SF4 Guile was good against SF4 Sagat? You sure about that? This was back before Sonic Boom had less charge time even. :O

There's a list of current SBO qualifiers. No, Yun's not on every team. 
A couple lower-tier teams qualified too:
Fuerte Inochi (El Fuerte) & Darubisshusan (Dhalsim)
Amyu (Gen) & Noriyasu (Dhalsim)
In terms of tournament winnings, which of course is an indication of both character strength and character popularity, giving 3 points for 1st place, 2 points for 2nd place, and 1 point for 3rd place:

Cody, Boxer, Ryu, and especially Fei Long are a little lower than I'd expect, while Guile and Blanka are surprisingly up there IMHO. Granted, it looks like 10 of the Guile points are from Dieminion.
edit: though do note that there are a lot of team tournaments represented so some characters could be riding on coattails.

To be fair, MvC3 is relatively balanced in terms of how many characters are viable in the game, much moreso than in MvC2. Wesker, Taskmaster, Ammy, Tron, Akuma, Wolvie, Phoenix, Sentinel, Magneto, Dante, Dormammu, She Hulk.

Well, Poongko is a Seth specialist, and by far the best in the world, second is like Online Tony and thats about it, nobody really plays Seth.

As a total fighting game noob this thread has provided me with some useful insight. So thank you folks I guess. I have already pre-purchased AE and cannot wait til it comes out.
I thought I would play Guile, because I quite like remy in ssf3:3s (only started playing it recently against cpu) and I read he is quite similar to Guile. But today I have seen a Guile mirror video. I'm forever scarred.
PS: Is there some site listing good VoDs?

But is Tony's seth > Hiropon's?

Hiropon is amazing, but I don't know that I've seen actual tournament footage of him.
I'm actually amazed poongko did so well. He always seemed like a guy that could get tons of style points but would never succeed in a tournament setting

Poongko's 75 hit akuma combo never fails to amuse me (though it's not practical at all)

It's pretty hard to compare Tony to Japanese players, I think Kindevu is actually the highest BP rated Seth in Japan since he just plays a lot of characters, but I'd just put them all one tier behind Poongko lol, they're all solid though.

He does have bad HP but it's offset by the superior Brazilian blood that runs through his veins.
