I'd recommend watching the Mago vs Filipino Champ match. The match is a clinic for anyone interested in learning about zoning and spacing in high level play
lol the reactions are hilarious. i've always thought of mago as a cool/chill dude to get party with. good shit on the yoga sniper high block into dbl f.rh punish. gonna go through all of these now

Whether you love Starcraft or Street Fighter, or both, this weekend has been amazing. There was something for everyone and then some. It will benefit you to not sully your memories of such a good weekend with silly unnecessary arguments. Just appreciate that between MLG, GSL, and EVO, we were treated to something really special this weekend.
Enjoy it, don't ruin it for yourselves.
Couldn't of said it better myself. We are all gamers, share the hype.

All weekend the scenes have been bleeding over. SC2 shoutouts at EVO, Gretorp with his NASL t-shirt at EVO, fighting game shoutouts from MLG, Artosis and Ski's exchanges on twitter, this thread right here at the heart of our Starcraft community, all the folks happily split-screening 4 streams on big screen TVs.
There's a lot of "let's grow e-sports," and "let's globalize e-sports," but this weekend we did something better. We went beyond bringing our passions to new audiences, we went beyond bringing nationalities together - though we did do all of that. This weekend, we tore barriers down and brought two very different communities together united under the banner of amazing pro gaming, and I'm damn proud to be apart of that.
Growing e-sports means more than bringing in new viewers, more than reaching a global audience, it's joining communities too. And we've done that. This weekend was not only amazing, exciting, dramatic, every positive adjective in the book, but it was a huge success.
Let's be civil and appreciate that.
lul that's my older brother... he is 3.5 years older than me. everyone says we're twins. I went to mlg for saturday and sunday so it couldn't have been me!@

if i'm not mistaken he won the vf5 tournament at wcg in 2009?
Yeah he's a top VF player in Japan, one of the best from what I'm aware, and then he's the #2 ranked Fei Long (Grand Master) in Japan behind Mago with probably top 10 in BP total

It's never disclosed but i think they either do 70/20/10 of the pot, or 60/30/10. I don't understand why they do that for the biggest tournament of the year though, but then agian EVO isn't about the money for the tournament, it's about saying you're the best.
Although surely its over 10k for first place, probably closer to 20k.
publicly it's 70/20/10, but for main stage games Mr. Wizard (SRK boss and one of EVO's organizers) was quoted as saying payout is for top 8.
I don't know how well they do with sponsorships, but when your biggest sponsor is Mad Catz, and when your stream commercials in between games was Charmin fabric softener in Spanish, they probably could do a lot better.
just want to share my feelings to some fighting game fans. just recently started playing alot of fighting games. ive always enjoyed them with friends, until i got blown up at mvc3 online (5-25) mk9 got me back into it though. heard about evo from live on three with dj wheat, started to check out shoryuken and testyourmight.
I somehow wiggled my way out of work this entire weekend, with full intentions of watching mlg all weekend, and to check out evo when there were no games. Pretty much from mk9 top 32 and then sfae top 32 on friday i was hooked, just so incredible to watch these games played at such a high level. MvC was awesome saturday as well.
Then sunday came along, i had to convince someone to switch and take my shift at work to see it. I convinced 4 of my friends to come over and watch all the finals, they had never watched any esports before. Beer helped alot to get them to come over haha.
The blazeblue was kinda cool, i had never seen that game before but it looks fun. Tekken though, man that was boring. Bob vs BoB vs law vs Bob, got so boring i just dont get the tekken gameplay.
Mortal Kombat took the stage and as soon as it did, i just felt the energy in the place shift. People were chanting "Mortal Kombat" others answering "sucks" Which got me wondering what the response was going to be to it, whether mk would have a good showing maybe get more people into it competitively, and from what i saw it looked great, there was alot of excitement, it looked fast and polished too me. My friends in I stopped making fun of the casters and how boring it was, and started to really get into the games. MK was good and it started the real tournament for me well.
MvC3 was crazy, the tron comeback ill never forget, I had told my buddy that it was over, he said "hes got a chance he has tron still" to which the rest of us just laughed at the absurdity that someone was gonna come back with tron ha. We all left our feet and screamed when he landed that special on phoenix. It was an awesome moment for sure.
then street fighter started. I had told my friends that this is where it was at. That the street fighter tournament was going to be sick. It did not disappoint, all of us were screaming at latiff vs daigo. Jumping up and drinking when latiff won a round. It was incredible experience being able to invite friends over who have never been into esports and get that kind of excitement from it. I had tried that with sc2 numerous times, and its just not possible for people to get into sc2 with no experience with it.
I just want to let everyone know that Evo and the fighting game community has a new member after this weekend. Ive never got so into a video game tournament as this one, and im proud to tell people that i spent my entire weekend, getting off work to watch a fighting game tournament.
The F.Champ vs Mago game was probably the best ive ever seen, its so clutch and the fact that F.champ is happy even when he looses rounds shows how fucking amazing that match is in skill

Tron has a ton of comeback potential she just has to be able to get in or get a hit, thing was it was against a dark phoenix which is why it was nuts.. Also the fact that PR Rog hail mary'd a level 3 against a newly minted darkphoenix was kinda stupid. Reason I say that Jwong had the comeback of the tournament was because PR Rog's level 3 was a retarded 50/50 (to be honest, it was 33% not even 50%) that relied on viscant either 1) diving down 2) teleport down 3) throwing fireball. PR Rog got lucky that he did dive down it wasn't on reaction it was random.

i hope your not trying to downplay that shit. you must have never played tron vs dark phoenix b4. it's damn near impossible to get anything on phoenix considering her mobility is butt, and j.H/j.S gets beat cleanly by anything phoenix has on the ground. basically lvl 3 was the only thing he had and it worked. thsi was the moment of evo
