I think AUD and USD are pretty much identical nowadays.
If you can't find any on ebay or shoryuken certain international sellers actually ship for much less than you'd think. Other options exist like finding a local communities website and asking around there, australia would look at shadowloo.com while canada should try canadacup.ca I don't really know any for europe but I'm sure you can find something somewhere.
Thats the best I can do for now, I gotta head to bed. My last suggestion is don't necessarily hold out for sales from madcatz, a brand new TE even with a 25% off code is sitll 125+ shipping, and for almost half a year now they've only been doing sales on PS3 sticks because they're low on stock for their 360 sticks, and overstocked on PS3 ones.

I had to buy my stick from some store in canada selling on ebay (it's a hori with sanwa parts). This was also years ago before madcatz existed. Cost me about £200 after VAT and shipping.
I'm sure you can get a much better deal nowadays.

Found one £95.00 second hand ('nearly new') on amazon.co.uk of all places.

Best to troll your local fighting game scene for people that are selling theirs. The sticks aren't being made any more, so chances of finding a new one at a decent price are fairly low. There is also a good chance that Evo will bring a discount or maybe even a new batch of TE's, but I think that the Madcatz store doesn't ship outside the States.
Building your own is not a bad alternative...It's what you had to do (or heavily mod an existing stick that were not built to accommodate that), before the TE's came along with their Sanwa parts. Drilling holes into plexi is a bitch though :p Also, make sure to spam hot glue all over your soldering when you have verified that the connections are solid and operational! Be sure to use wire that is thick enough, so that it doesn't melt! Just ask at one of those radio stores!

EVO will bring discount codes for PS3 sticks and thats probably it, like I said Madcatz hasn't made new sticks in ages.
They probalby won't have a sale for 360 sticks for quite a while, maybe until the SFxT stick comes out or something...
If there is a local fighting game tournament though, going to those and buying a stick off someone isn't a bad idea either, but I'm not sure how often tournaments happen in the UK.

is it worth buying for PC? or can I expect the online community to be dead in several months? (I have no idea how long the original lasted)

For the record, I own 3 TEs because I knew I was going to take SSF4 seriously and there was a sale. However, for a lot of people, such a steep initial investment is daunting. A 2nd fightstick will always be good as a spare, to lend out, 2nd stick, upgradeable, whatever. I would NOT recommend playing on a keyboard or a xbox 360 controller because it's such a different feeling playing on a stick.
Perhaps I am being a stickler about this because the way I got into SF was by visiting a local arcade, getting my ass beat, wanting to be good, and then buying an XBox, 2 (cheaper, Hori) arcade sticks and the game. I didn't want to play on a pad when I would be playing at a machine "for real".
Anyway, ironically enough I really want a Hitbox so I can try that out (I know i wuld be sick on that).

Also, who wants to split a 4pack of PC Arcade Edition? I want two copies and will have two extra. If you want an individual copy or two and can send through Paypal/Stars, we can work something out.

Any tips on helping execution? I've been having problems doing FADC combos and FADC to ultra with various characters (I kind of part way feel like Shortcuts are to blame but I see others do them fine consistently so its not a good excuse unfortunately :[ ) I just feel like I am being a bit more frantic than I should be. When I do feel like I actually do the inputs I get some random EX DP coming out instead of the Ultra I want :[
Edit: I Guess I should mention I ultimately want to pick up Dudley and Sakura is starting to intrigue me more and more after talking to FakeSteve and watching vids/livestreams and just playing her midly myself but mostly dudley. real classy
EDIT 2: I guess I should clarify other than the obvious practice response I am wondering if there are any exercises or recommended strings to try to practice should I stick with a certain character before trying to move on to others for different skills? Where to start how to slowly move up, by all means treat me like a complete and total no nothing scrub because my knowledge of SSF4 is limited. I came from MvC2/KoF2002UM and Garou:MotW scene. I dabbled slightly in 3rd strike nothing real deep though, and all of those games mechanics are far from SSF4's lol

Try breaking up the basic DP FADC Ultra into parts and practising those Or try going through the motions slowly focusing on getting the motions clean and increasing the pace until you can do it in real time.

Qanba Q4 stick sare very very good, if you want to get that one sincie those usually ship internationally better than the madcatz sticks, and i;m slightly similar to exalted, I grew up near SV golfland and would go to the arcade with my brother and when AE came out i played a couple games on there and felt weird on the arcade stick at first but knew that i preferred it and wanted to keep playing on it.
Anyways, keep in mind you can always look up reviews and shit of arcade sticks on youtube (like the qnba q4, its a good stick though). Waht I don't get is why exalted says don't play on a keyboard blah blah, but then goes on about how you want to play on the hitbox lol, its the exact same thing in the end.
I know personally I'd never want to play on a hitbox, if I want that sensation of fast inputs i'll go on my keyboard.
Is the game worth buying on PC? I believe so. Many of the top pros among other people want to get it on AE because playing on a PC is just better, for one streaming is instant and you don't need a capture card and all the extensive hardware just to stream your game, second of all the INTERNET on your pc is better than xbox live
PC's are more reliable than that red ring of death xbox, and the hardware on PC's will make the game run perfectly smooth. I've already talked to many big community guys and players on twitter and a lot of them are planning on trying it out.
will it be dead in a few months? Who knows, what I know is that I'll stil be playing it regardless, so take it for what it is.

But yeah, the button scheme is awkward (triggers are naturally delayed), and the dpad is shit

There are some new factors to consider for this PC release. 1. It won't be the first time a (big) fighter is released for PC in ages this time around. 2. It (hopefully) won't be outdated half a year after its release, and it's released close to the console release. 3. Online is now secure, you can't play with any GFWL key. How much this will hurt the available player pool remains to be seen. 4. While SF4 didn't have high requirements, 2 years have passed and so more people will be able to run it. Most new laptops will be powerful enough.

Couldn't have said it any better myself, I do believe the PC online community will last quite some time for this one, and if not, I'll always run sets with people from TL

Madcatz needs to make KOF13 sticks, right nao

Who are you on XBL exalted? I don't see you in the TL player database. For that matter, I've never seen anyone who's in the database on XBL except for FakeSteve and Trumpet, and those guys I've only played with in some endless and through pretty severe lag =/

The way that they've been talking (Seth Killian, Ono, etc) seems like that is completely not set in stone so hold dat.
