34GGFS&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=467128533&pf_rd_i=468294

looking at getting this, do you think I can get away with it and a WII to PC adaptor?

Problem with a 360 controller is one, your dpad is very small and thus very prone to screwing up your 8 directions. And you only have 4 buttons on top so you have to use the top 4 buttons for certian normal buttons, which can just be confusing.

It's not impossible, its just different. My suggestion is to get a fightpad (maybe 20-30 bucks, just look for them on ebay) that way you can have all 6 buttons and a decent sized d-pad on your controller. Many of the best players use pads (Vangief, Wolfkrone, Inthul, etc.). So its not impossible, but they all use fightpads not just a 360 controller.

All 360 sticks should be able to be used on PC's, same with PS3 sticks but sometimes there are chipset issues.

Good cheap sticks don't exist, you either get a TE which'll be 100-150 dollars, or you get an SE which'll be 50, and then you can mod Sanwa parts into it and it'll cost you 85ish if you're comfortable opening it up and switching parts out.

If thats what tickles your fancy, I say go for it but the TvC stick is an SE, not TE, so once again you'd have to mod the buttons and stick to get real arcade parts, if you're just going for the cheapest route to have a arcade-style stick without authentic arcade buttons, youc an go for the cheap Hori sticks or, an SE stick.

On that same site though, theres this stick

http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-1i-49-en-70-3d9n.html

If you really want to just go for a cheap arcade style stick. I'm not sure the size of those buttons or how easy that stick is to mod but if you NEVER plan on upgrading to authentic parts you might as well go the cheap option lol. (I honestly do suggest, and I think many fighting game players, would suggest just saving up for a TE, its really worth it if you plan on playing regularly.)

Cheap sticks are cheap for a reason. I bought an SE because I wanted to save money, and within 2 weeks one of the buttons worked only sporadically and the stick stopped recognizing one of the directional inputs a majority of the time. I replaced both the buttons and stick with Sanwa parts and it's been fine ever since. Then I just got a TE because it's heavier and has a wider base, fits nicely on my lap.

For the people who are just starting out, just get an SE. If you end up really liking the game, then you'll work on getting a TE anyway (and there are occasional sales where you can get good value).

With the choice of 1 TE or 2 SE, I would definitely go with the 2 SEs so you can play with a friend. You need friendly competition to keep your hunger to improve going - playing strictly online sucks ass.

Meh, I disagree with exalted and agree with Excalibur. If you're just looking to get started play on your keyboard or buy a fightpad (20-30 dollars). The only reason you should buy an SE is if you plan on gauging your interest in fighting games, and if you plan on continuing playing, buying a JLF and OBSF-30 buttons and putting them in, but even then you'll be slightly disappointed since, like Excalibur said, the wider base on a TE makes it fit perfectly on your lap where an SE wouldn't.

I bought an SE played on it for a bit and even without the mechanical problems that Excalibur ran into I felt that a TE would just be a better choice.

Nobody on Shoryuken and probably on here as well, has probably ever bought a TE and said "shit I should have bought an SE and sanwa buttons instead!"

Everyone who buys a TE recognizes its worth it if you plan on playing fighting games for a while, instead of a game you pick up and toss aside forever (if thats the case, just get a pad)

Well the problem is, on the internet TE sticks in the UK are costing around £150-£180.00 ($240 - $290.00) atm.

Also other SE/Hori sticks are costing around £59-69.00 ($100 to $115.00)

I have found cheaper but they arn't in stock... gonna hit the high street to see if I can get lucky

Check on ebay, or shoryuken.com's forums in the trading outlet.

On SF4 (Vanilla, not Super, not AE) on PC, there are like, ~3 games going at a time at most lol, and the connection will be f'ing TERRIBLE as you'll be facing someone across the world more likely than you'll face someone from a neighboring state/province whatever. Nobody plays Vanilla SF4 when Super SF4 has been out for well over a year now, and Arcade Edition has been out for over a month now.

Once AE comes out on PC tomororw, there will probalby be a ton of lobbies, how long that lasts remains to be seen, but the scene should exist.

Also, that link you posted, 85 dollars is way too expensive in my opinion, for cheap parts. It costs ~35 dollars to buy your own buttons and a stick and replace it so I highly suggest not buying that, even a Madcatz SE, or Hori or any crap you buy that isn't a TE, should be cheaper than 85 and will be MUCH easier to modify later (Madcatz is rated very highly in the community due to the ease of modifying parts, everything is snap in, requires zero soldering wires or using power tools, which is a HUGE bonus).

Shoryuken is almost only American sellers, since the largest Fighting game community exists in america. So sometimes its hard to get someone to sell sticks overseas due to shipping costs.

If ebay.co.uk doesn't work sometimes there'll be american sellers that'll ship overseas, might cost a bit more

Also, another suggestion do NOT pay extra for an upgraded sanwa stick of button, it'll almost always cost way too much. A Sanwa JLF (stick) should only cost 12-15 bucks and each button is no more than 3 dollars each. so like I said upgrading an SE to a TE should only cost 30-35 bucks tops if you do it yourself (very easy on a madcatz stick, TONS of tutorials on youtube and stuff).

hmm yeah sounds like getting a madcatz would be worth it... now to try find one in Australia >_< I'm not sure if $85 for a stick is cheap in Australia though, I don't even know how to compare the AUD to the US anymore, it's changed so much since I used to follow it lol

thanks a lot for your help zlasher : )
